Campgrounds and RV parks near Pittsburg, CA

The Delta is built around water. Boating, fishing, kayaking, water skiing, windsurfing, and wing foiling are the main draws, with striped bass, sturgeon, black bass, bluegill, and catfish all present in local waters. Sherman Island, just across the Antioch Bridge, is one of the Delta's premier wind sports spots and sits next door to Rio Viento RV Park. Eddo's Harbor and RV Park offers a boat launch, guest docking, and fuel for trailered boats. Brannan Island State Recreation Area adds a ten-lane boat launch, swimming areas, and birding through Delta marshes. On land, Mt Diablo State Park offers the Summit Trail from Live Oak, sandstone formations at nearby Rock City, and a paved summit road popular with cyclists.

The Pittsburg area has a Mediterranean climate: mild, wet winters and hot, dry summers. Winter daytime highs sit in the upper 50s Fahrenheit, with most of the year's rain falling between December and February and morning tule fog common in the Delta. Brannan Island stays open year-round, and from October 15 to May 15 some sites operate on a first-come, first-served basis rather than by reservation. Spring brings wildflowers to Mt Diablo and increasingly busy weekends; reservations for Live Oak typically fill on Fridays and Saturdays once temperatures warm. Summer is hot and dry, with inland highs regularly in the upper 80s and into the 90s, and afternoon winds funneling through the Delta. Fire restrictions are common from roughly May through October, and the park can close entirely during extreme fire danger, so check current rules before lighting a campfire. Fall cools off through September and October and is one of the best windows for Delta boating and Mt Diablo hiking before the rains return in November.

Delta campgrounds are flat, sit at or near sea level, and follow levee roads with narrow shoulders. Drive slowly and watch for oncoming traffic. Reaching Sherman Island from the south crosses the Antioch Bridge, which charges a toll, and there are no stores on the island itself, so stock up in Pittsburg or Antioch first. Wind is a near-daily summer feature; secure awnings and loose gear. Brannan Island has 102 family sites split between the Cottonwood and Willow loops, with a separate Olympic loop for RVs with water and electric hookups, and family sites cap at eight people. RV length is capped at 36 feet. At Mt Diablo, Live Oak has 22 sites with a 20-foot rig limit, gates close at sunset, cellular service is weak, and the spring-fed water supply can be limited in drought years.
