Ranier is a small border village on the shore of Rainy Lake in northern Minnesota, roughly two miles east of International Falls and directly adjacent to the Rainy Lake entrance of Voyageurs National Park. The park spans 218,054 acres, and roughly 40 percent of that acreage is water, taking in four large lakes (Rainy, Kabetogama, Namakan, and Sand Point) along with many smaller interior lakes on the Kabetogama Peninsula. That water-first geography shapes camping in the area: all overnight sites inside the park and most day-use sites are accessible only by boat, so RV travelers stay at private and public campgrounds on the mainland and use Ranier as a launching point.
