Campgrounds and RV parks near Presidential Lakes Estates, NJ

Paddling is the signature activity here. The Wading River and Batsto River wind through the Pinelands with easy, flat water suited to canoes and kayaks, and outfitters near Wharton State Forest - Hawkins Bridge shuttle boats to and from riverside campsites. Wading Pines Camping Resort adds a pool, a stocked fishing pond, and family activities on site. On land, the Batona Trail crosses Brendan T Byrne State Forest and continues into Wharton, giving hikers and mountain bikers roughly fifty miles of sandy pine-flat trails. Families also visit historic Whitesbog Village, where the first cultivated highbush blueberry was developed, and Batsto Village for a look at the region's iron and glass past.

The core RV camping season in this part of New Jersey runs from spring through late fall. Wading Pines Camping Resort operates from spring into November, and Wharton State Forest - Hawkins Bridge follows a similar May through October window. Brendan T Byrne State Forest opens most of its campground for the warm months and closes primitive and group areas at other times. Summer is the busiest stretch. July and August bring warm river water, blueberry season, and steady weekend demand at both state and private grounds. Reservations for holiday weekends fill many weeks ahead. Late spring and early fall offer the same trail access with fewer bugs and cooler nights, making them strong choices for a first-time RV trip. Winter is quiet. Most private resorts close, primitive Wharton sites shut down, and only limited off-season camping remains available at a handful of state forest sites. Fire restrictions can appear in dry stretches of spring and early summer, so check the New Jersey Forest Fire Service status before travel.

Terrain is flat and sandy, with pitch pines, oaks, and cedar swamps rather than mountains or dramatic overlooks. Rivers run dark from tannins in decaying pine needles: the color is natural, not pollution, and the water is safe for swimming and paddling. State forest sites at Brendan T Byrne and Wharton State Forest - Hawkins Bridge are basic. Expect a fire ring, picnic table, and vault or composting toilets, with potable water at Hawkins Bridge but no electric hookups. Private grounds like Wading Pines Camping Resort and Crystal Springs Wilderness Lodges and RV Resort provide water and electric sites, plus laundry, camp stores, and family amenities. Cell service is spotty inside the Pinelands, deer and ticks are common, and pets are allowed only at designated pet-friendly sites in the state forests. Bring bug spray, especially in June and July.
