Campgrounds near Egg Harbor City
Egg Harbor City sits in Atlantic County in the heart of the New Jersey Pine Barrens, roughly a half-hour drive from Atlantic City's beaches and boardwalk. The location gives RV travelers a compact base with pine-forest campgrounds on one side and shore attractions on the other, and it puts several distinct camping styles within easy reach.
Options close to town range from full-hookup private parks to primitive state-forest sites. Egg Harbor City Lake and Campground is a wooded campground in the NJ Pine Barrens with a large lake for swimming or fishing, and most campsites have water and electric, with a dump station available at checkout. Holly Acres Campground offers wooded sites with full-service, pull-through options, a pool, camp store, and fishing pond.
For rustic camping deeper in the Pinelands, Wharton State Forest is the anchor. Encompassing over 124,000 acres, Wharton State Forest is the largest single tract of land within the New Jersey State Park System. Buttonwood Hill is one of its primitive backcountry areas. Pomona RV Park and Campground and Atlantic City Blueberry Hill RV Park Morgan RV Resorts extend options closer to the shore corridor for travelers who want quick access to Atlantic City nightlife.
Things to do near Egg Harbor City
The Pine Barrens dominate the outdoor menu. Rivers and streams suitable for kayaking and canoeing can be found throughout Wharton State Forest, along with hiking trails including a major section of the Batona Trail and unpaved roads for mountain biking and horseback riding. Hikers can take the 50-mile Batona Trail that connects Bass River, Wharton, and Brendan T. Byrne State Forests, passing through classic Pinelands scenery.
History sits inside the forest too. Batsto Village, preserved within Wharton State Forest, supplied the Continental Army with iron goods and munitions during the Revolutionary War. More than thirty of its nineteenth-century buildings survive, including the fully furnished Batsto Mansion. Guided tours of Batsto Mansion are available throughout the year.
Families can swim and paddle at Egg Harbor City Lake, and the Atlantic City boardwalk, Ocean City beaches, and Storybook Land amusement park are all short drives from most campgrounds.

Peak season runs late spring through early fall. Egg Harbor City Lake and Campground operates on a summer schedule, typically from Mother's Day weekend in May through late September, and Holly Acres and most private Pine Barrens parks follow a similar calendar. Late May through Labor Day is when family amenities, pools, and camp stores are fully active, and July and August weekends fill quickly thanks to shore-corridor demand.
Wharton State Forest offers more year-round flexibility. The Atsion trailer sanitary station and campsites are open all year, and Godfrey Bridge is also available year-round. Buttonwood Hill is open year round, and campers report using it in spring, summer, and fall without issue. Because it is primitive with a pit toilet and no on-site potable water, shoulder-season stays require full self-sufficiency in an RV.
Summer weekends also carry a tropical-weather watch. The Atlantic hurricane season runs from June through November, with peak activity for the Mid-Atlantic coast from August into October, so watch coastal storm forecasts when booking late-summer trips.

How to book a campsite
Private parks in and around Egg Harbor City take direct reservations through their own websites and offices. Egg Harbor City Lake and Campground, Holly Acres Campground, Pomona RV Park and Campground, and Atlantic City Blueberry Hill RV Park Morgan RV Resorts all book directly, and full-hookup, pull-through sites are the first to go on holiday weekends, so contact each park early for July and August stays.
Wharton State Forest sites, including Buttonwood Hill, go through the state system. Online reservations can be made at camping.nj.gov. A NJ Campground Reservation account lets travelers manage bookings and check site status. Size is the key limiter inside the forest: RVs longer than 22 feet will have a hard time accessing the campgrounds, so larger rigs should target private parks near town instead.
What to expect on-site
Expect sandy, pine-shaded sites typical of the Pinelands. Private parks in the Egg Harbor City area generally offer water, 30- or 50-amp electric, and dump stations, with pools, playgrounds, and camp stores on-property. Most campsites at Egg Harbor City Lake and Campground have water and electric, with a dump station at checkout, and the adjacent town park adds a guarded swimming beach, playground, and mini golf.
State-forest campgrounds are noticeably more rustic. Buttonwood Hill has picnic tables, fire rings, and one pit toilet, and there is no water at the campsite itself. Other primitive sites in Wharton, including Lower Forge and Mullica River, are similarly bare-bones.
Cell service can be spotty deep in the Pine Barrens, so download maps and reservation confirmations before arrival. Ticks and mosquitoes are active from spring through fall, so pack repellent.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Egg Harbor City, NJ
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Egg Harbor City, NJ?
An RV rental in Egg Harbor City typically runs about $125 to $225 per night for travel trailers, $175 to $275 for Class C motorhomes, and $250 or more for larger Class A rigs. Because Egg Harbor City sits in the Pine Barrens about 20 miles from Atlantic City, you can often find more competitive pricing here than near the casinos. For a cheap RV rental in Egg Harbor City, target mid-week pickups, book in the spring or fall shoulder season, and filter for travel trailers with delivery included. Many local hosts also offer weekly discounts of 10 to 20 percent, so a five-night Pine Barrens getaway can lower your effective nightly rate significantly.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Egg%20Harbor%20City%2C%20New%20JerseyDo I need a special license to rent an RV in Egg Harbor City?
A standard driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Egg Harbor City. New Jersey does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or any special endorsement for recreational vehicles used for personal travel, even larger Class A motorhomes. To rent on RVezy you must be an approved driver, generally 25 or older with a valid license, and RVezy verifies your ID through the platform during booking. Visiting from abroad? Bring an International Driving Permit (IDP) along with your home-country license. No road test or extra paperwork is required, so you are cleared to cruise the Pine Barrens.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat protection is included when I rent an RV in Egg Harbor City, NJ?
Every RVezy booking in New Jersey includes a renter protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can head out on the Garden State Parkway with confidence. The protection plan covers physical damage to the RV up to the plan limits, giving you peace of mind without buying a separate policy. During checkout you choose your protection level based on the coverage limits and deductible that suit your trip. This is a protection plan rather than traditional auto insurance, but for the vast majority of Pine Barrens and Jersey Shore trips it is exactly what renters need. Pick your level, complete the booking, and start planning your Atlantic City sunset cruise.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat happens if I need to cancel my Egg Harbor City RV trip?
Plans change, and RVezy applies a clear cancellation policy to every booking. The refund you receive depends on how far in advance of your trip you cancel, and the policy is shown to you during checkout so there are no surprises. Special circumstances, such as a host cancellation or a major weather event like a Jersey Shore nor'easter or hurricane, are handled separately and may qualify for a full refund or travel credit. Booking your Pine Barrens getaway through RVezy means you are protected by a consistent platform policy rather than terms that vary from host to host.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in Egg Harbor City?
Yes, plenty of Egg Harbor City RV rentals welcome dogs. Toggle the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy to see local hosts who allow pets, and message the host before booking to confirm any pet fees, typically $25 to $75. Once you are on the road, the Pine Barrens are a dog's dream: Wharton State Forest offers miles of sandy trails including sections of the Batona Trail, and Bass River State Forest near Tuckerton allows leashed pets at most campsites. Pro tip: bring a long lead and pack tick preventative, ticks are common in the Pine Barrens during the warm months.
nj.gov/dep/parksandforests/parks/whartonstateforest.htmlCan the RV be delivered to my campground in Egg Harbor City?
Yes, RV delivery in Egg Harbor City is one of the most popular options on RVezy, and it is perfect if it is your first time renting an RV. Many local hosts will drive the motorhome or travel trailer straight to your campground, level it, hook up power and water, and walk you through every system. Use the Delivery filter when searching, and check each listing for the delivery radius (most cover a 25 to 50 mile range around Egg Harbor City, easily reaching Atlantic City, Long Beach Island, and Cape May). You show up, unpack the cooler, and start your trip stress-free.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Egg%20Harbor%20City%2C%20New%20JerseyHow far can I drive on an Egg Harbor City RV trip?
Egg Harbor City is a great launchpad because much of the Mid-Atlantic is within easy driving range. Atlantic City and the boardwalk are about 20 miles south (roughly 30 minutes), Cape May beaches are about 50 miles (around 75 minutes), Long Beach Island sits about 30 miles east, Philadelphia is about 60 miles west, and the Delaware Water Gap is roughly 130 miles north. Each RVezy host sets their own mileage policy: many include 100 to 150 free miles per night, and some offer RV rental with unlimited mileage, which is ideal for a multi-stop Jersey Shore loop. Check the listing's mileage details before booking, and message the host if you are planning a longer route.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Egg%20Harbor%20City%2C%20New%20JerseyWhere are the best campgrounds near Egg Harbor City to park my RV?
You have great options close to town. Egg Harbor Lake Campground on Philadelphia Avenue is a town-area favorite with lake swimming and wooded RV sites. A short drive away, Bass River State Forest near Tuckerton offers state campsites around Lake Absegami, and Wharton State Forest's Atsion and Godfrey Bridge campgrounds provide true Pine Barrens immersion with rustic sites. Holly Acres RV Park in nearby Egg Harbor Township offers full hookups and is a popular base for Atlantic City trips. Pro tip: book lakeside and state park sites early for summer weekends, waterfront spots fill quickly after April.
nj.gov/dep/parksandforests/parks/bassriverstateforest.htmlWhen is the best time of year for an Egg Harbor City RV trip?
The sweet spot for RV camping in Egg Harbor City is late April through mid-October, with May, June, September, and early October being the prime months. Summer highs typically run in the mid-80s Fahrenheit with humid Pine Barrens nights in the upper 60s, while spring and fall stay in the comfortable 60 to 75 degree range with fewer mosquitoes and greenhead flies. Winters are chilly with highs in the 40s and lows around freezing, and most private campgrounds close from November through April. Insider tip: late September after Labor Day is magical, the Atlantic City crowds thin out, ocean temperatures are still warm, and campground rates drop noticeably.
weather.gov/phi/I've never driven an RV before. Will I be okay in Egg Harbor City?
You will do great, and Egg Harbor City is one of the friendlier places to learn. The roads around here, including Route 30 (the White Horse Pike), Route 542, and the Garden State Parkway, are flat, wide, and well-marked, with none of the mountain grades you would face out west. Every RVezy host gives you a full walkthrough at pickup covering driving tips, hookups, dumping, and the propane system, so you are never left guessing. Many first-time renters in Egg Harbor City choose delivery so they never have to drive the RV themselves. Pro tip: avoid the Atlantic City Expressway during Friday evening rush hour and you will find Pine Barrens driving genuinely relaxing.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat if something goes wrong with my RV during the trip?
You are never alone on the road. Every RVezy rental in Egg Harbor City includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, covering services like tire changes, lockouts, jump starts, and towing. If a slide-out sticks at your campsite or you have a flat tire on the Garden State Parkway, one phone call gets help dispatched. Your host is also a quick text away for any quirks specific to their RV, and RVezy customer support is reachable before, during, and after every trip. Pro tip: take photos of all hookups and the dashboard at pickup so you can text the host quickly if a warning light pops up.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Egg Harbor City RV rental to other states or into Canada?
Yes, an RV road trip from Egg Harbor City to neighboring states is one of the most popular ways to use your rental. You are free to cruise into Pennsylvania (Philadelphia is about 60 miles), Delaware (Rehoboth Beach is about 90 miles), New York (the Hudson Valley is about 130 miles), or further south toward Virginia, all covered under your protection plan. Travel into Canada may be allowed with prior host approval since insurance coverage can extend across the border, so always message the host through the listing first. One firm rule: travel into Mexico is not permitted on any RVezy rental because insurance does not extend there.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat kind of fuel economy and budget should I plan for?
Realistic numbers help you plan smart. Class B campervans get about 18 to 22 miles per gallon (MPG), Class C motorhomes average 8 to 12 MPG, and Class A coaches run 6 to 10 MPG. Travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle but figure 10 to 14 MPG combined. In New Jersey, a gas station attendant pumps your fuel for you by law, so there is no self-serve. For a typical 200-mile Pine Barrens to Cape May loop, budget roughly $60 to $120 in fuel depending on the rig and current prices. Pro tip: fill up at the Wawa on Route 30 before heading into Wharton State Forest, stations get sparse once you are deep in the Pinelands.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far ahead should I book campgrounds near Egg Harbor City?
For summer weekends from Memorial Day through Labor Day, book your campground 2 to 4 months out, especially for waterfront sites at Egg Harbor Lake Campground, Holly Acres, and Bass River State Forest. New Jersey state park sites such as Bass River and Wharton's Atsion and Godfrey Bridge are reserved through the New Jersey State Park Service reservation system on a rolling window. Private parks usually book directly through their own websites or by phone. Shoulder season in April, May, late September, and October is much easier, and you can often score a site a week ahead. Pro tip: if Atlantic City weekends are sold out, try Wednesday-to-Sunday stays, midweek sites are plentiful and rates are lower.
newjerseystateparks.reserveamerica.com/What are the local driving conditions like around Egg Harbor City?
Driving an RV around Egg Harbor City is refreshingly easy. The terrain is flat and close to sea level in the Pinelands, and major routes like the Atlantic City Expressway, Garden State Parkway, and Route 30 are wide, smooth, and RV-friendly. A few local notes: New Jersey limits vehicle height to 13 feet 6 inches, which clears most rentals comfortably, and you should confirm any trailer-towing restrictions for your specific route. Watch for sandy shoulders if you pull off in the Pine Barrens because deep sand can trap an RV. Summer afternoon thunderstorms can roll in fast and shore winds along the Atlantic City Expressway can be gusty, so slow down and you will be fine.
nj.gov/transportation/What amenities do campgrounds near Egg Harbor City offer, and where can I dump and fill water?
You will find solid infrastructure at most parks. Private parks such as Egg Harbor Lake Campground and Holly Acres in Egg Harbor Township typically offer full hookups (water, 30/50 amp electric, sewer), Wi-Fi, dump stations, and potable water fills. State campgrounds at Bass River and Wharton are more rustic, with most sites offering no hookups but providing a central dump station and water spigot. If you are boondocking and need to dump on your way out, several private parks offer dump access for a small fee, often around $10 to $20, even if you did not camp there. Pro tip: top off your fresh water tank before heading into Wharton State Forest, the Atsion and Godfrey Bridge sites have limited fill points.
nj.gov/dep/parksandforests/parks/whartonstateforest.htmlWhat's included inside a typical Egg Harbor City RV rental?
You will be pleasantly surprised how stocked these rigs are. A typical motorhome rental in Egg Harbor City comes with a full kitchen (fridge, stove, microwave, sink), a bathroom with shower and toilet, sleeping for 4 to 8 depending on layout, air conditioning, furnace heat, and seatbelted seating for travel. Many include a TV, Wi-Fi hotspots, outdoor speakers, and onboard generators for off-grid Pine Barrens nights. Linens, kitchenware, and camp chairs are often included as standard or available as add-ons, so check the listing. A campervan rental in Egg Harbor City keeps it simpler with a bed, mini-kitchen, and sometimes a cassette toilet. Pro tip: review the listing's amenities list and message the host about any specific must-haves like a coffee maker or pack-n-play.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Egg%20Harbor%20City%2C%20New%20JerseyWhat add-ons and pickup options should I expect on a motorhome rental in Egg Harbor City?
Hosts in Egg Harbor City make trip prep easy. Common add-ons include bedding and towel packages ($25 to $75), kitchen kits, camp chairs and outdoor rugs, bike racks, generators, propane refills, and pet packages. Many hosts offer delivery and setup at local campgrounds for a flat fee plus mileage, which is perfect if you do not want to drive. Pickup is typically at the host's home or an agreed meeting point near Route 30 or the Atlantic City Expressway. Mileage policies vary by listing: some offer unlimited mileage, while others include 100 to 150 free miles per night with overage fees around $0.30 to $0.50 per mile. Pro tip: bundle delivery, bedding, and a generator if you are heading to Wharton, it transforms the trip.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Egg%20Harbor%20City%2C%20New%20JerseyHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is simple and secure. When you book your RV rental in New Jersey through RVezy, you pay by credit card directly on the platform, with no cash and no host-side awkwardness. A security deposit is collected as a pre-authorization hold (not a charge) on your card before your trip begins, with the amount set by the host. The hold is released after your host confirms the RV came back in good condition, typically within a few days of trip end. To avoid issues: do a thorough walkaround video at pickup and dropoff, document any pre-existing dings, return the RV with the agreed fuel and propane levels, and dump the tanks if required.
