Camping near Dundee, New York
Dundee sits in Yates County between Seneca Lake and Keuka Lake, at the heart of the Finger Lakes wine region. The village is a practical base for RV travelers, with campgrounds strung along both lakeshores and quick access to state parks north, south, and west.
Close-in options include Smith Memorial Park, a small municipal campground, plus private grounds like Back-Achers Campsites and Lakeview Campsites that cater to RV travelers with hookups. For state-park camping, Keuka Lake State Park has 150 tent and trailer sites, 53 with electric hookup, roughly a 25-minute drive north.
Further south, Watkins Glen State Park sits in the village of Watkins Glen at the south end of Seneca Lake, and offers 305 campsites with restrooms, hot showers, dump stations, and firewood for sale. Together these parks and the private campgrounds give RV travelers a range of choices within a short drive of Dundee.
Things to do around Dundee
The main draws are waterfalls, lakes, and wineries. Within two miles at Watkins Glen State Park, the glen's stream descends 400 feet past 200-foot cliffs, generating 19 waterfalls; the gorge path winds over and under waterfalls and through the spray of Cavern Cascade, while rim trails overlook the gorge.
On the water, Keuka is one of the warmer Finger Lakes and is popular for swimming and beach time, with hiking, boating, and fishing available at Keuka Lake State Park. Anglers target Seneca Lake and Catharine Creek, which is renowned for its annual spring run of rainbow trout.
Dundee also sits on the Seneca Lake Wine Trail, and Watkins Glen International draws motorsports fans during race weekends.

The camping season in this part of the Finger Lakes runs roughly mid-May through mid-October. Keuka Lake State Park and Watkins Glen State Park Campground both open in mid-May and close in mid-October, with exact dates shifting slightly by season. Outside those windows, expect closed gates at most state-park campgrounds and reduced services at private grounds.
Spring brings full waterfalls and the Catharine Creek trout run, along with cool nights. Mid-June through August is the busiest stretch at the parks, especially on weekends, and NASCAR and vintage race weekends at Watkins Glen International spike demand well beyond normal.
Fall delivers Finger Lakes foliage and harvest season at the wineries, typically peaking in early to mid-October. Winter closes state-park camping, though park trails remain open for snowshoeing and cross-country skiing during the colder months.
How to book Dundee campsites
State-park sites at Keuka Lake and Watkins Glen are booked through the New York State Parks reservation system on ReserveAmerica. Same-day reservations are allowed until 3 p.m. on day of arrival, and reservations can be made online or through the ReserveAmerica Call Center at 1-800-456-2267.
Campsites at Watkins Glen may be booked up to 9 months in advance, with a 2-night minimum stay. Sites fill quickly for summer weekends, holidays, and race weekends, so aim to book several months ahead.
Private campgrounds like Back-Achers Campsites, Lakeview Campsites, and Smith Memorial Park handle bookings directly by phone or their own websites, and generally require a shorter lead time than the state parks.
What to expect at Dundee campgrounds
Sites in this area lean rustic by RV-park standards. Full hookups are not available at Keuka Lake State Park; the park has 150 tent and trailer sites across three camping loops, 53 with electric hookup, and water is a shared spigot arrangement, one spigot for every four campsites. A dump station is on site.
At Watkins Glen, Mohawk Village and Cayuga Village are the only loops with electric sites, and there are no water or sewer hookups at individual sites. Private campgrounds around Dundee typically offer more traditional RV hookups.
Expect wooded, rolling terrain, cool nights even in summer, and variable cell service outside the villages. A maximum of two pets are allowed in campsites and day-use areas, must be supervised, and either crated or on a leash no more than 6 feet in length.

How much does it cost to rent an RV in Dundee, NY?
RV rental in Dundee is one of the better values in the Finger Lakes, especially when you book early. Travel trailers typically start around $90 to $150 per night, Class C motorhomes range from $175 to $275 per night, and larger Class A motorhomes run $250 to $400+ per night. Many hosts offer weekly discounts, and shoulder season dates in May or late September can lower your total further. Pro tip: filter for cheap RV rental in Dundee options that include local delivery, and you can save on fuel by not driving the RV out for pickup. It is one of the best-value RV destinations in New York State.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Dundee%2C%20New%20YorkWhat license do I need to rent an RV in Dundee, NY?
Good news: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Dundee. New York State does not require a special RV endorsement or commercial license for any of the motorhomes available on RVezy. Approved drivers must be 25 or older with a valid license, and RVezy verifies your ID through the platform during booking. Visiting from abroad? Bring an International Driving Permit from your home country's auto association along with your home license. Most first-time renters are surprised how straightforward the process is, even for a 30-foot Class C cruising Route 14 along Seneca Lake.

You have built-in flexibility. After the grace period, refunds depend on how far out your trip start date is and the cancellation terms shown during checkout. Full details are available on the RVezy Help Center and in your booking confirmation. Pro tip: book early to secure the best RVs near Seneca Lake during peak August harvest season, knowing the cancellation policy is consistent across every RVezy listing.

Absolutely, the Finger Lakes is one of the most dog-friendly regions in New York, and finding a pet-friendly RV rental in Dundee is easy. Just use the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy and you'll see motorhomes and travel trailers whose hosts welcome four-legged guests (some charge a small pet fee, usually $25 to $75 per trip). Dogs are welcome on leash at Watkins Glen State Park's South Rim Trail, on the patio at FLX Wienery on Route 14, and at McGregor Vineyard's tasting room. Finger Lakes National Forest, just 20 miles away, has miles of leash-friendly hiking. Your pup is going to love this trip almost as much as you will.
parks.ny.gov/parks/142/details.aspxCan the RV be delivered to my campsite in Dundee?
Yes, RV delivery in Dundee is one of the smartest ways to start your trip, especially for first-time renters. Many hosts will deliver the motorhome or travel trailer directly to Watkins Glen / Corning KOA, a state park site, or a private lakefront campground, then set up the awning, hook up water and power, and walk you through every system before they leave. Delivery fees typically run a few dollars per mile from the host's location, and some hosts offer free delivery within a set radius. Filter listings by Delivery on RVezy to see your options. It is a game-changer for a first time RV rental in wine country.

From Dundee, that's more than enough to circle Seneca Lake (about 75 miles), drive the full Seneca Lake Wine Trail (around 90 miles), or run down to Corning Museum of Glass (40 miles each way). Heading further? Niagara Falls is about 150 miles west, the Adirondacks are around 200 miles northeast, and NYC is a 270-mile shot. Additional miles typically run $0.30 to $0.50 each, and the mileage policy is clearly displayed on every listing before you book.

Watkins Glen State Park has campsites with electric hookups, hot showers, and a dump station, just a short drive from Dundee. Clute Memorial Park & Campground in Watkins Glen offers affordable lakeside hookup sites on Seneca Lake. newyorkstateparks.reserveamerica.com/When is the best time to visit Dundee in an RV?
Late May through mid-October is the sweet spot for a Dundee RV trip, with summer highs around 78 to 82°F and crisp nights perfect for campfires. July and August are peak wine festival season (the Finger Lakes Wine Festival hits Watkins Glen in mid-July), while September and early October bring grape harvest, golden vineyards, and stunning fall foliage with daytime temps in the 60s to low 70s. Spring (April to mid-May) is quieter and cheaper, though nights can dip into the 30s. Winters here are genuinely cold (often single digits, with lake-effect snow off Seneca Lake), so most campgrounds close from late October through April. Pro insider tip: visit during the second weekend of August for the Scottish Festival of the Finger Lakes in Dundee.
weather.gov/bgm/I've never driven an RV before. Will I be okay?
You'll be just fine, and Dundee is actually a great place for first time renting an RV. Roads here are wide, traffic is light, and Route 14 along Seneca Lake is a flat, scenic, easy drive. Every RVezy host does a hands-on orientation at pickup, walking you through driving, leveling, hookups, the generator, and the holding tanks before you take off. You can also message your host any time during the trip with questions. Many Dundee hosts will even deliver and set up the RV at your campground so you barely have to drive it. Within an hour you'll feel surprisingly confident, and 24/7 roadside assistance is included in case anything comes up.
dmv.ny.gov/driver-license/driver-manuals-and-practice-testsWhat happens if the RV breaks down during my Dundee trip?
You are never on your own. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, so one call gets you help whether you are parked at Glenora Wine Cellars or somewhere along Route 14A. The roadside team handles flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, tows, and mechanical issues, and can dispatch RV-capable service throughout the Finger Lakes region. Your host is also a message away through the RVezy app for quick questions about the RV's systems. Cell coverage is solid across Dundee, Watkins Glen, and Penn Yan, and Schuyler Hospital in Montour Falls is the closest emergency room, about 11 miles south.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat are the best road trip destinations from Dundee, NY?
An RV road trip from Dundee opens up some of the Northeast's best scenery. Niagara Falls is 150 miles west (about 2.5 hours), the Adirondack Mountains and Lake George are 200 miles northeast, the Catskills are 175 miles east, and Corning Museum of Glass is just 40 miles south. Want to cross into Canada? Many hosts allow it (Mexico travel is not permitted on RVezy bookings because protection coverage doesn't extend there), but message the host first to confirm cross-border travel is approved for your specific RV. Niagara Falls, Ontario is roughly 175 miles via the Lewiston-Queenston Bridge. The Seneca Lake Wine Trail loop right out your door is a 90-mile classic.
dot.ny.gov/indexWhat's the fuel cost for an RV trip from Dundee?
Budgeting fuel for your Dundee RV trip is pretty straightforward. Gas prices in upstate New York typically run $3.40 to $3.80 per gallon, and most Class C motorhomes get 8 to 10 MPG, travel trailers (when towed) get 10 to 14 MPG, and campervans can hit 16 to 20 MPG. For a 4-day Finger Lakes loop covering 200 miles, expect to spend $75 to $125 on fuel in a Class C. Pro tip: the Stewart's Shops and Mirabito stations in Dundee, Penn Yan, and Watkins Glen often have the area's best prices. Fill up before heading into Watkins Glen on race weekends, when local stations get crowded.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far ahead should I book a campground near Dundee?
Book early and you will thank yourself. For summer weekends (June through August) and any date overlapping the NASCAR Cup Series weekend at Watkins Glen International, reserve 4 to 6 months ahead, especially at Watkins Glen State Park and the KOA. New York State Parks campsites open for reservations 9 months in advance through ReserveAmerica and can fill quickly. For shoulder season (May, September, October), 4 to 6 weeks ahead is usually fine. Private campgrounds like Clute Memorial Park book up fast for fall foliage weekends in late September. Pro tip: midweek nights stay open even in July, so plan Tuesday through Thursday for the best pick.
newyorkstateparks.reserveamerica.com/What are driving conditions like around Dundee?
Driving an RV around Dundee is genuinely easy by Finger Lakes standards. Route 14 (the main north-south corridor along Seneca Lake) is wide, flat, and well-maintained, and Routes 14A and 226 through the vineyards are scenic two-lane roads with gentle grades. Watch for slow farm equipment, Mennonite horse-and-buggy traffic on backroads (Dundee has a sizable Mennonite community), and occasional deer at dawn and dusk. The steep grades around the gorge approaches to Watkins Glen warrant downshifting in a larger Class A. Winter brings serious lake-effect snow from November through March, so most RV travel is May through October. Cell service is solid on main roads but spotty in the deep glens.
dot.ny.gov/divisions/operating/oom/transportation-systems/repository/511NYWhat amenities will I find at campgrounds near Dundee?
Campgrounds near Dundee are well-equipped for a comfortable RV stay. Watkins Glen / Corning KOA offers full hookups (50-amp electric, water, sewer), WiFi, pools, a dog park, and a dump station. Watkins Glen State Park has sites with electric, modern restrooms, hot showers, and a dump station, though individual sites do not have sewer hookups. Clute Memorial Park has water and electric plus a dump station on Seneca Lake. For freshwater fill-ups and dumping on the road, the Watkins Glen State Park dump station is available to non-campers for a small fee. Many Seneca Lake Wine Trail wineries also welcome Harvest Hosts members for overnight parking with no hookups.
parks.ny.gov/parks/142/details.aspxWhat's included inside the RVs I can rent in Dundee?

Many also include a flat-screen TV, Bluetooth stereo, outdoor awning, and camp chairs. WiFi varies by RV, so check the amenities list on each listing. Dundee hosts offer useful add-ons to make a family RV trip easier. Popular options include bedding and linen packages, kitchen kits, camp chairs and outdoor rugs, portable grills, extra generator fuel, and kayaks or bikes (great for Keuka Lake and the Catharine Valley Trail). rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Dundee%2C%20New%20YorkHow does payment and the security deposit work for a Dundee RV rental?
Payment is simple and secure. You pay through the RVezy platform with a credit or debit card when you book, which protects both you and the host. A refundable security deposit (typically $500 to $1,500 depending on the RV) is handled separately from your booking payment and is held before pickup, not charged. As long as you return the RV in the same condition with the agreed fuel and tank levels, the deposit is released after your trip. Pro tip: take date-stamped photos and a short video around the RV at both pickup and drop-off in Dundee, it makes any deposit conversation fast and friction-free.
