Campgrounds near Leisuretowne
Leisuretowne sits in Burlington County, New Jersey, at the edge of the Pinelands National Reserve. RV travelers use it as a base for two very large state forests within a short drive: Brendan T. Byrne State Forest to the east and Wharton State Forest to the southeast. Both are part of the New Jersey State Park Service and together protect a broad expanse of the Pine Barrens ecosystem.
Brendan T. Byrne State Forest covers just over 38,000 acres and is the second largest state forest in New Jersey, located in the Pine Barrens. Wharton State Forest is much larger, covering roughly 122,000 acres of sandy terrain, pine forest, lakes, and rivers. Named campgrounds close to Leisuretowne include Atsion Recreational Area, Brendan T Byrne State Forest, Wharton State Forest - Hawkins Bridge, Wading Pines Camping Resort, and Wharton State Forest - Buttonwood Hill.
Options range from full-amenity family sites to primitive backcountry spots. Atsion has fifty tent and trailer sites with fire rings and picnic tables, with potable water, flush toilets, and showers within walking distance. Buttonwood Hill and Hawkins Bridge are far more rustic, and a private resort like Wading Pines Camping Resort fills the gap for RVs needing hookups.
Things to do near Leisuretowne
The Pine Barrens support hiking, mountain biking, paddling, fishing, and birding. Wharton State Forest offers trails for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding, plus rivers and lakes for canoeing, kayaking, and fishing. Swimming at Atsion Lake is permitted only when lifeguards are on duty, and the Atsion Recreation Area includes a beach complex with a changing area, restrooms, showers, a first-aid station, and a concession building.
Brendan T. Byrne State Forest has more than 25 miles of marked trails, ranging from long single-track hiking routes to a wheelchair-accessible path. The Batona Trail is designed for hiking, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing when weather permits. The Mount Misery Trail also allows mountain biking, and the Cranberry Trail permits wheelchair access. The Batona Trail is just under 50 miles long and links Brendan T. Byrne, Wharton, and Bass River State Forests.
Historic stops include Batsto Village in Wharton and Whitesbog Village in Byrne, both easy day trips from an RV base.

Summer is peak season. Swimming at Atsion Lake operates only when lifeguards are on duty, typically from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day. Weekends from late May through August book out weeks in advance, especially for lakeside sites at Atsion.
Shoulder seasons are quieter and comfortable for hiking, paddling, and birding. Spring brings warbler migration through the Pine Barrens, and fall foliage draws campers into October. Brendan T. Byrne campsites are open year-round unless otherwise posted, while Wading Pines Camping Resort operates seasonally from March through mid-November.
Winter camping at the state forests is possible but services thin out. The Atsion trailer sanitary station operates April 1 through October 31, and water at primitive Wharton sites can be shut off in freezing months. Campers should confirm current fire and burn regulations with the park office before arrival, and check any active advisories on the state camping portal.

How to book campgrounds near Leisuretowne
State forest sites in this area use the New Jersey State Park Service reservation system. Online reservations for Brendan T. Byrne can be made at camping.nj.gov, and the same portal handles Wharton State Forest sites including Atsion, Hawkins Bridge, and Buttonwood Hill. Reservations can be made up to 11 months in advance, and holiday weekends and lakeside sites at Atsion fill quickly.
Check-in for Atsion occurs at the Atsion Office rather than at the campground itself, and the office closes at 4 PM. Arriving after the office closes can mean waiting until the next morning to receive a permit, so plan drive time accordingly.
Wading Pines Camping Resort is a private RV park and books directly through the resort at wadingpines.com rather than through the state portal. It suits travelers who need full hookups, longer trailer accommodation, or amenities the state sites do not provide.
What to expect on the ground
The Pine Barrens are flat, sandy, and heavily wooded with pitch pine and oak. Atsion has fifty tent and trailer sites, with a stated maximum trailer length around 22 feet at Wharton state forest sites. Larger Class A and fifth-wheel RVs should verify site dimensions before booking a state forest site, or default to a private resort like Wading Pines, which accepts rigs up to about 60 feet with full hookups.
Amenities vary sharply by site. Primitive Wharton sites such as Buttonwood Hill and Hawkins Bridge offer no electric hookups, showers, or laundry, and some primitive locations have no potable water at all. Come self-sufficient on water, waste, and power at any state site.
Road conditions can become challenging after storms, with soft sand creating traction issues. Expect ticks in warm months, limited cell service in the interior, and quiet nights once the day-use crowds leave.

rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Leisuretowne%2C%20New%20JerseyWhat license do I need to rent an RV in Leisuretowne, NJ?
Great news: a standard New Jersey Class D driver's license (or your equivalent home-state or international license) is all you need to rent an RV in Leisuretowne. New Jersey does not require a CDL or any special endorsement for personal recreational vehicle use, even for larger Class A motorhomes. You'll also need to be at least 25 years old, which is the minimum age to rent on RVezy. ID verification is handled securely through the platform during booking, so there's no extra paperwork at pickup. Visiting from abroad? Bring an International Driving Permit alongside your home license and you're ready to roll into the Pine Barrens.
nj.gov/mvc/license/dlinfo.htmWhat protection and roadside coverage is included with my Leisuretowne RV rental?
Every RV rental in Leisuretowne booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance. The protection plan covers physical damage to the RV during your trip, giving you real financial peace of mind. You choose your coverage level during checkout, not the host, so you can pick what fits your comfort zone. If you get a flat on Route 70 heading to the Pine Barrens or need a jump-start at Wharton State Forest, one phone call gets help dispatched, day or night.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat is the cancellation policy if my Leisuretowne RV trip plans change?
Booking your Leisuretowne RV trip is low-risk because RVezy (not the individual host) sets and manages cancellation policies across every listing. There is a grace period after booking during which you can cancel for a full refund, and additional refund tiers apply depending on how far in advance of your trip you cancel. If a host cancels, RVezy issues a refund or travel credit so you can rebook. Review the full policy on the RVezy Help Center before you confirm your dates.

nj.gov/dep/parksandforests/park/wharton-state-forestCan I get an RV delivered to my campsite near Leisuretowne?

Many local hosts will drive the motorhome or travel trailer directly to your campsite at Wharton State Forest, a private park in Burlington County, or even your driveway in Southampton Township. Delivery fees usually run $2 to $5 per mile beyond a free radius, and it is the easiest way to skip driving a big rig on your first trip.

Top picks include Wharton State Forest (Atsion and Godfrey Bridge sections in the Pine Barrens with rustic sites and river access), Brendan T. Byrne State Forest in New Lisbon (close to town, great for trailer setups), Bass River State Forest (electric sites and a swimming lake about 30 minutes east), Timberlane Campground in Clarksboro (full hookups west of town), and Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park in Tabernacle (a family favorite just minutes away). All accept RVs, and the private parks offer 30/50-amp service, water, and dump stations.
nj.gov/dep/parksandforests/camping/index.htmlWhen is the best time of year for a Leisuretowne RV trip?
Late April through mid-October is prime season for an RV trip from Leisuretowne, with the sweet spots being May to June and September to early October when temperatures hover at a comfortable 65 to 80 degrees Fahrenheit and Pine Barrens mosquitoes ease off. July and August bring 85 to 90 degree heat and humidity (great for Jersey Shore beach days, plan to run the AC). Fall foliage in Wharton State Forest peaks in mid to late October. Winter rentals are quieter and cheaper, but many state campgrounds close seasonally, so check with your host about heated tanks and shore power if you are booking December through March.
weather.gov/phi/I have never rented an RV before. How does it work?
First time renting an RV? You will be in good hands. Every RVezy host gives a thorough orientation at pickup (typically 30 to 45 minutes) covering the generator, slide-outs, propane, water systems, and dump procedures, and you can message them anytime during your trip. Many Leisuretowne-area hosts also offer delivery and setup so you can skip driving on day one. The roads around Burlington County are flat, well-paved, and RV-friendly, making it an easy place to learn. Tip: book a shorter 3 to 4 night first trip to Wharton State Forest before tackling a longer route to Cape May or the Poconos.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat happens if I break down or have a problem on the road?
You are covered. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance, so if you blow a tire on the Atlantic City Expressway, lose battery power at Bass River State Forest, or need a tow off Route 206, one call gets professional help dispatched to your location. The renter protection plan handles most damage situations, and RVezy customer support is available before, during, and after your trip to help mediate anything that comes up with your host. Save the roadside number in your phone before pulling out of the driveway and you will have reliable backup throughout your trip.
rvezy.com/insurance-and-protectionCan I take my Leisuretowne RV rental across state lines or into Canada?
Yes, interstate travel is welcome on most RVezy rentals from Leisuretowne. You can easily cross into Pennsylvania (Philadelphia is about 35 miles west), New York, Delaware, Maryland, and beyond, all standard road-trip territory. Crossing into Canada is allowed by many hosts but requires advance approval, so message the host through the listing before booking if you are planning a route to Niagara Falls or Montreal. One firm rule: travel into Mexico is not permitted because insurance and protection coverage end at that border. Popular multi-state routes from Leisuretowne include the Outer Banks, coastal Maine, and the Pocono Mountains.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat should I budget for fuel on an RV road trip from Leisuretowne?
Fuel is usually the second-biggest expense after the rental itself, but budgeting is straightforward. Campervans average 16 to 20 mpg, Class C motorhomes get 8 to 12 mpg, and big Class A rigs run 6 to 10 mpg. New Jersey gas prices vary, so check current rates before your trip, and remember it is a full-service state, so stay in your seat while the attendant pumps. A 500-mile round trip to Cape May and back in a Class C will run roughly $150 to $200 in fuel. Tip: fill up just before crossing into Pennsylvania or Delaware where prices are sometimes lower along Interstate 295.
gasprices.aaa.com/state-gas-price-averages/How far in advance should I book a campground near Leisuretowne?
For New Jersey state park campgrounds like Wharton, Bass River, and Brendan T. Byrne, reserve about 3 to 6 months ahead through the official NJ State Park reservation system, especially for summer weekends, July 4th, and Labor Day. Private parks like Timberlane and Yogi Bear's Jellystone book up 2 to 3 months out for peak weekends but often have midweek availability just days ahead. Tip: set a calendar reminder when reservation windows open. For a spontaneous Pine Barrens trip, target Sunday through Thursday nights when sites at Atsion are usually wide open.
newjerseystateparks.reserveamerica.com/What are driving conditions like around Leisuretowne for an RV?
Leisuretowne sits in a rural, flat pocket of Burlington County, making it one of the friendlier spots in New Jersey to learn motorhome rental driving. Local roads like Route 206, Route 70, and Route 530 are wide, straight, and low-traffic. Heads up: the Garden State Parkway has low clearances on some southern bridges and trailer restrictions on certain northern sections, so use I-295 or the New Jersey Turnpike for big-rig travel. Avoid Philadelphia or Atlantic City at rush hour (7 to 9 a.m. and 4 to 6:30 p.m.), and watch for deer at dusk along any Pine Barrens road.
state.nj.us/transportation/What amenities can I expect at campgrounds near Leisuretowne, and where can I dump and fill water?

Wharton State Forest offers vault toilets and potable water but no hookups, while Timberlane and Yogi Bear's Jellystone provide 30/50-amp electric, water, sewer, Wi-Fi, laundry, pools, and camp stores. Dump stations are available at Atsion (Wharton State Forest), Bass River State Forest, and most private parks (often free for guests, with a fee for non-guests). A refundable security deposit, typically $500 to $1,500 depending on the RV, is placed as a hold on your card before pickup. Return the RV in the same condition with the gas and tanks as agreed, and the hold is released.
