Campgrounds and RV parks near Sheridan, CA

Folsom Lake is the dominant draw for water-based recreation in the area. The lake is open to all kinds of boating from jet skis to standup paddleboards, pontoon boats to waterskiing. Folsom Lake Marina provides rentals and slips, launch ramps are found around the lake, and fishing is excellent for trout, catfish, largemouth and smallmouth bass. The recreation area also connects to extensive biking, hiking, and horseback riding trails. Inland, the Gold Country foothills offer day trips to Auburn State Recreation Area, the historic downtowns of Auburn and Grass Valley, and the American River canyon for rafting and swimming. Empire Mine State Historic Park in Grass Valley preserves one of the oldest and most productive gold mines in California, with historic buildings and gardens to explore. Lake Tahoe is reachable as a long day trip via Interstate 80.

The Sheridan area follows a classic Mediterranean climate: hot, dry summers and cool, wet winters. Summer is peak season for water recreation at Folsom Lake and the foothill rivers, with reliably clear skies and daytime highs frequently in the 90s. Weekends and holidays from Memorial Day through Labor Day book out the earliest, particularly the hookup loops at state-park campgrounds. Spring and fall are the most comfortable months for touring, hiking and exploring Gold Country. Wildflowers bloom across the foothills in March and April, and fall delivers cooler nights with golden grasslands and turning oaks. Reservations are easier to land outside summer, though weekends still fill quickly. Winter brings the bulk of the region's rainfall. Valley-floor parks stay open year-round, but visitors should expect saturated ground, fog, and occasional storm closures on foothill roads. Beals Point is open year round and subject to reservations, while the more remote Peninsula campground can be subject to winter and road closures. Snow is rare at Sheridan's elevation but common on routes toward Tahoe.

Most campgrounds within easy reach of Sheridan are valley-floor or low-foothill parks with paved or gravel pads, full or partial hookups, and warm-weather amenities like pools and lake access. Beals Point has 69 family campsites that accommodate tents, trailers and motor homes up to 31 feet long, with full hookups provided in the RV loop (sites 50-69), a sanitation dump station, piped drinking water and wheelchair accessible restrooms with showers. Amenities include a snack bar, beach area with lifeguards during peak season, and paved trails for hiking and biking. Expect very hot afternoons in summer, dry conditions that raise wildfire awareness, and quiet, cool nights. Cell coverage is generally reliable on the valley floor and patchier in the foothills.
