Campgrounds near East Hills
East Hills sits on Long Island's North Shore in Nassau County, roughly 20 miles east of Manhattan. The village itself is residential, so RV travelers use it as a base and stage trips to campgrounds spread across the New York City metro, the South Shore beaches, and the Lower Hudson Valley. Options range from urban tent-and-RV sites inside the five boroughs to state-park campgrounds on the Great South Bay and forested sites north in Harriman.
The closest developed campground with RV sites is Floyd Bennett Field in Gateway National Recreation Area, which has historically welcomed both tent campers and RVs, though seasonal status has varied in recent years. Liberty Harbor RV Park across the Hudson in Jersey City is the nearest full-hookup private RV park with direct transit access into Manhattan.
Farther out, Heckscher State Park offers 67 sites on Long Island's Great South Bay shoreline in Suffolk County, accommodating tent campers and RVs with equipment lengths ranging from 20 to 50 feet depending on the site, with restrooms, showers, a dump station, and picnic tables at each site, but no hookups. Watch Hill on Fire Island and Beaver Pond in Harriman round out the practical options.
Things to do near East Hills
Base a trip at Heckscher State Park for beach days and paddling: the park has bay swimming at West Beach, boat launches, kayaking, canoeing, windsurfing, and paddleboarding, plus four miles of paved multi-use trails for hiking and biking. Families with younger kids appreciate the playground and the flat trail network.
From Floyd Bennett Field, riders can access the Jamaica Bay Greenway and Jacob Riis Park by bike, and the grounds include hiking trails, historic airplane hangars, a recreation complex with bike rentals, and an outdoor archery range with 8 to 10 targets.
For a barrier-island trip, Watch Hill Campground on Fire Island puts campers on an ocean beach with ranger programs. Beaver Pond Campground opens up Harriman State Park's lakes and trail system, including a nearby stretch of the Appalachian Trail.

Most public campgrounds in this region are strictly seasonal. Heckscher State Park's campground runs from late May through early September, with reservations through ReserveAmerica. Floyd Bennett Field camping operates seasonally through the National Park Service and its status has varied year to year, so travelers should confirm current dates before booking. Watch Hill sites are available typically from mid-May weekend to mid-October. Beaver Pond camping begins on the last Friday in April, and the last night of camping is the Sunday of Columbus Day Weekend.
Summer weekends fill fastest. Memorial Day, July 4, and Labor Day weekends book out months ahead, and Harriman weekend sites in particular go quickly given the proximity to New York City.
Spring and fall shoulder seasons bring cooler nights and thinner crowds. Bug pressure rises as summer progresses, and mosquitoes and ticks are widely reported in the coastal parks. Winter camping in this region is limited primarily to private year-round RV parks.

We rented this RV from August 21–25, and from beginning to end, we had an absolutely wonderful experience. Charlie and Margaret were amazing hosts! Their communication was excellent, and they were always helpful, friendly, responsive, and very professional. They truly made the entire experience easy and enjoyable. The RV itself was beautiful, modern, extremely clean, and very well maintained. As soon as we walked inside, we were impressed. The lighting throughout the RV was fantastic—there were plenty of lights, which made the space feel bright, comfortable, and welcoming. The bathroom was extremely clean and surprisingly spacious. The bedroom was large, comfortable, and cozy, with plenty of storage space for clothes and personal belongings. We never felt cramped at all. The kitchen was one of our favorite features. It was beautiful and spacious, with a long countertop that gave us plenty of room to prepare meals. Charlie and Margaret really thought of everything. The cabinets and drawers were stocked with pots, pans, plates, utensils, and everything else we needed. They even provided plenty of cleaning supplies, including a broom, vacuum, Lysol wipes, and more. What impressed us most was how much this RV truly felt like a home away from home. We had everything we needed—and honestly, even more than we expected. You can tell Charlie and Margaret put a lot of thought and care into making sure their guests are comfortable and have a great experience. Whether you’re going camping, attending an outdoor event, or simply looking for a comfortable RV getaway, I would highly recommend renting from Charlie and Margaret. Beautiful RV, outstanding hosts, excellent communication, and a five-star experience all around. Thank you, Charlie and Margaret, for helping make our trip so comfortable and memorable! We would absolutely rent from you again! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

How to book near East Hills
Reservation systems vary by operator. New York State Parks including Heckscher and Beaver Pond use ReserveAmerica. Campsite reservations can be made for today and can be made up to 9 months in advance, and same-day reservations are allowed until 3 p.m. on day of arrival for campsites only, bookings can be made online or through the ReserveAmerica Call Center, and walk-ins are permitted on campsites only. Pets are not permitted at campsites or cottages anywhere in the park at Heckscher, and the maximum stay is 14 consecutive nights.
Watch Hill campsites are operated by the concessioner LoveFINS; Watch Hill Family Campground reservations are not available on Recreation.gov, so book through the concessioner. Book weekend summer stays as early as possible.
What to expect near East Hills
Hookups are limited across the region. State-park campgrounds here do not provide electric, water, or sewer at the site, though dump stations, restrooms, and showers are standard. RV travelers who need shore power should plan for generator use where permitted, arrive with full water tanks, or book a private full-hookup park.
Beaver Pond features 125 campsites, with select sites able to accommodate trailers or RVs up to 30 feet in length. Each site includes a picnic table and fire ring with a flip-top grill. The campground provides full-service bathrooms with showers and laundry facilities, plus a dump station for RVs. However, there are no electrical hookups available. Fire Island has no roads for vehicles, so Watch Hill is a walk-in tent operation rather than an RV destination, and campers carry gear from the ferry.
Expect metro-area traffic on Friday afternoons and holiday Sundays. Ticks and mosquitoes are present through the warm months; bring repellent and check daily.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near East Hills, NY
How much does it cost to rent an RV in East Hills, NY?
RV rental in East Hills is more affordable than most people expect for the New York metro area. On RVezy, travel trailers typically run about $90 to $175 per night, campervans around $150 to $250, and larger Class C motorhomes roughly $200 to $375 nightly, with weekly bookings often unlocking host discounts. Booking midweek in May or September, when Nassau County campgrounds are quieter, is the simplest way to score a cheap RV rental East Hills travelers love. Pro tip: filter by Delivery on RVezy so you only see hosts who will drop the RV at your driveway in East Hills or directly at your campground, saving you a fuel-heavy pickup trip into the suburbs.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=East%20Hills,%20New%20YorkWhat license do I need to rent an RV in East Hills?
Good news: a regular New York driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in East Hills. New York State does not require a commercial driver's license (CDL) or special RV endorsement for any motorhome or trailer you would book on RVezy, including Class A, Class C, and fifth wheels. You must be 25 or older to be an approved driver on RVezy, and your ID is verified securely through the platform during checkout. Visiting from outside the U.S.? Bring your home-country license plus an International Driving Permit (IDP), usually under $25 from your local auto club. That's it, you're ready to roll out onto the Long Island Expressway.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsIs RVezy's protection package included when I rent an RV in East Hills?
Yes, every RV rental in East Hills booked through RVezy automatically includes a renter protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can pull out of the driveway with real peace of mind. The protection plan covers most physical damage to the RV during your trip, and you choose your coverage level (a higher tier means a lower deductible) right inside the booking flow. It provides substantial financial protection for renters on Long Island roads. Pro tip: pick your coverage tier before you finalize payment, because it's easier to set the right level up front than to adjust mid-trip.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat if I need to cancel my East Hills RV rental?
Booking is low risk: RVezy sets the cancellation policy for every RV rental in East Hills, and there's a money-back grace period right after you book so you have time to firm up plans. After that, refund eligibility depends on how far out from your trip you cancel and on extenuating circumstances like severe weather, which Long Island can see during nor'easter or hurricane season. Because the policy is handled at the platform level, you'll see the same fair process whether you book a campervan in East Hills or a Class C in nearby Roslyn. Pro tip: message the host first if plans shift, since a date change is often easier than a cancel and rebook.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in East Hills?
Absolutely, plenty of hosts on RVezy offer a pet-friendly RV rental East Hills dog parents love. Just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy and you'll instantly see motorhomes and travel trailers where furry co-pilots are welcome. Once you're on the road, Nassau County has great options like Christopher Morley Park in nearby Roslyn (with a fenced dog run) and Eisenhower Park in East Meadow for stretch-the-legs stops. For longer adventures, Heckscher State Park in East Islip allows leashed pets in designated areas. Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm any pet cleaning fee and to share your dog's size, so check-in on pickup day is smooth and friction-free.
parks.ny.gov/regulations/pets.aspxCan the RV be delivered to my house in East Hills?
Yes, RV delivery East Hills renters love is one of the most popular options on RVezy, especially for first-timers who'd rather skip driving a 25-foot motorhome through Glen Cove Road traffic. Many local hosts will deliver the RV right to your driveway in East Hills, or set it up for you at a campground like Battle Row in Old Bethpage or Wildwood State Park in Wading River. Delivery fees are usually charged per mile from the host's location and are shown clearly on the listing. Pro tip: filter by Delivery on RVezy, then message your top two hosts with your exact East Hills address to compare delivery quotes before you book.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=East%20Hills,%20New%20YorkHow many miles can I drive on my East Hills RV trip?
You've got plenty of range for a great East Hills RV trip. Hosts set their own mileage policies, with most including 100 to 150 free miles per night and some offering an RV rental with unlimited mileage, which is ideal if you're road-tripping off Long Island. From East Hills, the Hamptons are about 75 miles east, Montauk Point is roughly 105 miles, the Catskills run around 130 miles northwest, and Cape Cod is about 230 miles away. Pro tip: use the mileage filter to sort listings, and if you're planning a longer loop (say, East Hills to Niagara Falls and back, around 900 miles round-trip), an unlimited-mileage rental almost always pencils out cheaper than paying overage fees.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/categories/360002342614-RentersWhere are the best campgrounds near East Hills for RV camping?
You're surprisingly well-positioned for RV camping East Hills travelers can reach in under two hours. Battle Row Campground in Old Bethpage (about 12 miles away) is the closest option with electric and water hookups, picnic tables, and a playground. Heckscher State Park in East Islip (around 30 miles) offers RV sites near the Great South Bay. Wildwood State Park in Wading River (about 50 miles) has hundreds of sites on a forested bluff over Long Island Sound, and Hither Hills State Park in Montauk (roughly 105 miles) gives you oceanfront camping. Cedar Point County Park in East Hampton is another local favorite. Pro tip: New York State Parks open reservations 9 months in advance, so set a calendar alert for the morning your target date opens.
parks.ny.gov/parks/wildwood/details.aspxWhen is the best time of year for an RV trip from East Hills, NY?
Late May through mid-October is the sweet spot for an RV road trip from East Hills, with the absolute best windows being June (highs around 78 degrees Fahrenheit, lower humidity) and September into early October (warm 70s, glowing fall foliage, fewer crowds). July and August are warm and humid with highs in the mid-80s, perfect for beach camping at Robert Moses or Hither Hills but busier on the roads. Spring shoulder season in April and May is cool but quiet. Winters in Nassau County run around 25 to 40 degrees with occasional snow, so most local campgrounds close from November through March. Pro tip: book a late-September Montauk site and you'll get summer-like water temps without the summer traffic on the LIE.
weather.gov/okx/I've never done this before. Is renting an RV in East Hills easy for first-timers?
Renting an RV in East Hills is one of the friendliest first time renting an RV experiences you'll find, because every RVezy host gives you a full walkthrough at pickup, covering the slide-outs, water hookups, generator, propane, and dumping the tanks. You're never handed the keys and left to figure it out. Many East Hills hosts also offer delivery and setup at the campground, so your first time behind the wheel can be the easy drive home from the campsite. 24/7 roadside assistance is included with every booking. Pro tip: book a smaller Class C motorhome (around 24 feet) or a travel trailer under 25 feet for your first trip, since they handle Nassau County streets and approved RV routes far more easily than a 35-foot Class A.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/categories/360002342614-RentersWhat happens if something goes wrong on the road?
You're covered around the clock. Every RV rental in East Hills booked on RVezy includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, so if you get a flat tire on the Long Island Expressway, a dead battery at a rest stop, or run out of fuel near the Throgs Neck Bridge, one phone call gets help dispatched. For mechanical questions or how-to issues (like a finicky awning), your host is your second lifeline, since they know their RV inside and out. RVezy's customer support team is also reachable before, during, and after your trip. Pro tip: save the roadside assistance number in your phone and snap a photo of the RV's VIN plate at pickup, that's the first thing dispatch will ask for.
rvezy.com/insurance-and-protectionCan I take my East Hills RV rental into Canada or other states?
Yes, multi-state road trips are totally doable. Most RVezy hosts in East Hills allow travel throughout the continental U.S., so popular routes like East Hills to Acadia National Park in Maine (about 470 miles), Niagara Falls (around 425 miles), Washington D.C. (about 230 miles), or the White Mountains in New Hampshire (around 320 miles) are all on the table. Cross-border trips into Canada are allowed by many hosts, but confirm with the host first and bring your passport. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals due to insurance coverage limits. Pro tip: message the host before booking with your planned route, that way mileage allowance and any border paperwork are sorted before you leave Long Island.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat should I budget for fuel on an RV trip from East Hills?
Fuel is the single biggest variable cost of an RV road trip from East Hills, but it's easy to estimate. Class B campervans get about 18 to 22 MPG, Class C motorhomes average 10 to 14 MPG, and Class A motorhomes typically return 7 to 10 MPG. New York gas prices on Long Island usually run above the national average, so check current rates before you go. A round trip from East Hills to Montauk (about 210 miles) in a Class C will cost roughly $60 to $80 in fuel at typical prices. Pro tip: fill up just over the Nassau-Suffolk line on the LIE, gas tends to be a bit cheaper there than in western Nassau, and a few cents cheaper still in New Jersey if your trip heads west.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground for my East Hills RV trip?
For the most popular New York State Parks near East Hills, book as early as you can: the reservation window opens 9 months in advance through ReserveAmerica. Hither Hills in Montauk and Wildwood in Wading River often sell out for summer weekends within minutes of opening. Battle Row Campground in Old Bethpage (Nassau County's own) is bookable through the county parks system and is easier to grab on shorter notice. For shoulder-season trips in May, September, or October, two to four weeks ahead is usually fine. Pro tip: set a calendar reminder for exactly 9 months before your target Friday arrival, log in a few minutes before the booking window opens, and have your payment info pre-saved.
newyorkstateparks.reserveamerica.com/What are the driving conditions like around East Hills with an RV?
Driving an RV out of East Hills is very manageable once you know two key rules. First, New York's parkways (Northern State, Southern State, Meadowbrook, Wantagh) ban commercial vehicles and have low stone-arch bridge clearances, so you must avoid them in any motorhome or trailer. Use the Long Island Expressway (I-495), Northern Boulevard (NY-25A), and Jericho Turnpike (NY-25) instead, all of which welcome RVs. Second, avoid rush hour: the LIE crawls weekdays from 7 to 10 a.m. westbound and 4 to 7 p.m. eastbound. Pro tip: leave East Hills before 9 a.m. on a Saturday for a Hamptons trip, you'll skip both the daily commuter crunch and the summer beach traffic that builds by midday.
dot.ny.gov/What amenities will I find at campgrounds near East Hills?
Long Island campgrounds are well-equipped for an easy RV stay. Battle Row Campground in Old Bethpage offers electric and water hookups, picnic tables, fire rings, restrooms with hot showers, and a dump station. Wildwood and Heckscher State Parks have electric sites, potable water fill stations, dump stations, flush toilets, and showers. For propane refills near East Hills, AmeriGas and Suburban Propane locations in Westbury and Hicksville handle RV tanks. Battle Row is a reliable year-round dump station option. Pro tip: top off fresh water before you leave the campground spigot and stop at the dump station on your way out rather than mid-trip, that way you arrive home in East Hills with empty tanks and a clean rig, ready to return.
nassaucountyny.gov/1816/Battle-Row-CampgroundWhat's actually inside a typical RV rental from East Hills?
You'll be surprised how loaded modern RVs are. A typical motorhome rental East Hills travelers book includes a queen or king bed, convertible dinette and sofa beds (a Class C usually sleeps 4 to 6), a full kitchen with fridge/freezer, propane stove, microwave, and sink, plus a wet bath with toilet and shower. Most listings also include roof-mounted air conditioning, a propane furnace, a generator or shore-power hookup, a flat-screen TV, and seatbelted seating for every traveler. Many hosts add Wi-Fi hotspots, outdoor speakers, and bike racks as add-ons. Pro tip: filter by Sleeps count and check the listing's amenities checklist for things like a backup camera and solar, which make first-trip parking and boondocking in spots like Montauk a lot easier.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=East%20Hills,%20New%20YorkWhat add-ons and pickup options are available for a campervan rental East Hills hosts offer?
Lots, and they make your trip smoother. A campervan rental East Hills hosts list typically offers add-ons like bed linens and towel packages ($25 to $75), kitchen kits ($25 to $50), camping chairs and outdoor tables ($15 to $30), bike racks, kayaks or SUPs, generators, and Wi-Fi hotspots ($10 to $25 per night). Pickup is usually at the host's home in Nassau or western Suffolk, but many offer delivery to your East Hills address or directly to your campground for a per-mile fee. Mileage allowances generally run 100 to 150 free miles per night, with overage typically charged per additional mile. Pro tip: bundle linens, a kitchen kit, and outdoor gear in one host package, it's usually cheaper than booking each add-on a la carte.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=East%20Hills,%20New%20YorkHow does payment and the security deposit work when I rent an RV in East Hills?
Payment is straightforward and secure. When you book an RV rental in East Hills on RVezy, you pay through the platform with a credit or debit card, never directly to the host, which keeps your money protected. A refundable security deposit (typically a few hundred to a couple thousand dollars depending on the RV) is held on your card before pickup, separate from your booking payment, and released after the host confirms the RV came back in good shape with no extra mileage or generator hours owed. Pro tip: do a quick walkaround video with the host at pickup and again at drop-off, this 60-second habit is the single best way to avoid any deposit disputes and keeps your refund moving quickly.
