Campgrounds near Woodacre, California
Woodacre sits in the San Geronimo Valley in west Marin County, surrounded by redwood-lined hills and within easy reach of Point Reyes National Seashore, Mount Tamalpais, and the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. The town lies a short drive west of San Rafael along the Sir Francis Drake corridor, which runs from Highway 101 out toward the coast.
RV options in the immediate area lean toward private parks rather than drive-in public campgrounds. Novato RV Park, Marin RV Park, Marin Park, and Golden Gate Trailer Park serve as full-hookup base camps east of Woodacre, while Olema Campground sits west along Sir Francis Drake Boulevard near the entrance to Point Reyes. Samuel P. Taylor State Park, the largest public campground in the valley, accommodates trailers and smaller motorhomes but has no hookups. Together these options cover everything from short stopovers to week-long trips combining coast, redwoods, and Bay Area sightseeing.
Things to do near Woodacre
Samuel P. Taylor State Park is the closest hiking hub, with the paved Cross Marin Trail running along Lagunitas Creek under coast redwoods and the climb to Barnabe Peak offering wide views over Marin. West along Sir Francis Drake Boulevard, Point Reyes National Seashore covers beaches, bluffs, the historic lighthouse, and tule elk viewing at Tomales Point. Mount Tamalpais State Park sits south of Woodacre with summit drives and trail networks. Closer to town, visitors head to Stinson Beach for swimming, the Marin Headlands for Golden Gate Bridge viewpoints, and Point Reyes Station for oyster farms and bakeries. San Francisco is roughly 45 minutes south by car.

Marin's coastal Mediterranean climate produces a sharp wet-dry split that shapes camping season. Roughly 35 to 40 inches of rain falls in the San Geronimo Valley each year, almost all of it between November and April, with December typically the wettest month. Winter brings green hills, mushroom flushes, and occasional storm closures of low-lying creekside sites. Lagunitas Creek through Samuel P. Taylor sees coho salmon and steelhead runs, and creek access there is closed December 1 through June 15 to protect spawning fish.
Spring delivers wildflowers and the best waterfall flows but also lingering mud on dirt routes. Summer is dry and mild rather than hot, with persistent morning fog on the coast at Point Reyes and Stinson Beach, while inland Woodacre and the San Geronimo Valley warm into the seventies and eighties. Fall is the most reliable RV window, with clear skies, light winds, and smaller crowds after Labor Day. Late-summer and early-fall fire danger can trigger campfire bans across state and federal lands.

Angel 😇 Life Saver ⛑️ Great Communication 📲📞 Informative 📚 PUNCTUAL ⏳️ Just a few words to describe this wonderful Host. When my prior host backed out and canceled on me the day of (There was no communication up til 48hrs before trip, and stopped again the morning of. I reached out for clarification and location, no response! Moments later Rveezy tells me the host is no longer comfortable with accommodating us) Evgeniy not only responed within 5min of me reachout out, but had us out and on the road to enjoy out trip within an hour. The vehicle is perfect, clean and easy to function. We had never driven or worked an RV before but his quick rundown and eargeness to answer any questions helped put out minds at ease. He is so kind, professonal, and absolutely Amazing 🤩. We will definitely rent from him again despite our extra charges for not having time to thoroughly clean out and fill up; but that was a very small price to pay for what we would have missed if he hadn't come to help us out of a pickle. How to book campgrounds in the area
Private RV parks around Novato and San Rafael, including Novato RV Park, Marin RV Park, Marin Park, and Golden Gate Trailer Park, take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone, and full hookups generally book several weeks out for summer weekends. Olema Campground, the closest private park to Point Reyes, also reserves direct. For Samuel P. Taylor State Park, use ReserveCalifornia or call 1-800-444-7275; sites can be booked up to six months in advance, and weekend nights in summer typically fill the day they open. Point Reyes National Seashore offers only hike-in, bike-in, and boat-in backcountry sites with no car or RV camping, and most permits are reserved up to three months ahead on Recreation.gov, with a smaller share released on a 14-day window.
What to expect on the ground
Roads into the San Geronimo Valley and out to Point Reyes are narrow and winding. Sir Francis Drake Boulevard tightens past Lagunitas, and large Class A rigs should plan routes carefully. Samuel P. Taylor accommodates trailers and smaller motorhomes but offers no hookups, with coin-operated showers and a dump station on site. Cell coverage is patchy in the redwood canyons and drops off along parts of the Point Reyes peninsula. Summer fog can keep coastal temperatures cool enough for jackets even when inland sites are warm, so pack layers. Black-tailed deer, wild turkeys, and raccoons are common around campsites, and food storage in vehicles or hard-sided containers is required at state and national park sites. Leashed dogs are permitted in the Samuel P. Taylor campground and on the Cross Marin Trail but not on Point Reyes backcountry trails.

On RVezy, travel trailers typically start around $95 to $150 per night, Class C motorhomes range from $175 to $300, and larger Class A coaches sit at the higher end. Mid-week bookings and shoulder season dates (March, April, October) usually deliver the best deals on a Woodacre RV trip. Use the price filter to sort by budget and look for the Instant Book badge to lock in your dates faster. Pro tip: a 5+ night booking sometimes unlocks weekly discounts that hosts set themselves.

help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat if I need to cancel my Woodacre RV trip?
Booking is low risk. RVezy applies a standard cancellation policy that includes a money-back grace period right after you book, giving you breathing room if plans change. Refund outcomes depend on how far ahead of your trip you cancel. The cancellation policy is managed by RVezy directly, not by individual hosts, which keeps things consistent no matter which Marin County listing you choose. If a host cancels on you, RVezy will help you rebook or provide a refund. Review the full policy before checkout, and contact RVezy customer support anytime before, during, or after your trip if plans change.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in Woodacre?
Absolutely, Woodacre and surrounding West Marin are wonderfully dog-friendly. Filter for a pet-friendly RV rental in Woodacre on RVezy and you'll find plenty of hosts who welcome four-legged co-pilots (some may charge a small pet fee, set transparently in the listing). Samuel P. Taylor State Park allows leashed dogs in the campground, the picnic day-use area, and along the paved Cross Marin Trail, perfect for morning walks under the redwoods. Point Reyes National Seashore has specific dog-friendly beaches like Kehoe and Limantour South. Pro tip: pack a long lead and extra towels, the Lagunitas Creek area gets muddy after coastal fog.
parks.ca.gov/samuelptaylorCan the RV be delivered to my campsite or vacation rental in Woodacre?
Yes, RV delivery in Woodacre is one of the smartest moves for first-time renters. Many RVezy hosts in Marin County will drive the motorhome or travel trailer directly to your campsite at Samuel P. Taylor State Park, Olema Campground, or even a private property in San Anselmo, Fairfax, or Lagunitas. They'll level it, hook up water and power, and walk you through every system before they leave. Use the Delivery filter when searching, then message the host with your destination to confirm distance and any delivery fee. It's a fantastic way to skip the stress of driving Sir Francis Drake Boulevard's winding curves in a big rig.
parks.ca.gov/samuelptaylorHow does mileage work and how far can I drive my Woodacre RV rental?
Mileage policies on RVezy are set by each host and listed clearly on the listing page, so there are no surprises. You will see options ranging from a daily mileage allowance (often 100 to 150 miles per day) to RV rental with unlimited mileage, ideal for an RV road trip from Woodacre up the coast. Popular routes from Woodacre include Point Reyes Lighthouse (about 40 miles by road), Bodega Bay (about 35 miles), Napa Valley (about 55 miles), Mendocino (about 145 miles), and Yosemite Valley (about 200 miles). Pro tip: if you are planning anything beyond Marin County, filter for unlimited mileage listings, the math usually works in your favor.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Woodacre,CaliforniaWhere can I stay in an RV near Woodacre?
You have great choices for RV camping near Woodacre. Samuel P. Taylor State Park on Sir Francis Drake Boulevard in Lagunitas, just minutes from Woodacre, offers RV-friendly sites among coast redwoods along Lagunitas Creek (no individual hookups). Olema Campground sits at the gateway to Point Reyes and offers full hookup sites. Marin RV Park in Greenbrae is about 20 minutes east and convenient for Bay Area sightseeing. San Francisco North/Petaluma KOA (about 35 miles north) has pools and full amenities for families. Bodega Bay RV Park offers ocean access about an hour up the coast. Overnight street parking is restricted in most of West Marin, so book a campground in advance.
parks.ca.gov/?page_id=469When is the best time to visit Woodacre in an RV?
Late spring through early fall (mid-April through October) is the sweet spot for an RV trip in Marin County, with daytime highs in the upper 60s to low 80s and cool 50s overnight. May through August brings the famous coastal fog that typically burns off by midday, especially toward Point Reyes. September and October are the local insider's secret: clear skies, warm afternoons, lighter crowds, and easier campground reservations. Winter (November through March) is mild but rainy, with temperatures in the 40s and 50s, still beautiful for redwood hikes if you don't mind drizzle. Book early for summer weekends, Samuel P. Taylor fills six months out.
weather.gov/mtr/I've never driven an RV before. Will I be okay renting in Woodacre?
Yes, first time renting an RV in Woodacre is absolutely doable, and your host is your secret weapon. Every RVezy host provides a hands-on orientation at pickup, walking you through driving, hookups, awnings, slide-outs, and the dump procedure. Start with something approachable like a Class B campervan or a small Class C motorhome (20 to 25 feet) for the curvy stretches of Sir Francis Drake Boulevard between Woodacre and Olema. Message your host before booking with any nerves you have, they expect it and love helping new renters succeed. Pro tip: drive your first leg in daylight and stop at a quiet pullout in Lagunitas to practice mirrors before you hit the coast.
dmv.ca.gov/portal/handbook/california-driver-handbook/What happens if something breaks down on my Marin County RV trip?
You are never alone on the road. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, so a flat tire on Highway 1, a battery issue at Samuel P. Taylor, or a propane question near Point Reyes Station can be handled with one call. Your host is also typically reachable by phone or in-app message for quick questions about quirks of their specific RV. Save both numbers in your phone before pulling out. Pro tip: cell service can drop in the redwood canyons west of Woodacre, so screenshot key contacts and your campground confirmation before leaving the Bay Area.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Woodacre RV rental across state lines or into Canada or Mexico?
Cross-country trips from Woodacre are very doable. Oregon, Nevada, and Arizona are popular extensions of a Marin County RV trip, and most hosts allow interstate travel within the United States, just confirm in the listing or by messaging before booking. Travel into Canada may be permitted by some hosts depending on insurance, so ask first if Vancouver or Banff is on your itinerary. Travel into Mexico is not allowed on RVezy rentals because insurance coverage does not extend across that border. Popular multi-state routes from Woodacre include the Pacific Coast Highway north to Oregon (about 500 miles to Brookings) and the loop east to Lake Tahoe and Reno (about 220 miles).
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityHow much will I spend on fuel for an RV road trip from Woodacre?
Budgeting for fuel is straightforward once you know the patterns. Gas prices in Marin County run higher than the national average (often $5 to $6 per gallon as of recent years), so plan to fill up at Costco in Novato or stations in Petaluma before heading west. Class B campervans average 18 to 22 miles per gallon (MPG), Class C motorhomes 10 to 14 MPG, and larger Class A coaches 7 to 10 MPG. A 200-mile round trip to Mendocino in a Class C might run roughly $80 to $120 in fuel. Pro tip: GasBuddy is your friend in West Marin where stations are sparse and pricier.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Woodacre?
Book early, Marin County campgrounds are competitive. California State Parks (including Samuel P. Taylor) opens reservations exactly six months ahead through ReserveCalifornia.com, and prime summer and holiday weekends sell out within minutes. Point Reyes National Seashore backcountry sites book through Recreation.gov on a similar window. Private parks like Olema Campground and San Francisco North/Petaluma KOA typically allow earlier booking but also fill fast for July and August. For a smooth Woodacre RV trip, set a calendar reminder for the six-month mark, log in right at 8 a.m. Pacific, and have backup dates ready. Mid-week stays in spring or fall are much easier to grab last-minute.
reservecalifornia.com/What are the driving conditions like around Woodacre?
Woodacre sits in a quiet wooded valley along Sir Francis Drake Boulevard, the main artery through West Marin. The road is paved and well-maintained but winding, with tight curves between Fairfax and the coast, take it slow and use pullouts for faster traffic. Avoid driving large Class A rigs through downtown San Anselmo at rush hour (4 to 6 p.m.). Coastal fog can reduce visibility in summer mornings, especially near Olema and Point Reyes. Watch for cyclists year-round, this is Marin, and the Cross Marin Trail brings lots of riders. Pro tip: if city driving worries you, request RV delivery so the host handles the trickiest stretches.
quickmap.dot.ca.gov/What amenities will I find at campgrounds near Woodacre?
The best campgrounds near Woodacre cover the essentials and then some. Samuel P. Taylor State Park has flush toilets, hot coin-operated showers, drinking water spigots, fire rings, picnic tables, and a dump station, though no individual electrical hookups, so you'll rely on your RV's batteries and generator. Olema Campground and San Francisco North/Petaluma KOA offer full hookups (water, electric, sewer) plus laundry and Wi-Fi. For fresh water fills and dump stations between trips, Marin Park RV in San Rafael and the Petaluma KOA both welcome day visitors for a small fee. Always pack a 25-foot drinking-water hose, not every spigot is right next to your site.
parks.ca.gov/samuelptaylorWhat's inside the RVs available for rent in Woodacre?
RVs on RVezy in Woodacre come surprisingly well-equipped for a comfortable trip. Expect real beds (queen or king in most Class C motorhomes and travel trailers, convertible dinettes for kids), a full kitchen with stove, microwave, fridge, and basic cookware, plus a wet or dry bathroom with shower and toilet. Most include air conditioning, a furnace, and seatbelts for safe family travel. Many hosts add Wi-Fi hotspots, a TV, a backup camera, solar panels, or a generator for off-grid stays at Samuel P. Taylor. Check the Amenities section of each listing carefully, then message the host if a specific item like a coffee maker or kids' bedding matters to you.
nhtsa.gov/road-safety/recreational-vehicle-safetyWhat add-ons and pickup options should I look for when booking?
Hosts on RVezy offer add-ons that can transform your motorhome rental in Woodacre into a turnkey experience. Common options include bedding and linen packages ($25 to $75), kitchen kits, camping chairs and tables, bike racks, generators, propane refills, and even pre-stocked groceries. Pickup is typically at the host's home in Woodacre, Fairfax, San Anselmo, or nearby, with delivery available for an extra fee (great if you don't want to drive a rig through Bay Area traffic). Mileage policies, generator hours, and pet fees are all spelled out in the listing. Pro tip: ask for a bike rack, the Cross Marin Trail is paved and perfect for an easy family ride.
bayareametro.gov/How does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is simple and secure. You pay through the RVezy platform with a credit card, never directly to the host, which protects both of you. At booking, you will see the nightly rate, RVezy service fee, your chosen protection plan, taxes, and any host add-ons clearly itemized. A refundable security deposit (commonly $500 to $1,500 depending on the RV) is placed as a hold on your card before pickup and released after a smooth return. To avoid any deposit issues on your Woodacre RV rental, complete the walkthrough carefully, photograph the rig at pickup and drop-off, follow the mileage and generator policies, and return it clean with a full fuel tank.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksIs a cheap RV rental in Woodacre possible for a family trip?
Yes, a cheap RV rental in Woodacre is very achievable for a family RV trip. Travel trailers (which require a host who delivers, or a tow vehicle you provide) are typically the most budget-friendly option, often $95 to $130 per night. Stack savings by booking mid-week, choosing shoulder season (April, May, September, October), watching for weekly discounts hosts set themselves, and choosing a state park like Samuel P. Taylor (around $35 per night for standard sites) instead of a private resort. With four to six sleeping spots in most family-sized RVs, the per-person cost easily beats Bay Area hotels. Pro tip: pack groceries from Good Earth in Fairfax before heading west, options thin out past Olema.
