RV camping near Edgemoor, Delaware
Edgemoor sits on the Delaware River just north of Wilmington in New Castle County, placing RV travelers within a short drive of Brandywine Valley parks, Wilmington's museums, and the Philadelphia metro. The town itself is industrial and residential, so most RV camping happens at private parks in the surrounding countryside or across the state line in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
Camp Country Center and Four Seasons Campgrounds offer nearby options on the Delaware side, while Philadelphia South / Clarksboro KOA Holiday and Adventure Bound Tall Pines sit across the Delaware River in southern New Jersey. Philadelphia / West Chester KOA Holiday covers the Pennsylvania side for travelers heading toward Longwood Gardens or Valley Forge.
Delaware's own state park system, run by the Division of Parks and Recreation, anchors longer stays. Lums Pond State Park near Bear is the closest full-service state campground to Edgemoor and works well as a base for exploring the region.
Things to do near Edgemoor
Brandywine Creek State Park, Alapocas Run State Park, and White Clay Creek State Park all sit within a short drive and offer hiking, paddling, and picnic areas suited to day trips from a campsite. Wilmington adds the Brandywine Zoo, riverfront trails, and the Delaware Art Museum for rainy afternoons.
Families staying at Camp Country Center or Four Seasons Campgrounds are close to Longwood Gardens, the Winterthur estate, and the Hagley Museum along the Brandywine. Lums Pond State Park offers fishing, boat rentals, disc golf, and the Go Ape zip line and treetop course.
For bigger-city trips, Philadelphia is roughly a half-hour drive from campgrounds on the New Jersey or Pennsylvania side, making Independence Hall, the Philadelphia Zoo, and the Franklin Institute realistic day trips from Philadelphia South / Clarksboro KOA Holiday or Philadelphia / West Chester KOA Holiday.

Summer weather is warm and humid, with afternoon thunderstorms common and heat indices climbing into the 90s during July and August. Reserving several weeks ahead is advisable for holiday weekends.
Spring and fall are the most comfortable seasons for camping. April through early June brings blooming gardens across the Brandywine Valley, while September and October deliver cooler nights and fall color through the surrounding hardwood forests. Bug pressure is lower in the shoulder seasons.
Winter camping is limited. Most private parks in the area close or reduce services from late fall through March, though Lums Pond State Park remains open year-round for self-contained RVs. Nor'easters and occasional snow can affect travel between December and February.

How to book campsites near Edgemoor
Delaware State Parks campsites, including Lums Pond, are reserved through the state's centralized online portal, which is operated on the ReserveAmerica platform. Reservations may be made up to one year in advance of the arrival date, with same-day booking available for tent and RV sites. Cottages, cabins, and yurts must be reserved at least one day before arrival.
Private campgrounds such as Camp Country Center, Four Seasons Campgrounds, and the KOA properties on the Pennsylvania and New Jersey sides accept direct bookings through their own websites or the KOA reservation system. For summer weekends and holidays, booking two to three months out is typical.
An 18-day change freeze applies to new Delaware State Parks reservations, starting the day the reservation is created, so pick dates carefully. Rates differ for Delaware residents and non-residents.
What to expect at area campgrounds
Sites near Edgemoor range from wooded state park loops to full-service private resorts. Lums Pond State Park offers renovated sites with three-point hookups (water, electric, and sewer), 30- or 50-amp service, and pads that accommodate rigs up to about 50 feet. Each site includes a picnic table and fire ring, and camping is permitted for a maximum of 14 days within a 21-day period.
Private parks such as Philadelphia South / Clarksboro KOA Holiday, Philadelphia / West Chester KOA Holiday, and Adventure Bound Tall Pines typically add pools, playgrounds, Wi-Fi, camp stores, and family activities. Camp Country Center is a smaller, quieter option focused on tent and basic camping.
Expect humid conditions in summer, mosquitos near ponds and wetlands at dusk, and mixed cellular coverage in more wooded loops.

Travel trailers typically start around $90 to $150 per night, Class C motorhomes run roughly $150 to $230, and larger Class A motorhomes sit closer to $200 to $325 per night. rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Edgemoor%2C%20DelawareDo I need a special license to rent an RV in Delaware?
Good news: a regular Delaware Class D driver's license (or its equivalent from your home state or country) is all you need to rent an RV in Edgemoor. A standard non-commercial license covers virtually every motorhome, campervan, and travel trailer available on RVezy. You will also need to be at least 25 years old to be an approved driver, and ID verification is handled quickly through the RVezy platform when you book. Visiting from outside the U.S.? Bring your home license plus an International Driving Permit and you are set for an easy Edgemoor RV trip.

Every RVezy booking comes with a built-in renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can hit the road in Delaware with real peace of mind. The protection plan covers most damage to the vehicle during your trip, and you choose your preferred coverage level during checkout (not the host). help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat happens if I need to cancel my Edgemoor RV rental?
Booking is low-risk: RVezy (not the host) sets the cancellation policy for every reservation, and there is a money-back grace period right after you book so you can lock in dates with confidence. The exact refund amount depends on how far ahead of your trip you cancel, and special circumstances like severe weather or natural disasters are taken into account, which matters in Delaware where occasional nor'easters or hurricane remnants can affect plans. The policy is standardized across all listings. Pro tip: book early to secure the best Edgemoor RVs, then relax knowing flexibility is built in.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on an RV rental in Edgemoor?
Absolutely, pets are welcome on plenty of Edgemoor rentals. Use the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy to instantly see hosts who allow dogs (some allow cats too), then message them with any specifics like breed or size. For a pet-friendly RV rental Edgemoor families love, Lums Pond State Park in nearby Bear is a winner: it has an off-leash dog park, miles of wooded trails, and pets are allowed at designated campsites. Brandywine Creek State Park and White Clay Creek State Park also welcome leashed dogs on their trail systems. Pro tip: pack a long tie-out leash, a collapsible water bowl, and proof of rabies vaccination, which some campgrounds ask to see at check-in.
destateparks.com/lumspondCan the RV be delivered to my campsite or driveway in Edgemoor?
Yes, RV delivery Edgemoor is one of the easiest ways to start your trip, especially if you are a first-time renter or do not want to drive a large rig through the Wilmington area. Many RVezy hosts will deliver the motorhome or travel trailer directly to your driveway, a local campground like Lums Pond State Park (about 20 minutes south), or another address you choose, then set it up, level it, hook up utilities, and walk you through every system. Filter by Delivery on RVezy to see hosts offering this service, and check each listing for delivery radius and per-mile fees. Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm delivery to your specific campsite loop.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Edgemoor%2C%20DelawareHow far can I travel from Edgemoor on an RV road trip?
Edgemoor sits in a sweet spot for an RV road trip from Edgemoor: you are roughly 30 minutes from Philadelphia, 90 minutes from Baltimore, about 2 hours from Washington, DC, and only 2 to 2.5 hours from Ocean City, MD or the Delaware beaches at Rehoboth and Lewes. Heading north, the Pocono Mountains are about 2.5 hours, and Shenandoah National Park is roughly 3.5 hours west. Mileage policies are set by each host (commonly 100 to 150 free miles per day, with some offering unlimited mileage), so check the listing details. Pro tip: if you are planning a long loop, filter for RV rental with unlimited mileage to save on overage fees.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Edgemoor%2C%20DelawareWhere are the best campgrounds near Edgemoor, DE?
You are spoiled for choice on RV camping Edgemoor options. The best campgrounds near Edgemoor include Lums Pond State Park in Bear (about 20 minutes south, with full-hookup and electric sites), Killens Pond State Park in Felton (about an hour south, with a water park), and White Clay Creek State Park near Newark for hiking access. Brandywine Creek State Park is great for day use but does not offer RV camping. Just over the line, Philadelphia / West Chester KOA in Pennsylvania is another popular pick. Delaware State Park campsites can be booked online up to a year in advance. Pro tip: Lums Pond fills fast on summer weekends, so reserve as early as possible.
destateparks.com/CampingWhen is the best time to take an Edgemoor RV trip?
Late April through mid-October is prime time for RV rental in Edgemoor, but the real sweet spots are May, June, September, and October. Summer highs sit around 85 to 88 degrees Fahrenheit with humidity, while spring and fall deliver comfortable 60s to mid-70s and stunning Brandywine Valley foliage. Winters get chilly with January lows around 25 degrees, so most renters target the warmer months. That said, Lums Pond State Park camping is seasonal, typically open March through November, so plan shoulder-season trips accordingly. Pro tip: book a fall trip in mid-October for peak foliage along the Brandywine and lower nightly rates than midsummer.
weather.gov/phi/I've never rented an RV before. How will I know what I'm doing?
First time renting an RV? You are going to be fine. Every RVezy host gives you a thorough walkthrough at pickup (or at your delivery location), showing you how to operate the generator, slide-outs, water system, propane, awning, and dump valves. Hosts in the Edgemoor area are used to working with first-timers visiting the Brandywine Valley or heading to the Delaware beaches, and they will answer questions by message before you ever leave home. You can also choose a smaller Class C motorhome or travel trailer to keep driving stress low. Pro tip: ask your host to record a quick video walkthrough on your phone so you can replay it at the campground.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039132053-What-to-expect-at-pickupWhat if something goes wrong with the RV during my trip?
Take a breath: every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, so help is just a phone call away whether you are in Edgemoor, on I-95 heading south, or tucked into a Lums Pond campsite. Roadside covers things like flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, and towing. RVezy's customer support team is also available before, during, and after your trip if you have questions. Your host is usually your fastest resource for quirks specific to their RV (like a finicky water pump), so save their number in your phone. Pro tip: snap photos of all gauges and connections at pickup so you have a baseline if anything seems off later.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Edgemoor RV rental across state lines or into Canada?
Yes, interstate travel is welcome and easy for an RV rental Delaware guests book through RVezy. Most hosts are completely fine with trips through Pennsylvania, Maryland, New Jersey, Virginia, and beyond, and your protection plan travels with you. Cross-border travel into Canada may be allowed depending on the specific host and insurance, so message them directly before booking to confirm. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because insurance coverage does not extend there. Popular interstate routes from Edgemoor include the Delaware Bay loop to Cape May, NJ via the Cape May-Lewes Ferry, Skyline Drive through Virginia, and the Outer Banks of North Carolina (about 6 hours south).
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat kind of fuel mileage should I budget for in Delaware?
Plan smart and you will keep fuel costs manageable. Class B campervans average 18 to 22 miles per gallon (mpg), Class C motorhomes get roughly 10 to 14 mpg, and large Class A coaches sit closer to 7 to 10 mpg. Towables do not burn fuel directly, but your tow vehicle's mpg will drop noticeably. Delaware gas prices typically run slightly below the national average thanks to lower state fuel taxes, and you will find plenty of large-vehicle-friendly stations along I-95, US-13, and Route 1. Pro tip: top off in Delaware before crossing into Pennsylvania or New Jersey, where prices are often higher.
deldot.gov/How far in advance should I book a campground near Edgemoor?
For the best sites, book your campground as soon as your RV is reserved. Delaware State Parks accept reservations up to one year in advance through their online reservation system, and popular spots like Lums Pond, Cape Henlopen, and Trap Pond fill fast for summer weekends, holidays, and fall foliage weekends in October. For midweek stays or shoulder season, 2 to 4 weeks ahead is usually fine. Pro tip: if your first-choice site is taken, keep checking back. Cancellations open up regularly, especially within a week of arrival.
destateparks.com/CampingWhat are local driving conditions like around Edgemoor?
Edgemoor sits right off I-95 in northern Delaware, so expect typical mid-Atlantic conditions: well-maintained interstates, occasional rush-hour congestion between Wilmington and Philadelphia (roughly 7 to 9 a.m. and 4 to 6 p.m.), and a few low bridges and narrow streets in historic downtown Wilmington and New Castle that are not friendly to tall RVs. The Delaware Memorial Bridge and the I-95 corridor are RV-friendly and tolled, so keep an E-ZPass or cash handy. Winter brings occasional snow and ice from December through February. Pro tip: skip driving through Center City Wilmington and take I-495 around the city instead. It is faster and far less stressful for a first-time motorhome driver.
deldot.gov/What amenities and hookups will I find at campgrounds near Edgemoor?
You will find solid infrastructure at Delaware campgrounds. Lums Pond State Park's renovated campground offers full hookups (water, electric, and sewer) at many sites, plus a dump station, clean bathhouses with free showers, a laundry building, and a camp store. Cape Henlopen and Trap Pond also offer electric and water sites with shared dump stations. Note that outside firewood is not allowed in Delaware State Parks due to invasive pest quarantines, so plan to buy firewood on-site. Generator use is restricted at several parks, so check the rules for your specific campground. Pro tip: fill your fresh water tank before arrival in March or November when frost-free spigots are limited at some parks.
destateparks.com/CampingWhat's typically included inside an RV rental in Edgemoor?
Most Edgemoor RVs come ready to camp. Expect a queen or full bed plus bunks or convertible dinettes, a kitchen with stove, microwave, fridge, and sink, a bathroom with toilet and shower, climate control with roof AC and furnace, dining seating with seatbelts for travel, and 12-volt and 110-volt outlets. Many also include a TV, a generator or solar setup, an outdoor awning, and a propane grill. Wi-Fi varies (most rely on cellular hotspots) and cellular coverage is generally solid at Lums Pond. Hosts usually provide a starter kit with cookware, linens, and a sewer hose. Pro tip: review the listing's amenity list carefully and message the host to confirm anything specific like a coffee maker or pack-and-play.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Edgemoor%2C%20DelawareWhat add-ons can I get with my campervan rental Edgemoor?
Hosts on RVezy offer all kinds of extras to customize your campervan rental Edgemoor or motorhome trip. Common add-ons include camp chairs, outdoor tables, propane refills, generator hours, linen and bedding packages, bike racks, kayaks or stand-up paddleboards (perfect for Lums Pond), portable grills, kid gear, and pet kits. Many hosts also offer delivery and pickup for a flat fee or per-mile rate. Mileage policies vary, with common allowances around 100 to 150 free miles per day. Pro tip: bundle add-ons when you book to save on individual fees, and confirm pickup and dropoff times with your host so there is no rush, especially if you are returning after a weekend at the Delaware beaches.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Edgemoor%2C%20DelawareHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is simple and secure through the RVezy platform: you pay your booking total with a credit or debit card, and the funds are held by RVezy until your trip is underway, so the process is protected for both you and the host. A refundable security deposit is also placed as a hold on your card (the amount varies by RV and host) and is released after the trip provided there is no damage, excess mileage, or missing items. To avoid issues, take timestamped photos of the RV's interior, exterior, and dashboard mileage at both pickup and return. Pro tip: review the listing's mileage and generator policies before departure so you know exactly what is included.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksCan I park my RV overnight at rest areas or public lots in Delaware?
Short stops are allowed, but plan to camp at a real campground for the night. Delaware's I-95 Welcome Center near Newark (about 15 minutes from Edgemoor) and the Smyrna Rest Area on Route 1 allow short-term parking for travelers to rest, but overnight camping behavior (slide-outs, awnings, or outdoor chairs) is not permitted. For a true overnight, head to Lums Pond State Park (20 minutes south) or one of the area's private RV parks. Pro tip: the I-95 Welcome Center is a great spot to rest and refuel before continuing south to the beaches or north toward Philadelphia.
