Reservations are made directly through the lake's reservation line or website, not through ReserveCalifornia or Recreation.gov. The toll-free reservation number is (866) 763-5121. Self-contained RVs are permitted at North Shore, while full RV hookups are concentrated at the South Shore, including the Miners Camps RV Park area. Flag City RV Resort takes reservations directly through its own office and website, and pull-through full-hookup sites accommodate large rigs and 50-amp service. For summer weekends and holidays, book as far ahead as possible; off-peak weeknights typically have last-minute availability.

What to expect

Roads into the Camanche shoreline campgrounds are paved but narrow in spots, with oak-studded hillsides and open meadow sites; some loops have limited shade, so awnings and shade screens are useful.
