Campgrounds and RV parks near Frederica, DE

Killens Pond State Park offers hiking, fishing, boating, canoeing, swimming, disc golf, geocaching, and nature programs, plus a seasonal waterpark that draws families on hot afternoons. Boat rentals on the millpond and shaded trails through the surrounding hardwood forest suit slower-paced days. The Atlantic beaches at Rehoboth, Dewey, and Lewes are within a thirty to forty-five minute drive, along with Cape Henlopen State Park and the Cape May-Lewes Ferry. Prime Hook National Wildlife Refuge, on Delaware Bay, is closer still and popular for birding and paddling. At Jellystone Park Delaware Beaches, on-site amenities typically include a splash pad, waterslides, an arcade, a playground, a jumping pillow, and themed weekends, which keep younger kids busy without leaving the campground.

Peak RV season on the Delaware coast runs Memorial Day through Labor Day, when beach traffic is heavy and family-oriented parks book out weeks or months in advance. Weekends in July and August at Jellystone and the beach-adjacent state parks typically require early planning. Weekday arrivals are easier and shoulder rates apply at most private parks. Spring and fall bring milder temperatures, lighter crowds, and better fishing on the ponds and tidal creeks. Fall is also Atlantic hurricane season, which can occasionally close beaches or force early departures; watch National Hurricane Center advisories from August through October. Winter camping is limited but possible. Several Delaware State Park campgrounds, including Killens Pond, remain open year-round, though services are reduced in the cold months. Many private campgrounds in the area close from early November until late March, so confirm dates directly with the operator before planning an off-season trip.

Sites at Killens Pond are wooded and family-oriented, with level pads, water and electric hookups, and fire rings. Loops of well-spaced sites sit under mature hardwoods, and bathhouses with hot showers serve the campground. Firewood and ice are typically available at the campground registration area. Check expected rig length before booking, as some older loops accommodate smaller trailers more comfortably than large fifth wheels. Kent County terrain is flat, so leveling is usually straightforward. Delaware State Park campgrounds are family campgrounds; group camping is prohibited in the family loops, and individuals are limited to two sites at any time. Quiet hours, leashed-pet rules, and a licensed-driver requirement for anyone operating a vehicle on park roads apply throughout the system.
