Campgrounds and RV parks near Barnegat Light, NJ

Barnegat Light sits at the northern tip of Long Beach Island, an 18-mile barrier island on the New Jersey coast. The borough itself does not allow overnight camping, and camping of any kind is not permitted at Barnegat Lighthouse State Park. RV travelers instead base themselves at private campgrounds on the mainland side of the causeway and drive onto the island for the day. Cedar Creek Campground and Canoe Rent lies to the north near Bayville, while Sun Retreats Long Beach Island sits just off Route 72 in Barnegat, roughly 10 miles from the beaches, and offers over 225 sites with water hookups, grills, campfire rings, and picnic tables. Sea Pirate Campground and Bakers Acres Campgrounds are both within a short drive in West Creek and Little Egg Harbor, along with Atlantic Shore Pines Campground further south. Most of these parks sit in the New Jersey Pine Barrens region, giving RVers a wooded, inland base with quick access to the ocean, Barnegat Bay, and the Barnegat Inlet.

There are no public campgrounds on Long Beach Island itself, so bookings go through private operators rather than a state reservation portal. Sun Retreats Long Beach Island, Sea Pirate Campground, Bakers Acres Campgrounds, Atlantic Shore Pines Campground, and Cedar Creek Campground and Canoe Rent each take reservations directly through their own websites, with some also listed on third-party platforms such as Campspot and Good Sam. For state-park camping elsewhere in New Jersey, the official portal is New Jersey Outdoors at camping.nj.gov, which accepts reservations up to 11 months in advance, with a two-night minimum and a 14-night maximum stay. Book well in advance for July, August, and any summer weekend. Waterfront and full-hookup sites are the first to fill, often months ahead.
