Campgrounds near Linnell Camp
Linnell Camp is a small census-designated place in Tulare County, California, in the agricultural San Joaquin Valley about twenty miles east of Visalia. It sits at a low valley elevation, which puts RV travelers on flat terrain with easy access to Highway 198 and the western approach to the southern Sierra Nevada.
The area works well as a low-elevation base for trips into Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks. The Highway 198 corridor leads to the Ash Mountain entrance of Sequoia National Park and on toward Three Rivers and the Kaweah River. Closer to Linnell Camp itself, private RV options include Country Manor Mobile Home Community and Royal Palms for longer stays. For trip-focused stays, Visalia / Sequoia National Park KOA Journey sits on the valley floor, while Lemon Cove Village RV Park and Sequoia Campground and Lodge are positioned closer to the park entrance in the Kaweah River foothills. Together these give RV renters a mix of valley convenience and foothills proximity to the parks.
Things to do near Linnell Camp
Most trips from this area are built around Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks. The General Sherman Tree, the world's largest tree in volume, sits in the Giant Forest grove, and the Generals Highway connects the major sequoia groves and viewpoints. Vehicles longer than 22 feet are not advised between Potwisha Campground and the Giant Forest Museum, and drivers of larger rigs heading to Lodgepole are advised to enter via the Highway 180 entrance instead, which matters for trip planning with bigger RVs.
Closer to the foothills, Lake Kaweah offers boating, fishing, and swimming, and activities along the Kaweah River include hiking, white water rafting, and trout fishing. In the valley, downtown Visalia and nearby Exeter add restaurants, shops, and family-friendly afternoons close to camp.

57° / 39°F 55 mmCool and wettest season; dense tule fog on valley roads
Linnell Camp and the surrounding valley have a warm Mediterranean climate. Visalia features a warm Mediterranean climate with mild winters and hot summers, with average temperatures ranging from a low near 37°F in December to a high near 95°F in July, and total precipitation around ten inches per year, mostly falling as rain during the wetter winter months. Winter brings tule fog that can drop valley visibility quickly on Highway 99 and Highway 198, so drivers towing or in larger rigs should plan with caution on foggy mornings.
In the mountains, the seasonal calendar is very different. Potwisha in the foothills and Azalea in Grant Grove are the only two campgrounds open year-round, with higher-elevation campgrounds opening as snow clears. Summer demand is extremely high, and popular campgrounds like Lodgepole fill within minutes of reservations opening. Spring and fall are quieter on the valley side and along the Kaweah, with wildflowers in spring and milder driving temperatures in fall. Tire chains may be required on Generals Highway during winter storms.

Its was our first time camping and we are very lucky we found this one. Alex is a great host and explained everything before we departed. We were a little stressed as it was our first time camping in King's Canyon, but Alex made us feel comfortable with the trailer and walked us through everything. The trailer is super neat and clean we didn't have to do anything to set up. We put our stuff in it and it was ready to go which made our trip a lot easier. Alex is very friendly and was available throughout our whole trip in case we had questions and needed help. We will definitely be coming back to Alex for all our camping adventures. Thank you it was a great experience!

We had a great week in the Sequoias using Alex’s trailer. It was extremely clean and had great supplies available. The kids loved their bunkbeds plus the option to sleep on the fold-down dinette area. Communication with Alex was great - he provided lots of helpful details and helped us resolve one minor issue right away. Definitely recommend!

How to book campsites in the area
National park sites are booked through a federal system. All Sequoia and Kings Canyon campgrounds require advance reservations during peak season, with booking windows opening one month in advance on Recreation.gov, with reservations opening on the 15th of each month at 7:00 AM Pacific Time. For example, June reservations open on May 15th. Set a calendar reminder and have a Recreation.gov account ready in advance for popular weekends.
Cold Springs in Mineral King is first-come, first-served throughout summer, and Potwisha and Azalea typically switch to first-come, first-served during the off-season winter months. Private parks near Linnell Camp, including Visalia / Sequoia National Park KOA Journey and Lemon Cove Village RV Park, take direct online reservations through their own websites and standard aggregator platforms, and generally book up earliest for summer weekends and spring break.
What to expect on the ground
Expect a clear split between valley and mountain experience. The Linnell Camp area is flat farm country with citrus groves and warm, dry summers, while the road east climbs quickly into oak foothills and then into sequoia and conifer forest. Cell coverage is generally reliable in the valley and around Three Rivers but drops off inside the parks.
Private parks near the park entrance are family-oriented, offering full and partial hookup RV sites, pull-throughs, tent areas, and amenities such as pools, laundry, and dog runs. Inside the parks, food storage is strictly enforced because of black bears, and developed campgrounds such as Lodgepole have paved roads, flush toilets, drinking water, and picnic tables, fire rings, and bear food storage boxes at each site. A free dump station, open year-round, is located across the highway from Potwisha Campground, which is useful for foothills loops.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Linnell Camp, CA
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Linnell Camp, Visalia?
RV rental in Visalia near Linnell Camp is one of the more affordable ways to explore California's Central Valley and the Sierra foothills. Travel trailers typically run about $95 to $175 per night, while Class C motorhomes range from about $185 to $295 per night, depending on age, size, and season. To score a cheap RV rental in Visalia, aim for shoulder months (March, April, October), book a midweek pickup, and filter for hosts offering unlimited mileage so a side trip to Sequoia National Park doesn't add up. Pro tip: trailers are often the best value if you already have a truck to tow, but a drive-and-go Class C makes a stress-free first-time Visalia RV trip.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Visalia%2C%20CaliforniaWhat kind of driver's license do I need to rent an RV near Linnell Camp?
Good news: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent and drive almost every RV available near Visalia. Under California law, a standard Class C license covers any housecar (motorhome) up to 40 feet long, plus most travel trailers under 10,000 lbs Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR). That means the Class B campervans, Class C motorhomes, and most trailers and fifth wheels listed on RVezy are fair game. Visiting from abroad? Pair your home license with an International Driving Permit (IDP) and you're set. RVezy approved drivers are generally required to be at least 25 years old, and ID verification is handled through the platform, so checkout is quick and easy.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsIs RV rental insurance and roadside assistance included?
Yes, every RV rental booked through RVezy automatically includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can hit Highway 99 or Highway 198 toward Sequoia with real peace of mind. The protection plan covers physical damage to the RV during your trip, and you choose your coverage level during checkout (hosts don't pick it for you). While it isn't traditional auto insurance, it provides meaningful financial protection so a minor mishap on a Tulare County backroad doesn't derail your vacation. Pro tip: review the coverage options on the checkout page and pick the level that matches how adventurous your Sierra Nevada route will be.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat happens if I need to cancel my Visalia RV rental?
Booking is low-risk: RVezy sets a standardized cancellation policy on every reservation (hosts don't set their own), and it includes a grace period after booking where you can cancel and get your money back. After that, the refund amount depends on how far out from your trip start date you cancel, with more flexibility the further in advance you cancel. If a host needs to cancel, RVezy helps you secure a refund or credit so your trip can still happen. Pro tip: once you've locked in your RV rental in Visalia dates, start reserving Sequoia National Park campsites right away through Recreation.gov, since those fill faster than RVs do.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a Linnell Camp RV trip?
Absolutely, dogs are welcome on plenty of rigs here. Use the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy to instantly see pet-friendly RV rental Linnell Camp options, then message the host to share your pup's size and breed. Once you've got the RV, your four-legged co-pilot has great local options: Kaweah Oaks Preserve (about 7 miles east of Visalia) allows leashed dogs on its oak-shaded trails, and most foothills campgrounds along Highway 198 are dog-friendly. Heads up: pets are not allowed on most trails inside Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks, so plan dog-friendly hikes in the surrounding Sequoia National Forest instead. Pro tip: pack a collapsible water bowl, Central Valley summers get hot fast.
nps.gov/seki/planyourvisit/pets.htmCan the RV be delivered to me near Linnell Camp?
Yes, RV delivery in the Visalia area is a popular option, especially for first-timers and travelers flying into Visalia Municipal Airport or Fresno Yosemite International. Many RVezy hosts will drop the motorhome or trailer at your campground, vacation rental, or driveway, level it, hook up power and water, and walk you through every system before they leave. That's a huge win if you'd rather skip towing or driving a big rig through the Central Valley. Use the Delivery filter on the search page to see hosts who offer it, then message them with your destination (Lemon Cove Village, Sequoia RV Ranch, etc.) for a delivery quote. Pro tip: delivery often pays for itself once you factor in fuel for a Sierra round trip.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Visalia%2C%20CaliforniaHow far can I travel from Linnell Camp on an RV trip?
You can roam as far as your itinerary allows, and Linnell Camp sits in a remarkable launch pad in the San Joaquin Valley. Sequoia National Park's Ash Mountain entrance is about 36 miles east via Highway 198, Kings Canyon's Grant Grove is roughly 60 miles northeast, Yosemite Valley is about 175 miles north, Pismo Beach on the Pacific Coast is around 175 miles west, and Los Angeles is about 200 miles south. Many hosts offer RV rental with unlimited mileage, which is the smart pick for a multi-park Sierra loop. Pro tip: ask the host about their daily mileage cap and any per-mile overage rate before booking your RV road trip from Linnell Camp.
nps.gov/seki/planyourvisit/directions.htmWhere are the best campgrounds near Linnell Camp?
You have fantastic options within an easy drive. Potwisha Campground inside Sequoia National Park (about 40 miles east on Highway 198) is open year-round, sits along the Kaweah River, and welcomes RVs with reservations through Recreation.gov. Lodgepole Campground, higher up at 6,700 feet near the General Sherman Tree, fits RVs up to 40 feet and is tentatively open mid-June through December. Lemon Cove Village RV Park (19 miles east, full hookups, pet-friendly) and Sequoia RV Ranch in Three Rivers (riverside sites, open year-round) are excellent base camps just outside the park. Visalia/Sequoia National Park KOA Journey is a family-friendly option closer to town. Pro tip: book park sites six months in advance the day the calendar opens.
recreation.gov/camping/campgrounds/249979When is the best time of year for an RV trip from Linnell Camp?
Spring and fall are the sweet spot for RV camping Linnell Camp travelers love. From mid-March through May, valley temperatures sit comfortably in the 65 to 80 degrees Fahrenheit range, wildflowers bloom across the foothills, and Sequoia's lower elevations are gorgeous. September through early November brings crisp 70 degree days, smaller crowds, and golden light in the giant sequoia groves. Summers (June to August) regularly top 95 to 105 degrees Fahrenheit in the valley, so plan early starts and head uphill where it's 20 to 30 degrees cooler. Winter is mild down low but snowy in the park (chains may be required on the Generals Highway). Pro tip: book a late-April rental and you'll catch peak waterfalls at Sequoia.
weather.gov/hnx/I've never rented an RV before. Will I be okay?
You'll do great, first time renting an RV is exactly who RVezy is built for. Every host gives you a hands-on orientation at pickup (or at delivery), walking you through driving, leveling, hookups, the fridge, the slide-outs, the tanks, and the awning before they hand over the keys. You can message your host anytime during the trip with questions, and 24/7 roadside assistance is one tap away. For your first motorhome rental in Linnell Camp, pick a Class C under 28 feet or a smaller travel trailer, both are easy to maneuver on Highway 99 and Highway 198. Pro tip: do a short practice loop in a quiet area like the Tulare County Fairgrounds parking lot before heading to the mountains.
nps.gov/seki/planyourvisit/driving.htmWhat if something breaks down during my trip?
Take a breath, you're covered. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance, so a flat tire on Highway 198, a dead battery at Potwisha, or a tow out of a tight foothills turnaround is one phone call away. Your host is also a direct resource for anything quirky about their RV (the propane switch, the inverter, the awning lock), and they're usually quick to respond by message. RVezy's customer support team is available before, during, and after your trip too. Pro tip: snap a photo of the inside of any cabinets with manuals during your walkthrough, it's a lifesaver when you're parked at Lodgepole with limited cell service.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take the RV across state lines or into Mexico from Linnell Camp?
Cross-state travel is wide open: from the Visalia area you can comfortably road-trip into Nevada (Las Vegas is about 350 miles southeast), Oregon, or Arizona's Grand Canyon. Most RVezy hosts allow interstate travel by default, but it's smart to confirm with the host through the message thread before booking, especially if you're planning a long route. One firm rule: travel into Mexico is not permitted on any RVezy rental because protection coverage does not extend across the border. Pro tip: a classic loop is Sequoia to Death Valley to Las Vegas and back through Mojave, all coverable on a 7 to 10 day rental.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityHow much will fuel cost for an RV trip near Linnell Camp?
Plan for one of the higher fuel costs in the country, California gas in Tulare County typically runs $4.50 to $5.50 per gallon, and diesel is similar. A Class C motorhome averages 8 to 10 miles per gallon (mpg), a Class B campervan can hit 18 to 22 mpg, and a truck towing a travel trailer usually gets 10 to 13 mpg. For a typical 400-mile loop from Linnell Camp through Sequoia and back, budget roughly $180 to $260 in fuel for a Class C. Pro tip: top off at the Costco or Sam's Club in Visalia before heading east, prices climb noticeably in Three Rivers and disappear entirely once you enter the national parks.
energy.ca.gov/data-reports/energy-almanac/transportation-energy/californias-gasoline-pricesHow far in advance should I book a campground?
For the popular spots, book the moment your dates are set. Campgrounds inside Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks (Potwisha, Lodgepole, Azalea, Sunset, Sheep Creek) are reservation-only through Recreation.gov and open up exactly six months in advance, often filling within minutes for summer weekends. Private parks like Lemon Cove Village, Sequoia RV Ranch, and Visalia/Sequoia KOA Journey usually have more availability 1 to 2 months out, especially midweek. For a spring or fall RV trip Linnell Camp travelers can sometimes book 2 to 3 weeks ahead. Pro tip: set a Recreation.gov alert for your target dates and have your credit card ready at 7 a.m. Pacific the day reservations open.
recreation.gov/camping/gateways/2931What are the driving conditions like around Linnell Camp?
Driving here is friendlier than most California RV destinations. Around Linnell Camp itself, you're on flat ag-country roads at 358 feet elevation, perfect for getting comfortable with your rig. Highway 99 and Highway 198 are wide, straight, and easy for any size RV. The catch is the climb to Sequoia: vehicles longer than 22 feet are advised to enter via Highway 180 from Fresno rather than the tight switchbacks on Highway 198 above Hospital Rock, and the Generals Highway between the parks often closes in winter with chains required when open. Watch for slow farm equipment on county roads in spring and fall. Pro tip: avoid driving Highway 99 between 4 and 6 p.m. on weekdays, Fresno-bound traffic gets thick.
quickmap.dot.ca.gov/What amenities will I find at campgrounds near Linnell Camp?
You'll find a great mix. Private RV parks like Visalia/Sequoia KOA Journey, Lemon Cove Village, and Sequoia RV Ranch offer full hookups (water, 30/50 amp electric, sewer), Wi-Fi, laundry, pools, and pet areas. National park campgrounds (Potwisha, Lodgepole, Azalea) have flush toilets, drinking water, picnic tables, fire rings, and bear-proof food lockers, but no hookups, and a free dump station sits across from Potwisha and at Lodgepole seasonally. For water fill-ups and dumping on the way back, Sun and Fun RV Park in Tulare and the Tulare County Fairgrounds both have dump access. Pro tip: top off freshwater in the valley before climbing into Sequoia, mountain campground spigots can be seasonal.
nps.gov/seki/planyourvisit/campgrounds.htmWhat's actually inside the RVs I can rent near Linnell Camp?
More than you'd expect. Most RVs available near Visalia come fully equipped to live in: beds for 2 to 8 (queen or king in many Class A and Class C models, plus convertible dinettes and bunks), a full kitchen with stove, oven, microwave, fridge/freezer, and cookware, a bathroom with shower and toilet, heating and air conditioning (a must for hot Tulare County summers), seatbelts for travel passengers, and usually a TV. Many rigs include a generator for boondocking and solar panels for off-grid stays at Sequoia's no-hookup campgrounds. Wi-Fi varies, some hosts provide a hotspot for an add-on fee. Pro tip: filter by the Sleeps count that matches your group, and message the host to confirm seatbelt count if you're traveling with kids.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Visalia%2C%20CaliforniaWhat add-ons and options should I know about when booking?
Hosts in the Visalia area offer some genuinely useful extras. Common add-ons include linen and kitchen kits ($30 to $75), portable BBQs, outdoor chairs and tables, generator use ($3 to $5 per hour), bike racks, and child car seats. Many hosts offer delivery to Sequoia gateway towns like Three Rivers, Lemon Cove, or Visalia for a per-mile fee. Mileage policies vary, some include 100 to 150 free miles per night, others offer RV rental with unlimited mileage (worth it for a Sequoia and Yosemite combo). Pickup and dropoff windows are usually 1 p.m. and 11 a.m. Pro tip: bundle the linens-and-kitchen kit on your first trip so you can roll in and start cooking dinner at Potwisha without a Visalia Walmart run.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Visalia%2C%20CaliforniaHow does the security deposit and payment work?
Payment is simple and secure: you pay through the RVezy platform with a credit or debit card at booking, never directly to the host, which keeps everything traceable and protected. A refundable security deposit is held separately from your booking payment before your trip starts and released after the host confirms the RV came back in the same shape it left. Deposit amounts vary by RV type and value. To avoid issues, do a thorough walkaround with the host at pickup, take photos of any existing scratches or interior wear, and repeat the same photo set at drop-off. Pro tip: dump the tanks and refill the fuel before returning your Visalia campervan rental, those are the two most common deposit deductions.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksHow do I handle the Central Valley heat in an RV?
You'll be comfortable with a little planning. Summer highs in Tulare County regularly hit 95 to 105 degrees Fahrenheit from June through early September, so confirm with your host that the roof air conditioner and dash AC are both in good shape, every RV listed in this area has AC, and most have two units on larger rigs. Drive in the cool morning hours, park in shade when possible, and use reflective window covers (many hosts include them). Best move: gain elevation. Lodgepole Campground sits at 6,700 feet where summer highs are a pleasant 75 to 80 degrees. Pro tip: fill a couple of jugs of water at Visalia before climbing into Sequoia and keep everyone hydrated, the dry heat sneaks up on you.
