Camping near Congers, New York
Congers sits in Rockland County on the west side of the Hudson River, roughly 25 miles north of the George Washington Bridge. The location puts RV travelers within a short drive of two large state park systems, the Palisades Interstate Parks in New York and the New York-New Jersey Highlands, plus urban RV access to Manhattan by ferry or PATH train.
The closest developed campground is Beaver Pond Campground inside Harriman State Park, which adjoins the Lake Welch Recreation Area. Farther north in Putnam County, Pelton Pond at Clarence Fahnestock State Park offers wooded sites on a small pond with direct trail access, though travelers should confirm current-season status with the park before booking, as the campground has been affected by bathhouse construction.
West of Congers, options include Camp Wyanokie in West Milford, New Jersey, a rustic tent-only property next to Norvin Green State Forest, and Black Bear Campground in Florida, New York, a full-hookup RV park in Orange County. To the south, Liberty Harbor RV Park in Jersey City is the closest full-hookup option to New York City.
Things to do near Congers
Harriman State Park is the primary outdoor draw, with more than 200 miles of trails, 31 lakes, and two swimming beaches. Guests staying at Beaver Pond Campground can walk to the Lake Welch swimming beach and pick up trails that connect to the Appalachian Trail. Fishing and non-motorized boating are permitted on Lake Welch with the appropriate camper boat permit.
At Clarence Fahnestock State Park, the 1.5-mile Pelton Pond loop trail provides easy access to hiking without driving, and Canopus Lake features a sandy beach, boat rentals, and a concession stand during summer months. A section of the Appalachian Trail also crosses the park.
For day trips, Liberty Harbor RV Park offers ferry service to Pier 11 at Wall Street on weekdays and is a short walk to the Grove Street PATH station for direct trains into Manhattan.

The New York State Parks camping season is short and firmly enforced. Beaver Pond Campground closes for the winter and typically operates through the warmer months, with reservations filling quickly on summer weekends. Pelton Pond at Clarence Fahnestock has historically operated a mid-May through early November season with 75 sites, though the Fahnestock campground has been closed to facilitate the construction of a new bathhouse, so travelers should verify current status with the park office before planning a trip.
Spring and summer are the peak paddling and swimming seasons in Harriman and Fahnestock, and weekends near New York City fill quickly. Fall brings strong foliage across the Hudson Highlands and cooler nights well suited to RV travel. Winter shifts activity to Fahnestock Winter Park, which includes 20 kilometers of groomed trails for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing.
Black Bear Campground and Liberty Harbor RV Park both operate year-round, making them the practical choices for late-fall, winter, or early-spring trips when the state park campgrounds are closed.

Here’s the updated version with the host included: RV Trip Review We just got back from our trip and had a great experience with this RV. The vehicle was clean, comfortable, and ran really well throughout the entire trip. It had plenty of space for the family and made traveling together easy and enjoyable. Everything worked as expected, and we felt comfortable and confident on the road. The host was also incredibly supportive, friendly, and easy to communicate with. They made the whole rental experience smooth and stress-free. It was a great RV for a family trip(5 people), and we would definitely rent from this host again!

How to book
New York State Parks campgrounds, including Beaver Pond and Pelton Pond, use ReserveAmerica and accept reservations up to nine months in advance. Walk-ins are generally discouraged at state park campgrounds during the reserved season, and same-day availability should be confirmed by phone with the park office.
Camp Wyanokie takes tent-only reservations through its operator and cannot accommodate RVs. Black Bear Campground books directly by phone or through its website, and Liberty Harbor RV Park accepts reservations by phone and offers self check-in when the office is closed.
What to expect
Beaver Pond is a primitive state park campground with no electric hookups, though it does offer restrooms, showers, and a dump station. Select sites accept trailers and RVs, and standard New York State Parks alcohol and pet rules apply. Pelton Pond accepts RVs up to 40 feet and includes 22 ADA sites, tables, grills, water, toilets, and showers, with a maximum of two leashed pets allowed per site.
Black Bear Campground is RV-focused with full hookups, 20/30/50-amp service, back-in and pull-through sites, a pool, playground, laundry, and Wi-Fi. Liberty Harbor is essentially a paved marina lot with electric, water, restrooms, showers, and a dump station: convenient but tight for large rigs. Camp Wyanokie is rustic tent camping only, with fire rings and outhouses, and no running water, electricity, or Wi-Fi.

New York State does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or special endorsement for the Class A, Class B campervan, Class C motorhome, travel trailer, or fifth wheel rentals you will find on RVezy. Refund eligibility depends on how far in advance you cancel, and if a host cancels you are refunded or offered travel credits. The exact policy details are shown at checkout. weather.gov/okx/I've never driven an RV before, will I be okay?
You're going to do great, even if it's your first time renting an RV. Every Congers host gives you a hands-on orientation at pickup, walking you through driving tips, leveling, hookups, the generator, and the holding tanks, so you never feel left alone with a manual. For total beginners, the easiest path is a Class B campervan (drives like a tall minivan) or having a travel trailer delivered and set up for you. Rockland County's roads are well-maintained, and once you're north of the Tappan Zee Bridge area, traffic thins out beautifully. Pro tip: message a few hosts before booking. The ones who reply quickly and patiently are exactly the ones who'll set you up for success.
dmv.ny.gov/about-dmv/driver-manuals-and-practice-testsWhat happens if something goes wrong on the road?
You are covered around the clock. Every RV rental in Congers includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the RVezy protection plan, so a flat tire on the Palisades Parkway, a dead battery at Bear Mountain, or a lockout at Beaver Pond Campground is just a phone call away. RVezy's support team is also available before, during, and after your trip for non-mechanical questions, and your host is typically just a text message away for help with how something works. Pro tip: save the roadside number in your phone before pulling out, snap a photo of the RV's plate and VIN, and you will be ready for anything the Hudson Valley throws at you.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Congers RV rental across state lines or into Canada?
Yes, interstate travel is standard with an RV rental in Congers, NY. From here you can reach New Jersey in under 15 minutes, Connecticut in about an hour, Pennsylvania in 90 minutes, and Massachusetts or Vermont in a long afternoon. Trips into Canada (such as Montreal or Quebec City) are allowed with host approval so insurance coverage across the border can be confirmed, so message the host before booking. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because insurance does not extend there. Pro tip: popular multi-state loops from Congers include the Berkshires, Cape Cod, the Finger Lakes, and Acadia National Park.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat kind of fuel economy and gas budget should I plan for?
Budgeting fuel for your Congers RV trip is straightforward once you know the rough numbers. Class B campervans average 18 to 22 mpg, Class C motorhomes about 8 to 12 mpg, and Class A motorhomes around 6 to 10 mpg. Travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle, usually 10 to 14 mpg combined. Gas prices in Rockland County tend to run above the national average, so fueling up in New Jersey along Route 17 or the Garden State Parkway often saves money. Pro tip: use GasBuddy to compare local prices, and filling up before crossing back into New York can shave real money off a week-long Hudson Valley itinerary.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Congers?
For the best campgrounds near Congers, NY, plan to book your campsite 3 to 9 months ahead, especially for summer weekends and fall foliage dates. New York State Park campgrounds, including Beaver Pond inside Harriman State Park, open reservations up to 9 months in advance through ReserveAmerica, and prime Saturdays in July and August can fill within days of opening. Private parks like Black Bear Campground typically book up 2 to 3 months ahead for peak season. Pro tip: if your dates are locked, set a calendar reminder for exactly 9 months before arrival and book the moment the window opens. It is the secret weapon of every Hudson Valley RV camper.
newyorkstateparks.reserveamerica.com/What are driving conditions like around Congers and the NYC metro?
Driving an RV in and around Congers is very manageable once you understand the local quirks. The Palisades Interstate Parkway, which runs right past Congers, bans commercial vehicles and trucks, but personal RVs and motorhomes are welcome (campervans and Class C rigs are perfect for it). Avoid the Saw Mill, Bronx River, Hutchinson River, and Taconic parkways with anything tall, as low bridges can be unforgiving. Use I-287, I-87, and the Thruway instead. Avoid weekday rush hours (7 to 9 a.m. and 4 to 7 p.m.) on the Mario Cuomo Bridge. Pro tip: book delivery if city driving makes you nervous and have the RV waiting at your campsite.
dot.ny.gov/What amenities can I expect at campgrounds near Congers?
Campgrounds near Congers run the full spectrum, so you can match amenities to your style. State park campgrounds like Beaver Pond in Harriman offer rustic sites with picnic tables, fire rings, shared bathhouses, and potable water spigots, but limited or no hookups, plus a centralized dump station. Private parks like Black Bear Campground and Croton Point provide hookups, Wi-Fi, laundry, and sometimes pools. Most New York State Parks have a dump station for registered campers, and you can fill fresh water at the campground spigot or before departure at your host's home. Pro tip: ask your host where to dump and fill nearby. Many know convenient stops along Route 9W or I-87.
parks.ny.gov/camping/What's inside the RV, beds, kitchen, bathroom, Wi-Fi?
Congers RV rentals come well-equipped for a comfortable Hudson Valley getaway. Expect real beds (queens are common, with bunks and convertible dinettes for families), a kitchen with a propane stove, fridge, microwave, sink, and cookware, plus a bathroom with toilet and shower in nearly all Class B, Class C, motorhome rental Congers options, fifth wheels, and most travel trailers. Roof-mounted air conditioning, propane furnaces, TVs, and Bluetooth stereos are common, and many rigs include a generator for off-grid power. Wi-Fi varies (some hosts include a mobile hotspot), so confirm in the listing if you need to work remotely. Pro tip: filter by sleeps count and review photos carefully so the layout matches a family RV trip Congers crew of any size.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Congers,%20New%20YorkWhat add-ons and pickup options should I know about?
RVezy hosts in Congers offer thoughtful add-ons that make your trip easier. Common extras include linen and kitchen kits, camping chairs and outdoor tables, generators, propane refills, bike racks, and pet packages. Delivery and setup is the most popular add-on, with fees set by each host and typically charged per mile from their home base in Rockland County. Pickup and dropoff times are set by the host on the listing, and most rigs include a daily mileage allowance with an overage rate disclosed in the listing. Pro tip: bundle delivery, setup, and a linen kit on your first booking, and you will roll into Harriman State Park with nothing to do but light a campfire.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Congers,%20New%20YorkHow does payment and the security deposit work?
Payment for your Congers RV rental is simple and secure, all handled through the RVezy platform with no cash changing hands with the host. You pay the rental total at booking using a credit or debit card, and your host places a separate refundable security deposit hold on your card before pickup. The hold is released after the trip once the rig is returned clean, on time, and damage-free. Pro tip: do a quick walkaround video at pickup and dropoff, refill fuel and propane to the level noted on your rental agreement, and your deposit will be returned promptly after your Hudson Valley adventure.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksWhat are the top road trip destinations from Congers, NY?
Congers, NY is one of the best launchpads in the Northeast for an RV road trip. Top picks: Bear Mountain State Park (about 20 minutes, riverside hiking and a zoo), Harriman State Park (about 30 minutes, extensive trails and Beaver Pond Campground), Storm King Art Center in New Windsor (about 40 minutes, world-class outdoor sculpture), the Catskills around Phoenicia and Woodstock (about 90 minutes, waterfalls and tubing), and Cape Cod (about 5 hours for a classic New England beach week). Insider tip: take Route 9W north along the Hudson instead of the Thruway for a slower, prettier drive past Nyack, Haverstraw, and West Point. Pro tip: line up Bear Mountain and Storm King in a single weekend loop for a quintessential Hudson Valley RV trip.
