Campgrounds near West Goshen, California
West Goshen sits in Tulare County in California's San Joaquin Valley, on the flat agricultural plain between Highway 99 and Highway 198. The location works well as an RV base because it puts travelers within roughly an hour's drive of Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks while keeping campsites at low elevation where roads stay open year-round and big-rig access is straightforward.
The closest full-service option is the Visalia / Sequoia National Park KOA Journey, a pull-through park off Highway 198 with full hook-ups, a seasonal pool, laundry, and a camp store. Riverland RV Resort and Kings River RV Resort, both on the Kings River near Kingsburg, are the nearest river-front parks and add boat launches, swimming beaches, and pools to the mix. Royal Palms and Country Manor Mobile Home Community offer more residential, long-stay environments. Many travelers split nights between a valley park for hook-ups and the in-park national-park campgrounds for proximity to the giant sequoias.
Things to do near West Goshen
Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks sit just under an hour's drive away and protect the General Sherman Tree along with Mt. Whitney, the tallest peak in the contiguous United States. Day trips from the valley typically target the Giant Forest, Moro Rock, Crystal Cave, and the Kings Canyon Scenic Byway down to Cedar Grove. Closer to camp, the Kings River corridor near Kingsburg is the main water-recreation draw, with boat launches, swimming, and floating through summer at the river resorts. The surrounding Blossom Trail between Visalia and Fresno runs through stone fruit orchards in late winter and early spring. Downtown Visalia adds restaurants, a Saturday farmers market, and theaters for evenings off the road.

Seasonal patterns and what to plan around
- spring
March - May
75° / 50°F 28 mmOrchard bloom; comfortable touring on valley and foothills
- summer
June - August
95° / 64°F 2 mmHot and dry; park sites fill within minutes of release
- fall
September - November
79° / 52°F 17 mmBest touring window; lower occupancy after Labor Day
- winter
December - February
61° / 39°F 58 mmMild valley, tule fog; mountain roads may require chains
The valley floor and the high country run on different calendars, and RV trips here need to account for both. Winter in West Goshen is mild and damp at low elevation, with tule fog common on still mornings and most full-hook-up parks open year-round. In the mountains above, the Generals Highway and Highway 180 into Kings Canyon can require chains or close entirely after storms, so winter visitors typically stage at a valley park and watch road conditions. The Mineral King Road closes completely for winter, typically from November through late May.
Spring brings wildflowers, full rivers, and the orchard bloom along the Blossom Trail. Summer is hot and dry on the valley floor, with afternoon highs frequently in the mid-30s Celsius; shaded riverside sites and pools become the draw. Summer demand inside the national parks is extreme, with popular campgrounds like Lodgepole and Dorst Creek filling within minutes of release. Fall is the most comfortable touring window, with warm days, cool nights, and lower campground occupancy through October.

Its was our first time camping and we are very lucky we found this one. Alex is a great host and explained everything before we departed. We were a little stressed as it was our first time camping in King's Canyon, but Alex made us feel comfortable with the trailer and walked us through everything. The trailer is super neat and clean we didn't have to do anything to set up. We put our stuff in it and it was ready to go which made our trip a lot easier. Alex is very friendly and was available throughout our whole trip in case we had questions and needed help. We will definitely be coming back to Alex for all our camping adventures. Thank you it was a great experience!

We had a great week in the Sequoias using Alex’s trailer. It was extremely clean and had great supplies available. The kids loved their bunkbeds plus the option to sleep on the fold-down dinette area. Communication with Alex was great - he provided lots of helpful details and helped us resolve one minor issue right away. Definitely recommend!

How to book campgrounds in the area
Private parks around West Goshen and Kingsburg book directly through the operator or through aggregators. The Visalia / Sequoia National Park KOA Journey takes reservations through koa.com, and Kings River RV Resort lists availability through its own site. Holiday weekends and summer river weekends fill weeks ahead at the river parks, so book early.
For sites inside the national parks, plan around the federal reservation calendar. Reservations open on a one-month rolling window through Recreation.gov: on the 15th of each month at 7:00 AM Pacific Time, reservations become available for one month ahead, so June reservations open on May 15th. Azalea Campground is open year-round, and during winter a limited number of sites are available on a first-come, first-served basis through Recreation.gov's Scan and Pay mobile app.
What to expect on the ground
Expect classic Central Valley conditions: flat terrain, easy big-rig navigation, agricultural surroundings, and long, hot summer afternoons. Valley parks tend to be grassy with mature shade trees and full hook-ups, while sites inside the national parks are dry-camp only with bear boxes and no utilities. Lodgepole Campground sits on the Marble Fork of the Kaweah River at an elevation of 6,700 feet, with the General Sherman Tree just two miles from the campground, so RVers staging from the valley should plan for a significant climb on Highway 198. Vehicles over 22 feet long should enter via the northern Highway 180 entrance to reach the Giant Forest, Lodgepole, and Dorst Creek. Cell coverage is solid in the valley and patchy to nonexistent inside the parks. Pack bear-resistant food storage habits and a paper map.
