Campgrounds and RV parks near Madison, CA

Lake Berryessa is the main recreation draw within an hour of Madison. The lake has more than 165 miles of shoreline and supports boating, waterskiing, wakeboarding, swimming, and fishing for both warm and cold water species. Pleasure Cove Marina rents houseboats, ski boats, deck boats, fishing boats, and pontoons, and boat launches are spread around the lake. On land, Cache Creek and Putah Creek offer paddling and fishing west of town. The Capay Valley, just up Highway 16, has farm stands, olive mills, and seasonal u-pick orchards. Day trips reach downtown Davis, Old Sacramento, and the wineries of the Capay Valley and Napa County. Families with younger kids tend to combine a lake day at Berryessa with a flat-water afternoon in one of the marina coves.

The Madison area follows an inland California Mediterranean pattern: hot, dry summers and cool, wet winters. Summer daytime highs commonly reach the low to mid 30s Celsius, and Lake Berryessa water temperatures climb to around 75 degrees Fahrenheit in summer, which drives peak demand at the lakeside campgrounds. At Pleasure Cove, peak season runs April through October with a two-night minimum on weekends and three nights on holiday weekends, so weekend sites book out well in advance. Spring and fall are the most comfortable windows for RV travel. Daytime temperatures sit in the high teens to high twenties Celsius, hills are green in spring and golden in fall, and crowds thin sharply outside school breaks. Wildfire season runs roughly late summer into fall across interior Northern California, and Lake Berryessa campgrounds enforce seasonal fire restrictions. Pleasure Cove prohibits campfires during the summer burn ban and recommends propane grills only. Winter brings most of the annual rainfall and quiet, lower-occupancy stays.

Private parks along the Interstate 505 corridor are functional rather than resort-style: level pads, full or partial hookups, laundry, and basic restrooms. Midway RV Park offers full hookups, 30 and 50 amp service, mostly pull-through sites, a seasonal pool, and shaded sites under eucalyptus trees. Cell coverage along the I-505 and Highway 16 corridor is generally reliable. At the lake, conditions are more rustic. Spanish Flat Campground has 55 campsites for tents, RVs, and trailers with no hookups, plus drinking water, restrooms, and a dump station. Pleasure Cove has 140 closely spaced campsites including 14 full hookup and 11 partial hookup RV sites, with electric and water on partial sites and a separate dump station for emptying tanks. Each campsite is limited to two vehicles and a maximum of eight people. Boaters should expect mussel inspection requirements before launching.
