Campgrounds and RV parks near Dover Base Housing, DE

At Killens Pond State Park, activities center on the 66-acre millpond. The pond offers boat rentals and fishing, and the seasonal Killens Pond Water Park adds pools and slides. The Pondside Trail provides an easy loop with wildlife viewing, the nature center runs educational programs, and there are playgrounds and sports courts on site. Families staying at Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park Camp-Resort: Delaware Beaches get resort-style amenities, including a splash pad, swimming pool, arcade, outdoor cinema, laser tag, and a jumping pillow. Off site, Dover offers the Air Mobility Command Museum at Dover Air Force Base, the John Dickinson Plantation, and the Delaware Agricultural Museum, plus day trips east to Rehoboth Beach, Lewes, and Cape Henlopen State Park.

Central Delaware has four clear seasons. Dover has a humid subtropical climate with hot, humid summers, and around 25 days per year reach or surpass 90°F, with brief but heavy summer thunderstorms common. The monthly mean temperature ranges from about 36°F in January to about 78°F in July, and the annual total precipitation of around 47.6 inches is spread rather evenly year-round. Late spring and early fall are the most comfortable windows for RV travel. Peak demand runs from Memorial Day through Labor Day, when Jellystone and the state-park loops fill weekends well in advance. Beach-adjacent parks book out first. Winters are moderated by the Delaware Bay, with normally 8 to 9 days when the daily high remains below freezing, and snow averages only about 13 inches per year and does not usually remain on the ground for long. Campgrounds at Cape Henlopen, Killens Pond, Lums Pond and Trap Pond State Park are open year-round, so shoulder-season and off-season RV trips are possible.

Terrain in this part of Delaware is flat, with pine and hardwood woods around ponds and slow rivers. Sites at Killens Pond are wooded and shaded. The campground offers shaded campsites with level dirt pads, water and electric hookups, and fire rings, with several loops of well-spaced sites and a primitive camping area, and facilities include clean bathhouses with free hot showers and potable water stations. Private resorts run differently. Jellystone at Delaware Beaches is a flat, open, family-focused park with a symmetrical layout and limited natural shade. Expect organized kids' programming, paved roads, and full hookups. Pets are permitted in Delaware State Park campgrounds but must be attended at all times, and are not allowed in most cabins or yurts except designated pet-friendly units. Cell service is generally good across Kent County. Mosquitoes and ticks are active from late spring into early fall.
