Campgrounds and RV parks near Camden, DE

At Killens Pond, the year-round campground features 59 sites with electric and water hookups plus a primitive camping loop for tents only with 17 walk-in sites, and campers can fish or paddle the 66-acre pond, ride the waterpark, and visit the nature center. The water park, including pools and water slides, is seasonal and charges a separate admission fee. At Martinak State Park, a boat launch gives anglers and kayakers direct water access, and the park's position at the confluence of the Choptank River and Watts Creek means multiple spots to cast a line or put in a kayak. Rangers have been known to make rounds through the campground with live animals, including turtles and snakes, for an informal educational experience that younger campers tend to appreciate. Dover itself adds the Air Mobility Command Museum, the John Dickinson Plantation, and NASCAR weekends at the Monster Mile. Rehoboth Beach and the Cape May-Lewes Ferry are within an hour by RV.

Peak season on the Delmarva runs from Memorial Day through Labor Day, with weekends filling early at both public parks and private resorts near the beaches. Spring brings cooler nights and more rain, with nor'easters still possible. Nor'easters, the most common coastal storms, bring strong winds, heavy precipitation, and coastal flooding, and are most active from mid-winter through spring, with peak activity during March. Summer is hot and humid. Summers are hot and humid, with 25 days per year reaching or surpassing 90°F, and brief but heavy summer thunderstorms are common. Fall is often the sweet spot for RV travel: warm days, cool nights, and thinner crowds. Martinak is open year-round, though winter services are limited. Due to recent quarantines and threats of invasive insects, outside firewood is no longer permitted in Delaware State Park campgrounds.

Killens Pond runs a wooded family campground. Sites are shaded with level dirt pads, water and electric hookups, and fire rings, and facilities include clean bathhouses with free hot showers, potable water stations throughout the campground, and wheelbarrow-like carts to help transport gear. By definition, Delaware State Park Campgrounds are family campgrounds, and group camping is prohibited. Martinak keeps things simple: two loops each centered around its own bathhouse, with Loop B carrying 30-amp electric hookups and Loop A offering a mix of non-electric sites and a handful of first-come, first-served electric spots. No water hookups are available, but potable water is located around each loop, and a dump station is available for trailer use. Jellystone Delaware Beaches leans resort-style, with full hookups for RVs, tent sites, a swimming pool, and dog-friendly areas.
