Campgrounds near Mill Valley
Mill Valley sits at the base of Mount Tamalpais in southern Marin County, about 14 miles north of San Francisco across the Golden Gate Bridge. The town is a practical RV base for trips that combine Bay Area sightseeing with redwood and coastal camping. Full-hookup RV options cluster along the Highway 101 corridor on both sides of Mill Valley. Golden Gate Trailer Park and Marin Park are the closest private options, with Marin RV Park a short drive north on the same corridor. Further north, Novato RV Park serves travelers heading toward Sonoma and Napa, while Candlestick RV Park sits across the bridge in San Francisco for visitors who want city access without driving in daily. Public camping in the immediate area is concentrated inside Mount Tamalpais State Park and Golden Gate National Recreation Area, where most sites are tent-only or walk-in and not suited to larger rigs.
Things to do near Mill Valley
Muir Woods National Monument, about 15 minutes from downtown, protects old-growth coast redwoods and requires a timed parking or shuttle reservation. Mount Tamalpais State Park covers redwood groves and oak woodlands with summit views over the Bay Area. Stinson Beach and Muir Beach sit on the coast within a half hour, and the Marin Headlands offer Golden Gate Bridge viewpoints, Point Bonita Lighthouse, and the former Nike Missile Site. Downtown Mill Valley has a walkable core with cafes and the Dipsea Trail trailhead. Day trips reach Point Reyes National Seashore to the north, the wineries of Sonoma and Napa, and San Francisco landmarks via the Sausalito ferry or a direct drive over the bridge.

Marin County has a Mediterranean climate with a sharp wet and dry split. The dry season runs roughly May through September, and the wet season runs November through March, with the wettest stretch usually December through February. Summer days are mild rather than hot, and coastal fog often pushes inland through Mill Valley in the mornings and evenings, especially in June and July. September and October are typically the warmest, clearest months and a strong choice for RV travel. Winter trips are workable for full-hookup RV parks, but coastal state park sites can be muddy and exposed, and atmospheric river storms can close park roads on Mount Tamalpais. Wildfire season generally peaks late summer into fall, when red flag warnings may trigger fire restrictions or short-notice closures in the surrounding parks. Check Cal Fire and park alerts before booking late-summer trips into the hills.

Angel 😇 Life Saver ⛑️ Great Communication 📲📞 Informative 📚 PUNCTUAL ⏳️ Just a few words to describe this wonderful Host. When my prior host backed out and canceled on me the day of (There was no communication up til 48hrs before trip, and stopped again the morning of. I reached out for clarification and location, no response! Moments later Rveezy tells me the host is no longer comfortable with accommodating us) Evgeniy not only responed within 5min of me reachout out, but had us out and on the road to enjoy out trip within an hour. The vehicle is perfect, clean and easy to function. We had never driven or worked an RV before but his quick rundown and eargeness to answer any questions helped put out minds at ease. He is so kind, professonal, and absolutely Amazing 🤩. We will definitely rent from him again despite our extra charges for not having time to thoroughly clean out and fill up; but that was a very small price to pay for what we would have missed if he hadn't come to help us out of a pickle. They only gave the options of 5 stars so I'll leave the rest here : ✨️⭐️🌟⭐️✨️⭐️🌟✨️⭐️🌟⭐️✨️⭐️🌟✨️⭐️🌟⭐️✨️🌟⭐️✨️🌟⭐️✨️🌟✨️⭐️🌟✨️⭐️🌟⭐️✨️🌟⭐️✨️🌟⭐️✨️🌟⭐️✨️

How to book Mill Valley campgrounds
Private RV parks in the Mill Valley area, including Golden Gate Trailer Park, Marin Park, Marin RV Park, Novato RV Park, and Candlestick RV Park, are booked directly with each property by phone or through their websites. Summer weekends, holiday periods, and major San Francisco events fill these parks weeks ahead, so book early and confirm rig length and slide-out clearance before arrival. State park sites in Mount Tamalpais, including the Steep Ravine cabins and environmental sites, are booked through ReserveCalifornia on a six-month rolling window, with each new date opening at 8 a.m. Pacific time. High-demand Steep Ravine cabins also appear in a ReserveCalifornia drawing, with free applications accepted up to eight months in advance. Pantoll and Bootjack campgrounds are first-come, first-served and tent-only.
What to expect at Mill Valley RV parks
RV parks along the Highway 101 corridor are compact urban-edge properties rather than scenic destinations. Sites are typically gravel with full hookups, often narrow, and tightly spaced with limited room for slide-outs and awnings. Fifty-amp service is common at the larger parks, but thirty-amp availability varies, so confirm electrical needs when booking. Cell coverage is strong throughout Marin and San Francisco, and grocery, fuel, and propane are easy to reach. Traffic on Highway 101 and the Golden Gate Bridge is heavy during weekday commute hours and on summer weekends. Roads into Mount Tamalpais and Muir Woods are narrow and winding with low-clearance sections and tight curves; large motorhomes and trailers should park at the RV site and use a tow vehicle or rideshare for day trips into the parks.
