Campgrounds and RV parks near Pemberton Heights, NJ

Pemberton Heights sits at the northern edge of the New Jersey Pine Barrens, putting RV renters within a short drive of the largest concentration of public campgrounds in the state. Brendan T Byrne State Forest covers just over 38,000 acres and is the second largest state forest in New Jersey, located in the pine barrens, and its campground lies a short drive south of town. A bit farther south, Wharton State Forest is the largest single tract of land within the New Jersey State Park System. It contains Atsion Recreational Area on Route 206 in Shamong, plus primitive sites at Hawkins Bridge and other locations along the Wading and Mullica rivers. All of the state forest campgrounds are booked through the same central New Jersey reservation system. For a full-hookup RV park experience, Crystal Springs Wilderness Lodges and RV Resort and Timberland Lake Campground round out the local options, offering amenities that the primitive state-forest sites do not.

All New Jersey state forest campgrounds in the area use one system. Online reservations are made at camping.nj.gov, which covers Brendan T Byrne State Forest, Atsion Recreational Area, and Wharton State Forest - Hawkins Bridge. Renters need to create an account before booking, and the window opens 11 months ahead of the check-in date. RV size limits matter here. Atsion has fifty tent and trailer sites with a maximum trailer length of 22 feet, each with fire rings and picnic tables, and potable water, flush toilets and showers are within walking distance. Hawkins Bridge and the other Wading River sites are primitive, with pit toilets and no hookups. Crystal Springs Wilderness Lodges and RV Resort and Timberland Lake Campground book directly through their own websites and are the better choice for larger rigs needing full hookups.
