Campgrounds and RV parks near Pine Mountain Lake, CA

Yosemite National Park is the main draw. Big Oak Flat is the closest entrance, with Yosemite Valley, Tuolumne Grove of giant sequoias, and the Hetch Hetchy reservoir all reachable as day trips. Closer to the campgrounds, the Tuolumne River canyon offers whitewater rafting and fishing, and Stanislaus National Forest covers thousands of acres of hiking, mountain biking, and dispersed recreation. Activities around Pine Mountain Lake include hiking trails, an archery range, golf, an equestrian center, and a marina, though lake access is generally limited to property owners and their guests. The historic town of Groveland sits a few minutes away with restaurants, a small grocery, and fuel. Black Oak Casino Resort adds gaming, dining, and an arcade for rainy days.

Late spring through early fall is the core RV season. May and June bring strong waterfall flows in Yosemite, wildflowers in the foothills, and daytime temperatures that are warm but not extreme. July and August are the busiest months, when Yosemite Valley parking fills early and campgrounds near Groveland book out weeks ahead. Wildfire smoke can affect the region in late summer, and travelers should check Stanislaus National Forest and Cal Fire alerts before departure. September and October are strong shoulder months with cooler nights, thinner crowds, and reliable road access throughout the park. Tioga Road, the high-country route through Yosemite, typically closes with the first heavy snow and reopens in late May or June. Yosemite eliminated its timed-entry reservation system for the 2026 season, so a vehicle reservation is not required to enter the park, though an entrance pass is still needed. Winter brings rain and occasional snow at Pine Mountain Lake elevations, but Highway 120 to the Big Oak Flat entrance stays open year-round.

Roads into the area are paved but winding. Highway 120 climbs steadily from the Central Valley, with grades and tight curves that require attention in larger rigs. Pine Mountain Lake Campground provides power and water hookups at its RV sites, while nearby private resorts accommodate larger rigs with full hookups. Cell coverage is reliable around Groveland and patchy once inside Yosemite. Check-in at Pine Mountain Lake Campground is 11 a.m. and check-out is 10 a.m., quiet hours start at 10 p.m., generators are prohibited, and ground fires must be confined to designated barbecue pits. Fire restrictions are common from mid-summer through fall, so propane appliances are the safer plan. Bears are present throughout the region, and food should be stored inside the RV or in provided lockers.
