RV camping near Lucas Valley-Marinwood
Lucas Valley-Marinwood sits in central Marin County, off Highway 101 between San Rafael and Novato. It puts RV travelers within a short drive of the redwoods of Samuel P. Taylor State Park, the open ridges of Mount Tamalpais, and the coastal trails and beaches of Point Reyes National Seashore. San Francisco and the Golden Gate Bridge are roughly 20 miles south.
The closest full-service RV options sit along the 101 corridor and on the coast. Novato RV Park and Marin RV Park serve travelers who want a paved base near groceries, fuel, and the freeway. Marin Park and Golden Gate Trailer Park add more long-term oriented sites in the same corridor. For a coastal base, Olema Campground sits next to Point Reyes National Seashore with full hookup options. State park campgrounds in the area, including Samuel P. Taylor, offer redwood-shaded sites but cap vehicle lengths, so RV renters should confirm site dimensions before booking.
Things to do near Lucas Valley-Marinwood
Day trips fan out in every direction. West of town, Samuel P. Taylor State Park has shaded hikes among redwoods along Lagunitas Creek and the paved Cross Marin Trail for bikes and strollers. Mount Tamalpais State Park offers ridge hikes with views of the Farallon Islands, the Marin hills, San Francisco Bay, and Mount Diablo. Point Reyes National Seashore adds Limantour Beach, the lighthouse, and elk and elephant seal viewing. China Camp State Park, on San Pablo Bay, has shoreline trails and a historic village. South of the Golden Gate, families can pair camping with the Exploratorium, Crissy Field, and the cable cars in San Francisco.

Marin runs on a Mediterranean climate. Summers are long, dry, and mostly clear, while winters are short, cool, and wet. The wet season concentrates between November and March, with December and January typically the rainiest months and the dry stretch from June through September seeing very little rain. Coastal fog is common in late spring and early summer, especially near Point Reyes and along the Mount Tamalpais ridgeline, and can sit in for days before burning off by midday.
Late summer and early fall are usually the warmest stretch, with September often the hottest month. Wildfire risk is highest from late summer into fall, when red flag warnings and Pacific Gas and Electric public safety power shutoffs can occur. Winter storms can bring road closures on Sir Francis Drake Boulevard and Highway 1, and seasonal creek-access closures at Samuel P. Taylor protect spawning coho salmon and steelhead from late fall into spring.

Angel 😇 Life Saver ⛑️ Great Communication 📲📞 Informative 📚 PUNCTUAL ⏳️ Just a few words to describe this wonderful Host. When my prior host backed out and canceled on me the day of (There was no communication up til 48hrs before trip, and stopped again the morning of. I reached out for clarification and location, no response! Moments later Rveezy tells me the host is no longer comfortable with accommodating us) Evgeniy not only responed within 5min of me reachout out, but had us out and on the road to enjoy out trip within an hour. The vehicle is perfect, clean and easy to function. We had never driven or worked an RV before but his quick rundown and eargeness to answer any questions helped put out minds at ease. He is so kind, professonal, and absolutely Amazing 🤩. We will definitely rent from him again despite our extra charges for not having time to thoroughly clean out and fill up; but that was a very small price to pay for what we would have missed if he hadn't come to help us out of a pickle. They only gave the options of 5 stars so I'll leave the rest here : ✨️⭐️🌟⭐️✨️⭐️🌟✨️⭐️🌟⭐️✨️⭐️🌟✨️⭐️🌟⭐️✨️🌟⭐️✨️🌟⭐️✨️🌟✨️⭐️🌟✨️⭐️🌟⭐️✨️🌟⭐️✨️🌟⭐️✨️🌟⭐️✨️

How to book campgrounds in the area
Reservation systems split by operator. California State Parks, including Samuel P. Taylor and Mount Tamalpais, book through ReserveCalifornia on a rolling six-month window that opens daily at 8 a.m. Pacific, with a separate lottery-style drawing for high-demand sites such as the Steep Ravine cabins that accepts applications up to eight months ahead. Point Reyes National Seashore has no car or RV camping: its hike-in and boat-in sites book through Recreation.gov and can be reserved up to three months in advance. Private parks along the 101 corridor, including Novato RV Park, Marin RV Park, Marin Park, and Golden Gate Trailer Park, take direct reservations through their own websites or by phone. Olema Campground also books direct.
What to expect on the ground
Sites near Lucas Valley-Marinwood divide into two styles. Highway 101 RV parks are paved, full-hookup, and close to grocery and fuel stops, with tighter spacing and freeway noise in exchange for easy access. Coast and redwood campgrounds sit on gravel or dirt, with picnic tables, fire rings, and often vault or flush toilets but limited or no hookups. Cell coverage drops quickly west of the 101, and dead zones are common on Mount Tamalpais and along the Point Reyes coast. Drinking water and dump stations are not universal, so top off before heading west. Bears are not a concern, but raccoons and ravens are persistent. Pets are restricted on most national seashore trails and beaches but allowed at private campgrounds and many state park sites.
