Campgrounds near Felton, Delaware
Felton sits in central Kent County, roughly fifteen miles south of Dover and about forty-five miles from the Delaware beaches, making it a practical base for RV travellers exploring the state. Killens Pond State Park, centrally located in Kent County just outside Felton, is the closest developed campground and the anchor option for the area.
The wooded campground at Killens Pond is open year-round and offers 59 sites with electric and water hookups, plus 17 walk-in tent sites and 11 cabins with kitchens and bathrooms. Private options in the vicinity include G and R Recreation Campground and Holiday Park Campground, both drive-in RV parks used by travellers heading to or from the coast.
For those willing to drive a little farther, Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Park™ Camp-Resort: Delaware Beaches offers a family-oriented resort experience closer to the shore, and Martinak State Park across the Maryland line provides quiet riverfront camping on the Choptank.
Things to do around Felton
Killens Pond is built around a 66-acre millpond used for paddling and fishing, with a boat launch, canoe, kayak and pedal boat rentals in summer, a nature center, playgrounds, an 18-hole disc golf course, and a seasonal waterpark on site. The waterpark operates from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day and features tall slides, a main pool with zero-depth entry, and a tot pool.
Trails suit families. A paved bike path parallels the main access road, the Pondside Trail loops the water on an easy to moderate grade, and the Cross Country Trail winds through mature forest and crosses a bridge at the west end of the pond. Day trips reach the Delaware beaches, Dover attractions, and Martinak State Park on the Choptank for kayaking and birding.

Peak season runs Memorial Day through Labor Day. The Killens Pond waterpark operates only during that window, campground loops fill on weekends, and humidity is typically uncomfortable in July and August. Book several weeks ahead for holiday weekends at state parks and private resorts alike.
Spring and early fall are the most comfortable windows for RV camping. Mid-April through June and September through mid-October generally offer mild days and cool nights, with lower humidity than midsummer. August is the wettest month on average, driven by thunderstorms and occasional tropical moisture, so watch forecasts if paddling or beach trips are on the itinerary.
Winter camping is possible but limited. Killens Pond, along with Cape Henlopen, Lums Pond and Trap Pond, keeps its campground open year-round, and water hookups remain available through the cold months. Some private parks and the waterpark close for the season. Snowfall is light but possible from December through February.
How to book campgrounds near Felton
Delaware state park sites, including Killens Pond, are booked through the Delaware State Parks reservation system on Reserve America or the state call centre at 1-877-98-PARKS. Reservations may be made up to one year prior to arrival date, with the daily release timed to the call center opening so online users do not gain an earlier window. New reservations are subject to an 18-calendar-day change freeze that starts the day the booking is made.
Martinak State Park, just over the Maryland line, uses the Maryland State Parks reservation site at parkreservations.maryland.gov, with phone reservations also accepted through the Maryland DNR call centre.
Private options such as G and R Recreation Campground, Holiday Park Campground, and Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Park™ Camp-Resort: Delaware Beaches take reservations directly through their own websites or phone lines, with resort-style properties typically requiring deposits for peak weekends.
What to expect on arrival
Killens Pond has shaded campsites with level dirt pads, water and electric hookups, picnic tables, and fire rings, arranged in several loops of well-spaced sites plus a primitive walk-in area. Facilities include clean bathhouses with free hot showers, potable water stations, a dump station, and wheelbarrow-style carts to help move gear. Each campsite may host up to eight people, and only one vehicle per site is issued a free entry pass, with overflow parking near the registration booth.
Outside firewood is prohibited across Delaware State Parks to prevent invasive insect spread, and firewood is sold on site. Pets must be leashed and attended at all times, and they are not allowed in most cabins or at the waterpark.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Felton, DE
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Felton, Delaware?
RV rental in Felton is affordable compared to renting near the Delaware coast. Travel trailers typically run $90 to $160 per night, Class C motorhomes range from $175 to $275, and Class A motorhomes sit between $250 and $400. Because Felton is in central Kent County off Route 13, you are outside the premium Rehoboth and Lewes pricing zone, so you can often save on the same class of RV. For a cheap RV rental in Felton, book midweek in May or late September, choose a smaller travel trailer, and ask hosts about multi-night discounts. Bundling 5+ nights usually unlocks the best per-night rate, and many Felton hosts reduce cleaning fees for longer trips.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Felton,DelawareDo I need a special license to rent an RV in Felton, DE?
Good news, your regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Felton, DE. The Delaware Division of Motor Vehicles only requires a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) for vehicles over 26,000 pounds, and virtually every RV on RVezy, including Class A motorhomes, Class C motorhomes, campervans, fifth wheels, and travel trailers, comes in well under that threshold. You'll need to be 25 or older with a valid license, and RVezy verifies your ID securely through the platform during booking. Visiting from another country? Bring an International Driving Permit (IDP) along with your home license and you're set. Most first-time renters are surprised how straightforward it is.
dmv.de.gov/DriverServices/drivers_license/CDL/index.shtmlWhat protection is included when I rent an RV in Felton?
Every RV rental in Felton booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can hit Route 13 with peace of mind. The protection plan covers most damage to the vehicle, giving you meaningful financial protection without piecing together your own coverage. During checkout, you choose the protection level that fits your trip, not the host, so you stay in control of your coverage. While it is not traditional auto insurance, it is designed specifically for peer-to-peer RV rentals and handles the situations renters worry about most. You can review the available coverage tiers on RVezy before you book.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat happens if I need to cancel my Felton RV trip?
Booking is low-risk because RVezy, not the individual host, sets the cancellation policy for every rental in Felton. There is a money-back grace period after booking so you can lock in your dates, and refund eligibility scales based on how far out you are from your trip start date. If a host cancels on you, RVezy will issue a refund or travel credit so your trip plans stay protected. Because the policy applies platform-wide, you will not see different rules on different listings. Book early to secure a peak-summer RV for Killens Pond, then relax knowing the cancellation policy has your back.

Bring proof of rabies vaccination, a 6-foot leash, and waste bags. Killens Pond has a Pondside Nature Trail that is perfect for morning walks with your pup. Message the host before booking to confirm any pet fee and ask about their favorite local dog-friendly spots, many Felton hosts are dog owners themselves.
destateparks.com/petsCan the RV be delivered to my campground or rental property in Felton?
Yes, RV delivery in Felton is one of the most popular options on RVezy, and it is a game-changer if you are new to RVing. Many local hosts will tow or drive your motorhome rental in Felton directly to Killens Pond State Park or your driveway, then level it, hook up water, sewer, and 30/50-amp shore power, and walk you through every system. That means zero stress about backing into a tight site or learning to tow on Route 13. Use the Delivery filter to see hosts offering this service. Delivery fees are set per host and usually scale with mileage, so booking a host based in Felton, Dover, or Harrington keeps costs low.

weather.gov/phi/I have never rented an RV before, will I be okay driving one around Felton?

Central Delaware is flat, the roads are wide, and Route 13 (the main north-south corridor) is a straightforward divided highway. You can also message the host any time during your trip, and 24/7 roadside assistance is included with every booking. Do a quick practice loop through a large empty lot, such as near the Delaware State Fairgrounds in Harrington, before heading to the campground.

nps.gov/asis/planyourvisit/directions.htmHow much should I budget for fuel on a Felton RV trip?
Fuel is one of the more predictable parts of your budget. Class B campervans get 18-22 MPG, Class C motorhomes average 10-14 MPG, Class A rigs get 7-10 MPG, and trucks pulling travel trailers land around 10-13 MPG. Delaware gas prices typically run a few cents below the national average, and you'll find dependable fuel stops at the Wawa and Royal Farms locations along Route 13 in Felton, Harrington, and Dover. For a typical 200-mile weekend loop to Rehoboth and back, expect $50-$90 in fuel for a Class C. Pro tip: GasBuddy consistently shows Royal Farms as the cheapest fill-up around Felton, and they have diesel pumps tall enough for big motorhomes.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Felton?
Booking ahead is the single best move you can make. Delaware State Parks open their reservation window through the official Reserve Delaware State Parks portal. For Killens Pond, the closest campground to Felton, summer weekends and holidays often book out 4 to 6 months ahead, while shoulder-season midweek sites are often available closer to your travel date. Private parks like Tall Pines Harbor and Sun Outdoors Rehoboth Bay use their own websites and tend to fill 2 to 3 months in advance for July and August. Lock in your RV on RVezy as soon as your campground is confirmed so you have the best selection.
destateparks.com/know-before-you-go/camping/What are driving conditions like around Felton?
Driving around Felton is refreshingly stress-free. Central Delaware is flat farmland with no mountains, no tunnels for tall vehicles, and minimal traffic outside the Dover and Wilmington corridors. Route 13 and Route 1 are the main arteries, both well-maintained divided highways comfortable for any size RV. Watch for slow-moving farm equipment in spring and fall on county roads, and plan around summer beach weekends when Route 1 to Rehoboth backs up Friday afternoons and Sunday evenings. Sudden afternoon thunderstorms pop up in July and August, just pull off safely and wait them out. Check DelDOT's real-time traffic map before heading out on busy weekends.
