Campgrounds and RV parks near Pinole, CA

From a Pinole basecamp, the Bay Area opens up in three directions. Vallejo is home to Six Flags Discovery Kingdom and a passenger ferry that runs across San Pablo Bay to San Francisco, making a car-free day in the city realistic. Napa Valley wine country lies roughly thirty minutes north, and Muir Woods, Point Reyes, and Stinson Beach are reachable across the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge from Marin-side campgrounds. Closer to camp, Benicia State Recreation Area covers marsh, grassy hillsides, and rocky beaches along the narrowest portion of the Carquinez Strait, with about two and a half miles of road and bike paths used by cyclists, walkers, equestrians, and roller skaters. Dillon's Point is a popular shoreline fishing spot, and the marshland draws birders.

Pinole has a Mediterranean climate: long, warm, dry summers and short, cool, wet winters. The driest stretch runs roughly June through September, when measurable rain is uncommon and inland temperatures climb well above the coast. This window is also peak demand at every nearby RV park, and the private parks in Vallejo and Greenbrae often run near capacity on summer weekends. Winter brings most of the area's rain, with December typically the wettest month. Private parks like Tradewinds RV Park, Vallejo RV Park, Marin Park, and Marin RV Park stay open year-round, but state-side options shrink. Benicia State Recreation Area's three enroute sites remain first-come, first-served and are limited to one night, with entry after the listed afternoon cutoff and departure by 9 a.m. Spring and fall are the sweet spots for trip planning. Wildflowers and green hillsides peak from March into May, while September and October still deliver warm, dry weather with thinner crowds and easier midweek bookings.

The closest RV parks to Pinole are urban-edge properties, not wilderness campgrounds. Sites are typically level gravel or paved pads with full hookups, close neighbors, and limited shade. Tradewinds RV Park sits just off Interstate 80, so freeway noise is part of the experience; the trade-off is fast access to the Vallejo ferry, Napa Valley, and San Francisco. Marin RV Park has a similar feel: a compact layout near Highway 101, valued more for location than scenery. Benicia State Recreation Area is best understood as a legal overnight stop for self-contained motorhomes or trailers, not a destination campground. Tents are not permitted, and there are no electric or sewer hookups.
