Campgrounds and RV parks near San Ramon, CA

Mount Diablo State Park is the dominant outdoor draw, with the summit road climbing to 3,849 feet and trails leading from Live Oak past the Rock City sandstone formations toward the peak. Cyclists use the same road as a regional training climb. Closer to town, the Iron Horse Regional Trail runs through San Ramon for walking and easy riding, and Las Trampas Regional Wilderness offers ridgeline hikes just west of the city. Delta-bound campers fish for striped bass and sturgeon out of Eddo's Harbor and explore the slough network by boat. Benicia State Recreation Area adds tidal marsh birding and paved paths along the Carquinez Strait. The Peninsula side gives quick access to Stanford, the Baylands, and San Francisco via Highway 101.

San Ramon has a Mediterranean climate with a long dry season from roughly May through October and a wet season concentrated between November and March. Inland campgrounds are usable year-round, but conditions vary noticeably with elevation and proximity to the water. Spring is the prime window for Mount Diablo. Wildflowers peak from March into April, temperatures are comfortable, and reservations at Live Oak fill quickly for weekends. Summer brings hot, dry inland days that can push past 32°C, while Delta breezes keep Rio Viento and Eddo's Harbor more tolerable and put fishing and boating at their busiest. Wildfire risk and red-flag warnings rise from late summer into early fall, and fire restrictions at state-park campgrounds are common. Fall offers cooler nights, lighter crowds, and generally clear weather. Winter is the wettest stretch, with most rain falling from December through February. Mount Diablo can see occasional snow on the upper peak, and Delta sites can flood during heavy storm cycles.

Expect a wide range of experience depending on where you land. Live Oak is rustic: 22 sites, picnic tables, fire pits or stoves, vault and flush facilities, no hookups, and limited cell service. The park gates close at sunset and reopen in the morning, so plan arrivals accordingly. Trailer Villa offers a more urban stay with full hookups, paved pads, laundry, and showers, and it caters to long-term as well as overnight guests. Rio Viento and Eddo's Harbor sit on the Delta with full-hookup RV sites, dock access, and a quiet, fishing-focused atmosphere. Benicia State Recreation Area is bare-bones: a handful of paved pull-ins for self-contained RVs only, no electric or sewer, with a required morning move-out. Tents are not permitted at the Benicia overnight area.
