Campgrounds and RV parks near Dover Beaches South, NJ

Dover Beaches South sits on the Barnegat Peninsula in Ocean County, New Jersey, with the Atlantic beaches on one side and Barnegat Bay on the other. RV travelers use it as a base for classic Jersey Shore trips: swimming, boardwalks, seafood, and quick access to state forests inland. Most campgrounds sit a short drive west or north of the barrier island, because the peninsula itself is densely developed and does not host RV parks. Options in the surrounding area range from state park camping to full-hookup private resorts. Allaire State Park is known for its historic 19th-century iron-making town, Allaire Village, and the Pine Creek Railroad, a narrow-gauge train ride, and the Manasquan River runs through the park. Tip Tam Camping Resort, Butterfly Camping Resort, and Pine Cone Campgrounds cluster inland near Jackson and Freehold, within a short drive of Six Flags Great Adventure and the shore. Cedar Creek Campground and Canoe Rent offers paddling access to the Pine Barrens waterways. Expect coastal pine-oak forest, sandy soils, and mosquitoes in warm months. Sites range from primitive tent pads to full-hookup pull-throughs suitable for larger motorhomes.

State park sites are reserved through New Jersey's central system. Online reservations can be made at camping.nj.gov, or by phone through the park office at 732-938-2371. Online reservations can be made up to 11 months in advance, and campsites and especially shelters book up fast for summer and holiday weekends, so booking at least three months in advance is wise. Private resorts like Tip Tam, Butterfly, Pine Cone, and Cedar Creek book directly through their own websites or by phone, and many hold sites for seasonal campers, which reduces nightly inventory in summer. Day passes are required for all vehicles at New Jersey State Parks, and campsite booking fees also apply. Weekend and holiday minimum stays of two or three nights are common in peak season.
