Campgrounds near Vincentown
Vincentown sits in Burlington County on the western edge of the New Jersey Pine Barrens, putting RV renters within a short drive of two of the state's largest forest reservations. With just over 38,000 acres, Brendan T. Byrne State Forest is the second largest state forest and is located in the pine barrens. Wharton State Forest, immediately to the south, is the state's largest. Both are managed by the New Jersey Division of Parks and Forestry and offer developed and primitive camping in a sandy, pine-and-oak landscape crossed by tea-colored rivers.
The closest established base is Atsion Recreational Area inside Wharton State Forest, south of Vincentown along Route 206. There are 50 tent and trailer sites with fire rings and picnic tables that are adjacent to Atsion Lake. Brendan T Byrne State Forest lies to the northeast near New Lisbon, and additional primitive sites at Wharton State Forest - Hawkins Bridge sit deeper in the Pinelands along the Wading River.
For RV renters who want full hookups and family amenities, Wading Pines Camping Resort is the closest private option, and Crystal Springs Wilderness Lodges and RV Resort provides a larger-rig alternative farther north.
Things to do near Vincentown
The Pine Barrens are the main draw. The Batona Trail connects Bass River, Wharton, and Brendan T. Byrne State Forests, and shorter loops branch off it for day hikes. Short loops at the forest office and around Pakim Pond in Brendan T. Byrne provide easy walking on wide sandy paths.
Water activities center on the Mullica, Batsto, and Wading Rivers. Swimming is only permitted when lifeguards are on duty. Atsion Recreation Area includes a beach complex containing a changing area, restrooms, showers, a first-aid station and a concession building offering refreshments, novelties and beach supplies. Canoe/kayak rentals are also available on Atsion Lake. Wading Pines Camping Resort sits on the Wading River with on-site canoe and kayak rentals.
History stops include Batsto Village, the Atsion Mansion, and the historic village of Whitesbog where the very first cultivated blueberry was developed.

Peak camping season runs from late spring through early fall. Summer weekends fill fastest at Atsion because of lake swimming and river paddling, and reservations should be made well in advance. On busy summer days the Atsion Lake parking area can reach capacity and close to additional vehicles by mid-morning. Biting insects, ticks, and chiggers are active in the Pines from late spring through fall, so long sleeves and repellent are worth packing.
Spring and fall are quieter and generally more comfortable for hiking, with fewer insects and cooler nights. Fall foliage in the pitch pine and mixed hardwood stands is subtle but scenic through October and early November. For the 2026 season, we plan to open on April 1 and close November 1. at Wading Pines, which is typical of private Pine Barrens resorts.
Winter camping is limited but possible in the state forests. Campsites open year round unless otherwise posted. at Brendan T. Byrne, and Atsion cabins close for the winter. Water systems may be shut off at primitive sites during freezing weather, so plan for self-contained operation.

We had a great experience with RV Cozy Camper. The camper truly lived up to its name — it was clean, comfortable, and well maintained, making our trip relaxing and enjoyable. Everything we needed was thoughtfully provided, and the layout made the space feel welcoming and functional. It was easy to tow and set up, which helped take a lot of stress out of the trip. The attention to detail really showed and made us feel comfortable right away. Communication was smooth and helpful, and any questions we had were answered promptly. Overall, this was a wonderful experience, and we would absolutely recommend RV Cozy Camper to anyone looking for a reliable and comfortable camping option. We had a family reunion out in West Virginia the first week in August. We decided to rent an RV this how I found Rod the owner of the RV. He was very polite and up front we us the whole time. The only down fall is the no pet rule. But we definitely rent from him next year.

We had a blast on our family road trip. "Archie" was easy to drive, clean and comfortable for my family of 3, with room to spare. Rod is a really nice guy and responded quickly to any question we had. We would love to do it again soon

How to book near Vincentown
New Jersey state forest campgrounds use a single online reservation system. Online reservations can be made at camping.nj.gov. This portal covers Atsion, Hawkins Bridge, and the other Wharton State Forest campgrounds, as well as Brendan T Byrne State Forest. Atsion typically requires a two-night minimum, and reservations can be made online or by phone through the park office.
On arrival, check in at either the Batsto Office or the Atsion Office. Permit holders should bring photo ID, and if arriving after park office hours, plan to check in the following morning.
Private resorts book directly. Wading Pines and Crystal Springs both accept reservations through their own websites and by phone, with cabin rentals and full-hookup RV sites typically requiring deposits at booking.
What to expect at Vincentown campgrounds
State forest sites in the Pine Barrens are wooded, sandy, and generally rustic. Atsion Family Campground has 50 tent and RV sites with a 22-foot maximum length, each with a fire ring and picnic table, and Flush toilets, showers are within walking distance. There are no site hookups, though a trailer sanitary station is available seasonally. Cell service is spotty in the interior forest.
Road conditions can become challenging after storms, with soft sand creating potential traction issues, so larger rigs should stick to paved approaches and confirm site access before turning off main roads.
Private resorts operate very differently. Wading Pines is open March 1 - Nov. 15 and offers 300 RV sites, 250 double slideout sites, 45-foot max. RV length, 30 / 50 amp service, tent sites and group facilities. Expect an active, family-oriented atmosphere with pools, playgrounds, and weekend events rather than the quiet of a state forest site.
