RV camping near Sleepy Hollow, California
Sleepy Hollow is a small census-designated place in Marin County, California, sitting at about 177 feet of elevation roughly seven miles south of downtown Novato and bordered by San Anselmo to the south. The community itself is residential and has no campgrounds inside its boundaries, so RV travelers base out of full-service parks elsewhere in Marin County and use Sleepy Hollow as a quiet jumping-off point.
The closest RV options sit along the Highway 101 corridor in eastern Marin. Marin RV Park and Marin Park in Greenbrae provide full-hookup sites about ten minutes from the Golden Gate Bridge, with the Larkspur Ferry to San Francisco a short walk away. Golden Gate Trailer Park serves the same corridor near Corte Madera. Novato RV Park covers the northern end of the county. For a more rural stay near Point Reyes National Seashore, Olema Campground offers RV, tent, and cabin sites about 30 minutes west of Sleepy Hollow via Sir Francis Drake Boulevard.
Things to do near Sleepy Hollow
Sir Francis Drake Boulevard is the main artery west from Sleepy Hollow and connects to the headline attractions of West Marin. Samuel P. Taylor State Park, about 15 miles west of San Rafael, has shaded redwood groves along Lagunitas Creek, the paved Cross Marin Trail for cyclists and hikers, and the climb to Barnabe Peak for views across the county. Point Reyes National Seashore lies beyond, with Limantour Beach, the Point Reyes Lighthouse, tide pools, and tule elk near Tomales Point. Closer in, Mount Tamalpais State Park and Muir Woods offer redwood walks and ridge hiking. From the Greenbrae parks, the Larkspur Ferry crosses the bay to downtown San Francisco in about 30 minutes.

Marin County has a Mediterranean climate with a wet winter and a dry, often foggy summer. From roughly December through February, Pacific storms deliver the bulk of the year's rain. Lagunitas Creek access inside Samuel P. Taylor State Park is closed from December 1 through June 15 each year to protect spawning coho salmon and steelhead, and the Creekside Loop campsites at the park close from December 1 to March 1 due to seasonal flooding.
Spring brings green hills, wildflowers, and steadier weather. Summer is the busiest season for both private RV parks and state park campgrounds, with coastal fog common at Point Reyes and Mount Tamalpais even when inland Marin is warm and clear. Early fall, especially September, is often the warmest and clearest stretch and tends to be a good window for site availability after the school-year crowds thin. Late fall trends cooler and wetter as the rainy season returns.

Angel 😇 Life Saver ⛑️ Great Communication 📲📞 Informative 📚 PUNCTUAL ⏳️ Just a few words to describe this wonderful Host. When my prior host backed out and canceled on me the day of (There was no communication up til 48hrs before trip, and stopped again the morning of. I reached out for clarification and location, no response! Moments later Rveezy tells me the host is no longer comfortable with accommodating us) Evgeniy not only responed within 5min of me reachout out, but had us out and on the road to enjoy out trip within an hour. The vehicle is perfect, clean and easy to function. We had never driven or worked an RV before but his quick rundown and eargeness to answer any questions helped put out minds at ease. He is so kind, professonal, and absolutely Amazing 🤩. We will definitely rent from him again despite our extra charges for not having time to thoroughly clean out and fill up; but that was a very small price to pay for what we would have missed if he hadn't come to help us out of a pickle. How to book sites in the area
Bookings split between two systems. Private parks near Sleepy Hollow, including Marin RV Park, Marin Park, Golden Gate Trailer Park, Novato RV Park, and Olema Campground, are reserved directly through each park's own website or phone line. These fill quickly for summer weekends and holidays, so booking several weeks ahead is recommended. Olema Campground in particular is a common base for Point Reyes and books up early for peak weekends.
Public campgrounds in California state parks, including Samuel P. Taylor State Park and Mount Tamalpais State Park, are booked through ReserveCalifornia. The reservation window opens six months to the day in advance at 8:00 a.m. Pacific Time on a rolling basis, and popular coastal sites can sell out within minutes of opening.
What to expect on the ground
Sites along the Highway 101 corridor are urban in feel. Marin RV Park and Marin Park sit beside the Corte Madera Marsh with gravel pads, full hookups, laundry, and a dog-walking area overlooking San Francisco Bay; spaces are tight but accommodate big rigs. The trade-off is convenience: a short walk reaches the Larkspur Ferry, and grocery shopping is close by. Olema Campground is rural by contrast, with full-hookup RV spots, tent sites, cabins, hot showers, a laundry room, a playground, and a dog park, set next to Point Reyes National Seashore. Cell coverage is weaker out west, and coastal fog and morning dew are routine under the redwoods, so plan for layers.

On RVezy, you'll typically see travel trailers from around $90 to $150 per night, Class C motorhomes from $175 to $275, and luxury Class A rigs from $275 to $450. Pro tip: midweek bookings (Sunday through Thursday) often run 15 to 25 percent less than weekends, and shoulder months like April, May, and October are the sweet spot for both price and weather.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Sleepy%20Hollow%2C%20CaliforniaDo I need a special license to rent an RV in Sleepy Hollow?
Good news: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Sleepy Hollow. California does not require a commercial driver's license (CDL) or any special RV endorsement for motorhomes or travel trailers commonly listed on RVezy. You'll just need to be 25 or older and upload your license through the RVezy platform for quick ID confirmation. Visiting from abroad? Pick up an International Driving Permit (IDP) from your home auto association before your trip and you're set. Most first-time renters are surprised how straightforward the process is, even for big Class A rigs cruising along Sir Francis Drake Boulevard.

Every RV rental in Sleepy Hollow booked through RVezy includes a protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can hit Highway 101 with real peace of mind. The protection plan covers most damages to the vehicle and gives you financial backup if something unexpected happens on your Marin County RV trip. During checkout you'll choose from different RVezy renter protection tiers (guests select the coverage level, not hosts) so you can match the protection to your trip and comfort level. Combined with RVezy customer support before, during, and after your booking, it's about as worry-free as travel gets.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat is the cancellation policy if my Sleepy Hollow RV trip plans change?
Booking is low-risk: RVezy (not individual hosts) sets the cancellation policy, and there is a money-back grace period right after you book so you can lock in your Sleepy Hollow RV rental with confidence. After the grace period, refund eligibility depends on how far out you cancel relative to your trip start date. You'll see the full policy details during checkout and in your booking confirmation. If a host ever cancels on you, RVezy refunds your booking or provides travel credits. Pro tip: book early to get the best rigs around San Anselmo and Fairfax, knowing you have flexibility built in if life changes.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in Sleepy Hollow?
Absolutely, dogs are welcome on many trips. Use the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy to instantly see every pet-friendly RV rental in Sleepy Hollow, then message the host with your dog's size and breed before booking. Marin County is one of the most dog-loving spots in California: Memorial Park in San Anselmo, the Terra Linda/Sleepy Hollow Open Space Preserve, and nearby Loma Alta Preserve all welcome leashed pups. For longer outings, China Camp State Park allows leashed dogs in the campground and on fire roads. Pack a tie-out and water bowl, and your pup will love this Sleepy Hollow RV trip as much as you do.
parks.ca.gov/?page_id=466Can the RV be delivered to my campground or address in Sleepy Hollow?
Yes, RV delivery in Sleepy Hollow is one of the most popular options on RVezy, especially for first-timers who don't want to drive a 30-foot motorhome down narrow Butterfield Road. Many local hosts will deliver to your driveway, a nearby campground like Olema Campground or China Camp State Park, or a festival site, then set up the rig and walk you through every system. Use the Delivery filter to see which listings offer it, and check each host's delivery radius and fee (typically $2 to $5 per mile from their location). It's the easiest way to turn a campervan rental in Sleepy Hollow into a turn-key vacation.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Sleepy%20Hollow%2C%20CaliforniaHow far can I drive on a Sleepy Hollow RV rental, and is unlimited mileage available?
You've got plenty of road to explore. Most RVezy hosts in Marin County include 100 to 150 free miles per night, with extra miles available at $0.30 to $0.50 each, and some listings offer RV rental with unlimited mileage, perfect for longer loops. From Sleepy Hollow you can reach Point Reyes National Seashore in about 35 minutes (25 miles), Napa Valley in about an hour (45 miles), Yosemite National Park in roughly four hours (190 miles), Lake Tahoe in about three and a half hours (200 miles), and the Avenue of the Giants redwoods in about four hours (215 miles). Filter by unlimited mileage if you're planning a big loop.
nps.gov/pore/planyourvisit/directions.htmWhere are the best campgrounds near Sleepy Hollow to park my RV?
You're spoiled for choice. Some of the best campgrounds near Sleepy Hollow include Samuel P. Taylor State Park (about 15 miles west, redwoods and creek-side sites with hookups at around $35 per night), China Camp State Park in San Rafael (waterfront sites on the Bay), Olema Campground near Point Reyes (full hookups and RV-friendly), Marin Park RV in Greenbrae (the closest full-hookup park to San Francisco, 10 miles south), and Lawson's Landing in Dillon Beach for ocean views. Book through ReserveCalifornia for state parks and directly with private parks. Pro tip: reserve six months ahead for summer weekends, they go fast.
parks.ca.gov/?page_id=469When is the best time of year for an RV trip from Sleepy Hollow?
Sleepy Hollow enjoys a Mediterranean microclimate with mild weather almost year-round, so RV camping Sleepy Hollow works in nearly every season. The sweet spot is April through June, when hillsides are green, wildflowers bloom along Loma Alta, and daytime highs sit between 65 and 75°F. September and October bring warm, dry, fog-free days perfect for the coast. Summer (July to August) is popular but coastal mornings can be foggy; winters (December to February) are cool and wet with lows around 40°F but rarely freezing, so off-season rentals are very doable. Local insider tip: book a midweek shoulder-season trip and you'll have Point Reyes practically to yourself.
weather.gov/mtr/I've never rented an RV before. Will I be okay picking one up in Sleepy Hollow?
You'll do great, even if it's your first time renting an RV. Every RVezy host gives you a hands-on walkthrough at pickup covering propane, water, the generator, slide-outs, and dumping, and they're a quick text away during your trip. You can also message the host through the listing before booking with any questions. If you're nervous about driving narrow roads like Butterfield Road or Sir Francis Drake Boulevard, choose a Class B campervan or smaller Class C, or simply pick a host who offers delivery so you skip city driving altogether. Within an hour you'll feel like you've done this for years.
dmv.ca.gov/portal/driver-education-and-safety/special-interest-driver-guides/recreational-vehicles-and-trailers/What happens if my RV breaks down on a trip from Sleepy Hollow?
You're covered. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection package, so whether you're parked at Samuel P. Taylor State Park or climbing Highway 1 toward Stinson Beach, help is one phone call away. The roadside team handles flats, jump-starts, lockouts, fuel delivery, and towing to the nearest qualified service center. Your host is also reachable directly through the RVezy app for quick troubleshooting on quirks unique to their rig. Save the roadside number in your phone before you leave Sleepy Hollow, and you can hit the road knowing the safety net is real.
chp.ca.gov/programs-services/services-information/road-informationCan I take my Sleepy Hollow RV rental across state lines or into Canada?
Yes, an RV road trip from Sleepy Hollow can absolutely cross state lines. Oregon (about 6 hours north up Highway 101), Nevada via Lake Tahoe (3.5 hours), and Arizona via the I-40 corridor are all popular. Cross-border travel into Canada may be allowed depending on the host's insurance and approval, so message the host directly from the listing to confirm before you book. One firm rule: travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because insurance coverage doesn't extend south of the border. For most renters, the California coast and Pacific Northwest loop is more than enough adventure for one trip anyway.
cbp.gov/travel/us-citizens/know-before-you-goWhat kind of fuel mileage should I expect, and what does gas cost around Sleepy Hollow?
Plan your fuel budget with realistic numbers. Class B campervans typically get 18 to 22 MPG, Class C motorhomes 8 to 12 MPG, Class A rigs 6 to 10 MPG, and travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle (usually 10 to 14 MPG combined). Marin County gas prices tend to run about $1.00 per gallon higher than the national average, so fill up at Costco in Novato or stations along Highway 101 before heading north into pricier Point Reyes. For a 300-mile loop in a Class C, budget roughly $150 to $200 in fuel. Diesel rigs go farther per gallon and shine on longer trips.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground for my Marin RV trip?
Book sooner than you think, especially in summer. California State Parks like Samuel P. Taylor and China Camp open reservations on ReserveCalifornia six months ahead to the day, and prime weekend sites in May through September are often snapped up within minutes. For shoulder season (April, October, November) you can usually find spots two to four weeks out, and winter weekday availability is wide open. Pro tip: set a calendar reminder for exactly six months before your target date at 8 a.m. Pacific to grab the best loops at Samuel P. Taylor, then book your motorhome rental Sleepy Hollow on RVezy right after.
reservecalifornia.com/What are the local driving conditions like around Sleepy Hollow?
Driving here is manageable with a little awareness. Sleepy Hollow sits off Butterfield Road, a narrow two-mile residential street that connects to Sir Francis Drake Boulevard, so smaller rigs (Class B, Class C under 28 feet) handle local streets best. Highway 101 runs just east through San Rafael and gets busy during weekday commute hours (7 to 9 a.m. and 4 to 7 p.m.), so plan pickups and drop-offs midday. Watch for low-clearance underpasses in downtown San Anselmo and Fairfax (some under 12 feet), and use the right lane heading west on Sir Francis Drake toward Point Reyes. Caltrans QuickMap is your friend for real-time traffic and closures.
quickmap.dot.ca.gov/What amenities will I find at campgrounds near Sleepy Hollow?
Marin and Sonoma campgrounds offer a great range of amenities. Private parks like Marin Park RV (Greenbrae) and Olema Campground have full hookups (water, electric, sewer), Wi-Fi, laundry, and hot showers. State parks like Samuel P. Taylor offer water and flush toilets but limited electrical hookups, plus dump stations on site. The closest dump stations to Sleepy Hollow are at Marin Park RV in Greenbrae and China Camp State Park. Potable water fill-ups are easy at any private park or state park entrance. Pro tip: top up fresh water before leaving the host and you'll have all the comforts of home in the redwoods.
parks.ca.gov/?page_id=466What's included inside a typical RV rental in Sleepy Hollow?

Most listings also include linens, cookware, a generator or solar setup, and outdoor chairs. Many hosts offer Wi-Fi hotspots, TVs, outdoor showers, and bike racks as add-ons. Check each listing's Amenities section, and message the host if you need something specific like a child car seat anchor or extra propane tank. It's basically a vacation rental on wheels.

rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Sleepy%20Hollow%2C%20CaliforniaHow does payment and the security deposit work when I rent an RV in Sleepy Hollow?
Payment is simple and secure through the RVezy platform: you pay your rental total, taxes, and chosen protection plan by credit card when you book, with no cash exchanged with the host. A refundable security deposit (commonly $500 to $1,500 depending on the rig) is held separately from your booking payment and released after drop-off, assuming the RV comes back in the same condition. To avoid any issues, take date-stamped photos of the interior, exterior, fuel gauge, and odometer at both pickup and drop-off. Pro tip: keep receipts for fuel and propane top-ups, hosts appreciate it and your deposit returns faster.
