Campgrounds and RV parks near Lake Como, NJ

The beach is the main draw. Lake Como sits directly next to Belmar and Spring Lake, so mornings on the sand and evenings on the boardwalk are the default rhythm. Fishing, crabbing, and paddling are easy on the Shark River and Manasquan River inlets. Inland, Allaire State Park layers history onto the outdoors. Visitors can walk the restored Howell Works village, ride the Pine Creek Railroad, and use a wide trail network for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding, plus trout fishing on the Manasquan River. Turkey Swamp Park adds a 17-acre lake for fishing and rental canoes, kayaks, rowboats, and paddleboats, four playgrounds, and more than eight miles of multi-use trails through pitch pine and oak woods. Families staying at Tip Tam Camping Resort or Butterfly Camping Resort can also combine camp days with trips to Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson.

Camping season along this stretch of the Jersey Shore runs spring through late fall. Turkey Swamp Park's family campground is open April 1 through November 15, and the Nomoco Road group campground follows the same window. At Allaire State Park, group campsites operate April 1 through December 15, and the trailer sanitary station runs from mid-April through mid-October. Allaire's family campsites have been closed while a new bathroom and shower facility is built, so RV travelers should confirm status with the park before planning a stay there. Summer is peak. July and August bring warm, humid days with highs near 27°C, warm ocean water, and heavy beach-town traffic on weekends. Sites at both public parks and private resorts like Tip Tam Camping Resort and Butterfly Camping Resort fill weeks ahead for Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Labor Day. Shoulder seasons suit RV travelers well. May, June, September, and October deliver mild temperatures, lower humidity, and easier reservations. Late-season Nor'easters and tropical remnants can bring heavy rain and coastal flooding, mostly from August through October, so watching the forecast in early fall is worthwhile.

Sites near Lake Como are wooded and generally level, with sandy soil typical of the coastal plain. Turkey Swamp Park sites are pull-through with water and electric hookups and can accommodate motor homes up to 40 feet, which suits most Class C and travel-trailer rentals. Amenities include a dump station, drinking water, modern restrooms with hot showers, and laundry. Allaire's family sites are more rustic when open, with fire rings and picnic tables and no hookups. Black bears are present in New Jersey parks, so food should be stored inside the RV, and ticks are common in wooded areas from spring through fall. Cell service is generally usable, though patchy under heavy tree cover. Expect a family-resort atmosphere with pools, planned activities, and tighter site spacing at Tip Tam Camping Resort, Pine Cone Campgrounds, and Butterfly Camping Resort.
