Camping near Lincoln, Delaware
Lincoln sits in central Sussex County, Delaware, roughly a fifteen-minute drive from the Cape Region beaches and within easy reach of Milford, Georgetown, and the Route 1 corridor. That position makes it a practical base for RV travelers splitting time between inland woodlands and the Atlantic coast, with grocery stores, dump stations, and fuel available along Route 1 and Route 113.
Campground options in the area range from full-service resort parks to state land with hookup loops and primitive tent areas. Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park™ Camp-Resort: Delaware Beaches, G and R Recreation Campground, and Deep Branch Family Campground handle most RV traffic with full hookups and family amenities. Killens Pond State Park is open year-round and offers 59 sites with electric and water hookups plus a walk-in primitive loop with 17 tent-only sites, along with family cabins, sitting about twenty minutes north near Felton.
For tent campers with smaller vehicles, primitive-style camping is available 365 days a year at Redden State Forest north of Georgetown, though state forests only allow tent camping and exclude pickup campers, travel trailers, and self-propelled motor homes.
Things to do around Lincoln
The area balances woodland recreation with easy beach access. Killens Pond is the main draw for on-water activity: kayak, canoe, and pedal boat rentals are available at the boat dock, and the seasonal Killens Pond Water Park includes pools and slides for a separate admission fee. Trails loop the 66-acre pond and pass through hardwood stands popular with birders.
Redden State Forest offers quieter recreation on the inland side. It is Delaware's largest state forest at nearly 13,000 acres and includes 44 miles of trails across multiple tracts for hiking, biking, and bird watching. Hunting is permitted seasonally, so orange gear is a good idea in fall.
For beach days, Cape Henlopen, Delaware Seashore, and the boardwalks at Rehoboth and Lewes are all within a thirty- to forty-minute drive, making day trips from a Lincoln-area basecamp straightforward.

Summer is peak season across Sussex County. Beach traffic, family reservations, and holiday weekends push private resorts and state park loops to full capacity, and midweek arrivals fare better than Fridays. Water park operations at Killens Pond and pool amenities at private parks run on summer schedules only.
Spring and fall are the sweet spots for RV travel: mild temperatures, thinner crowds, and open bathhouses. Bathhouses at Killens Pond are open year-round for registered campers, which makes cool-weather trips workable. Fall also brings deer and small-game hunting seasons in the state forest, so campers at Redden should check posted dates and wear high-visibility clothing off-trail.
Winter camping is limited but available. Campgrounds at Cape Henlopen, Killens Pond, Lums Pond, and Trap Pond State Park are open year-round, and primitive camping at Redden State Forest runs 365 days a year. Private resorts near the beaches typically reduce services or close portions of their loops between late fall and early spring, so confirm operating status before booking.
How to book
Delaware State Parks handles Killens Pond bookings through its central reservation system. Reservations may be made up to one year prior to the arrival date, online or through the call center, and same-day reservations are possible for tent and RV sites when space allows. Booking well ahead is recommended for peak-season weekends.
State forest sites use a separate portal. Online reservations for Blackbird and Redden state forests can be made at de.gov/forestcamping, with a three-night maximum stay per reservation. Keep in mind that travel trailers, pickup campers, and self-propelled motor homes are not permitted at Redden.
For Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park™ Camp-Resort: Delaware Beaches, G and R Recreation Campground, and Deep Branch Family Campground, book directly through each operator's website. Summer weekends often sell out weeks ahead, and holiday windows around Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Labor Day commonly require multi-night minimums.
What to expect on the ground
Sites in this part of Delaware sit on flat, sandy ground under loblolly pine and mixed hardwood. Shade varies by loop. Cell service is generally reliable across carriers, and most private resorts offer Wi-Fi near their clubhouses.
At Killens Pond, expect a family atmosphere: Delaware State Park campgrounds are family campgrounds by definition, and group camping is prohibited. Alcohol consumption is generally prohibited in Delaware State Parks, with few exceptions. Wood and ice are sold at the campground registration booth, and firewood should be purchased on site to prevent moving invasive pests.
Redden is a different experience. Amenities are limited to on-site parking, picnic tables, fire rings, BBQ grills, and portable toilets, with no showers or bath facilities. Bring everything self-contained, plan for insects in warmer months, and expect occasional road or train noise at sites nearer the perimeter.
