Campgrounds near Blauvelt
Blauvelt sits in Rockland County, New York, just west of the Hudson River and roughly a half-hour drive from the George Washington Bridge. The location puts RV travelers within reach of a mix of state park campgrounds, an urban RV park, and rustic tent sites across the Lower Hudson Valley and northern New Jersey Highlands.
The closest developed option is Beaver Pond Campground in Harriman State Park, which adjoins the Lake Welch Recreation Area within Harriman State Park and sits about 25 miles north of the George Washington Bridge. For travelers who want direct access to Manhattan, Liberty Harbor RV Park in Jersey City offers full hookup sites with skyline views and short walking access to the PATH train and Liberty Landing Ferry.
Farther afield, Pelton Pond in Clarence Fahnestock State Park sits about an hour north in the Hudson Highlands, Camp Wyanokie provides rustic tent camping in the New Jersey Highlands, and Floyd Bennett Field in Gateway National Recreational Area is the only National Park Service campground inside New York City limits.
Things to do near Blauvelt
Harriman State Park is the main outdoor draw, with an extensive trail network, numerous lakes, and swimming beaches. A protected swimming beach is available at Lake Welch when lifeguards are on duty, and the campground offers walking access to hiking trails and Lake Welch Beach.
To the north, Clarence Fahnestock State Park adds a sandy beach at Canopus Lake, boat rentals, and a long trail network, and hosts the Taconic Outdoor Education Center and Fahnestock Winter Park for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing in season.
Closer to the city, RV travelers can base at Liberty Harbor and ride the PATH into Manhattan, or camp at Floyd Bennett Field for access to Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge with 300 species of migratory birds, along with biking, kayaking, and historic hangar tours at the former airfield.

The Lower Hudson Valley has a four-season climate with a defined camping window at most public campgrounds. State park sites typically open in spring and close in mid-October. Beaver Pond opens in mid-April for walk-in camping only, then runs a regular reservation season from early May through mid-October. Camp Gateway at Floyd Bennett Field is open April through October and offers tent and RV camping, though seasonal operations can change year to year and should be confirmed on Recreation.gov before booking.
Summer weekends fill quickly because of proximity to New York City, so weekend bookings should be made as far in advance as possible. Fall brings cooler nights and Hudson Highlands foliage but shorter operating hours at beaches and boat rentals.
Winter camping options are limited. Liberty Harbor RV Park operates year-round, while state park campgrounds in the region are closed for the season.

You can book your Blauvelt RV with confidence because RVezy, not the individual host, sets the cancellation policy. After booking there is a short grace period during which you can cancel for a full refund. After that window, your refund depends on how close you are to your trip start date. Because RVezy administers cancellations, you'll never have to negotiate refunds with the owner directly, and the customer support team is available before, during, and after every trip. Lock in your dates early for a Hudson Valley fall foliage trip, then use the grace period to finalize plans without risk.

Common delivery destinations from Blauvelt include Beaver Pond Campground at Harriman State Park (about 20 miles north), Croton Point Park (about 25 miles), and Black Bear Campground in Florida, NY (about 30 miles). Filter by Delivery on the listing page and look for hosts who list their per-mile delivery fee upfront. weather.gov/okx/I've never driven an RV. Will I be okay around Blauvelt?
You'll do great, and you won't be on your own figuring it out. Every RVezy host provides a hands-on orientation at pickup, walking you through driving, hookups, leveling, propane, and the dump process before you leave. For first time renting an RV in Blauvelt, smaller Class C motorhomes (22 to 26 feet) and travel trailers under 25 feet are the easiest to handle on local roads like Route 303. Note that the Palisades Interstate Parkway is restricted to passenger vehicles only, so plan to use Route 303, I-287, or I-87 for any RV. You can message the host anytime through the app, and 24/7 roadside assistance is included with every booking. Take a 20-minute spin around the Lake DeForest Reservoir loop before hitting the highway to get a feel for the rig.
palisadesparkway.org/What if something breaks down during my trip?
You're covered. Every RV rental in Blauvelt, NY booked through RVezy includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, so help is one phone call away whether you have a flat tire near the Mario Cuomo Bridge, a dead battery at Bear Mountain, or a propane issue at Beaver Pond. help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Blauvelt RV rental into Canada or other states?
Cross-state travel is easy and encouraged. From Blauvelt you're 15 minutes from New Jersey, an hour from Connecticut, and a few hours from Massachusetts, Vermont, or Pennsylvania, and most hosts welcome multi-state itineraries. Cross-border travel to Canada depends on the individual host and their coverage, so message the host directly before booking to confirm and be sure to bring your passport. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals. Popular routes from Blauvelt include the Hudson Valley wine trail north into Ulster County, the Berkshires loop into western Massachusetts, and a coastal run through Newport and Cape Cod. For a Canadian trip, book at least 2 weeks ahead so the host has time to confirm cross-border coverage.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat kind of fuel mileage should I budget for, and what's gas like near Blauvelt?
Plan smart and fuel won't blow your budget. Class B campervans average about 18 to 22 MPG, Class C motorhomes get about 8 to 12 MPG, and Class A motorhomes land around 7 to 10 MPG. Travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle but expect a 20 to 30 percent hit to its normal MPG. Rockland County gas prices typically run slightly above the national average, so consider filling up just before crossing into New Jersey on Route 303 where prices are often noticeably lower in Northvale or Norwood. Diesel rigs do best at travel centers along the New York State Thruway (I-87). For a 3-night trip up to Lake George and back (about 430 miles round-trip), budget roughly $140 to $200 in fuel for a typical Class C.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Blauvelt?
For the most popular spots, book as early as you can. New York State Parks (including Beaver Pond at Harriman) open reservations 9 months in advance through ReserveAmerica, and summer weekends at Beaver Pond often fill within hours of release. Aim to book by January or February for July and August stays, and by July for peak October foliage weekends. Private parks like Black Bear Campground and Croton Point typically need 1 to 3 months of lead time for summer Saturdays. Midweek and shoulder season trips can often be booked just a week out. New York State Parks also accept same-day reservations, so a last-minute Tuesday trip from Blauvelt to Harriman is realistic.
newyorkstateparks.reserveamerica.com/What are local driving conditions like around Blauvelt?
Blauvelt sits in a sweet spot for RV driving, with suburban roads and quick access to wide-shouldered highways. The key thing to know: the Palisades Interstate Parkway, which runs right by Blauvelt, is restricted to passenger vehicles only and does not allow commercial vehicles, trucks, or most RVs, so plan to use Route 303, I-287, or I-87 (the Thruway) for any motorhome. Avoid the Henry Hudson, Saw Mill, and Bronx River parkways across the river, all are car-only as well. Hudson Valley terrain includes some steep grades around Bear Mountain Bridge, so downshift on descents. Traffic on the Mario Cuomo Bridge eastbound on Friday afternoons can be heavy, leave Blauvelt before noon or after 7 p.m.
palisadesparkway.org/What amenities will I find at campgrounds near Blauvelt?
You'll find a great mix. Most private parks within an hour of Blauvelt (Black Bear Campground, Croton Point Park, Newburgh KOA) offer 30 and 50-amp electric, water, sewer hookups, hot showers, laundry, and dump stations. State park campgrounds like Beaver Pond at Harriman provide picnic tables, fire rings with flip-top grills, central comfort stations with showers, a dump station, and laundry, but generally no electric or water hookups at the site, so you'll rely on your RV's fresh tank and battery. Free dump stations and potable water fills are available at Beaver Pond and Bear Mountain State Park. Top off your fresh-water tank before leaving Blauvelt, Harriman water access points can have a line on summer Sundays.
parks.ny.gov/parks/harrimanWhat's inside a typical RV rental in Blauvelt?
You'll be surprised how loaded these rigs are. A typical motorhome rental in Blauvelt includes a queen or king bed, a convertible dinette or sofa sleeper, a full kitchen with a 3-burner propane stove, microwave, refrigerator and freezer, and a wet or dry bathroom with toilet and shower. Most Class C and Class A rentals sleep 4 to 7, have roof-mounted air conditioning, a furnace, and seatbelts for everyone riding. Generators are common in larger rigs, and many hosts include a TV, Bluetooth stereo, and outdoor speakers. WiFi is occasionally offered, but plan to use your phone's hotspot for the best signal through the Hudson Valley. Filter listings by sleeps count and review the photos carefully, Blauvelt hosts often include thoughtful extras like camp chairs, outdoor rugs, and starter kits with coffee and dish soap.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Blauvelt,%20New%20YorkWhat add-ons can I get with my Blauvelt RV rental?
Hosts in Blauvelt offer a long menu of optional extras to make your trip easier. Popular add-ons include linen and towel packages (about $25 to $75), kitchen kits with pots, plates, and utensils (about $25 to $50), generator usage beyond included time, bike racks, propane fire pits, kayaks, and outdoor grills. Pickup and dropoff are typically self-service at the host's location in Blauvelt or nearby Orangeburg, Pearl River, or Nyack, and most hosts include a 1-hour orientation. Mileage policies range from around 100 miles per night to unlimited, and pet fees (where allowed) are usually a flat amount per trip. Ask the host to include a sewer hose and water-pressure regulator if they're not already standard, you'll want both for any hookup site in the Hudson Valley.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Blauvelt,%20New%20YorkHow does the security deposit and payment work?
Payment is simple and secure, handled entirely through RVezy, with no cash or off-platform transfers to the host. When you book, you'll pay the rental total (plus protection plan and fees) by credit or debit card. The host's security deposit is placed as a temporary hold on your card before the trip and released after a successful return, typically within several days. Deposit amounts vary by RV value, generally falling in the $500 to $1,500 range. To avoid deposit issues, take date-stamped photos of the RV inside and out at pickup and dropoff, return with a full fuel tank, and empty the black and gray tanks as instructed. Booking a few days in advance also gives the deposit hold time to settle alongside other travel charges on your card.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksWhat's a great first weekend RV trip from Blauvelt?
For a perfect intro to the Hudson Valley, plan a 2-night loop from Blauvelt to Bear Mountain and Cold Spring. Pick up your rental Friday morning, drive about 30 minutes up Route 9W to Beaver Pond Campground at Harriman State Park, set up camp, and hike the Appalachian Trail section that crosses the park. Saturday, cross the Bear Mountain Bridge into Cold Spring (one of the prettiest river towns in New York) for antique shopping, lunch, and a stroll along the Hudson. Sunday morning, visit Storm King Art Center in New Windsor before heading back. Total drive is under 100 miles, with fuel typically under $50 for most rigs. Book Beaver Pond loop A sites if available, they tend to be quieter than the central loop.
