Campgrounds near East Meadow
East Meadow sits in central Nassau County on Long Island, roughly 25 miles east of Manhattan. There is no campground inside the hamlet itself, so RV travelers stage at parks along the Long Island shoreline, in Brooklyn, in Rockland County, or across the Hudson in Jersey City. Most sit within a one to two hour drive.
The closest developed option is Floyd Bennett Field, part of Gateway National Recreation Area in Brooklyn, which welcomes both tent and RV camping at a former airfield on Jamaica Bay. East along the South Shore, Heckscher State Park campground offers 67 sites on Long Island's scenic Great South Bay shoreline and accommodates tents and trailers.
For a barrier-island experience, Watch Hill Campground on Fire Island is reachable by ferry from Patchogue. For a mountain setting, Beaver Pond Campground is located just 25 miles north of the George Washington Bridge in Harriman State Park, roughly an hour northwest. Liberty Harbor RV Park in Jersey City is the closest full-hookup option for travelers who want to base themselves near New York City.
Things to do near East Meadow
Eisenhower Park anchors East Meadow itself, with athletic fields, playgrounds, and paved loops for walking and biking. Jones Beach State Park is a short drive south on the Wantagh Parkway and offers ocean swimming, a boardwalk, and a summer concert venue.
From Heckscher State Park, visitors can reach Great South Bay beaches, kayak launches, and paved multi-use trails. Windsurfing, kayaking, canoeing, and paddleboarding are available seasonally, and the park sits directly on the bay.
Harriman State Park delivers a different experience. Among its 46,000 acres are 31 lakes and reservoirs, 200 miles of hiking trails, two beaches, and two public camping areas, and in winter, if conditions allow, lakes may be open for ice fishing and ice skating. From Liberty Harbor, ferries and PATH trains reach Manhattan, the Statue of Liberty, and Ellis Island.

The developed camping season in the region runs roughly late spring through mid-October. Heckscher State Park campgrounds reopen 5/22 through 9/6, while Beaver Pond in Harriman runs from the last Friday in April through the Sunday of Columbus Day weekend in October. Watch Hill operates seasonally from mid-May through mid-October and is run by authorized concessioner LoveFINS.
Summer weekends are the peak. Long Island beaches, Fire Island ferries, and Harriman's swimming beaches all fill quickly from Memorial Day through Labor Day, and reservations should be secured well ahead. Mosquitoes can be a significant problem at the Brooklyn campground from July through October, so campers plan accordingly.
Shoulder months are quieter and cooler. September and early October usually bring mild days, thinner crowds, and open sites midweek. Winter closes most public campgrounds in the area, though Liberty Harbor RV Park in Jersey City stays open year-round.

Here’s the updated version with the host included: RV Trip Review We just got back from our trip and had a great experience with this RV. We rented this RV from August 21–25, and from beginning to end, we had an absolutely wonderful experience. Charlie and Margaret were amazing hosts! Their communication was excellent, and they were always helpful, friendly, responsive, and very professional. They truly made the entire experience easy and enjoyable. The RV itself was beautiful, modern, extremely clean, and very well maintained. As soon as we walked inside, we were impressed. The lighting throughout the RV was fantastic—there were plenty of lights, which made the space feel bright, comfortable, and welcoming. The bathroom was extremely clean and surprisingly spacious. The bedroom was large, comfortable, and cozy, with plenty of storage space for clothes and personal belongings. We never felt cramped at all. The kitchen was one of our favorite features. It was beautiful and spacious, with a long countertop that gave us plenty of room to prepare meals. Charlie and Margaret really thought of everything. The cabinets and drawers were stocked with pots, pans, plates, utensils, and everything else we needed. They even provided plenty of cleaning supplies, including a broom, vacuum, Lysol wipes, and more. What impressed us most was how much this RV truly felt like a home away from home. We had everything we needed—and honestly, even more than we expected. You can tell Charlie and Margaret put a lot of thought and care into making sure their guests are comfortable and have a great experience. Whether you’re going camping, attending an outdoor event, or simply looking for a comfortable RV getaway, I would highly recommend renting from Charlie and Margaret. Beautiful RV, outstanding hosts, excellent communication, and a five-star experience all around. Thank you, Charlie and Margaret, for helping make our trip so comfortable and memorable! We would absolutely rent from you again! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

How to book
New York State Parks, including Heckscher and Beaver Pond, are booked through ReserveAmerica. Campsite reservations can be made for today and up to 9 months in advance, and same-day reservations are allowed until 3 p.m. on day of arrival, either online or through the ReserveAmerica Call Center at 1-800-456-2267. Weekend sites in summer often disappear the moment they open the nine-month window, so setting a calendar reminder helps.
Watch Hill uses a separate system. Watch Hill Family Campground reservations are not available on Recreation.gov; bookings run through the concessioner at lovefins.com, which typically opens reservations in mid-February for the coming season.
Floyd Bennett Field's campground has RV sites without hookups and operates seasonally from spring through late October. Liberty Harbor RV Park is booked directly with the park by phone or through its website.
What to expect
Sites in this region skew primitive by RV-park standards. Heckscher provides restrooms, showers, and picnic tables, with a dump station available on site. Beaver Pond provides full-service bathrooms with showers and laundry facilities, plus a dump station for RVs, however there are no electrical hookups available, and select sites can accommodate a trailer or RV up to 30 ft long.
Watch Hill is a walk-in, tent-oriented barrier-island setting reached by ferry, not an RV destination. At Floyd Bennett Field, RV sites have no water or electric hookups either, but there is a dump station and generators are allowed from 8 AM to 10 PM. For full hookups close to the city, Liberty Harbor is the practical choice, with pull-through sites, showers, laundry, and Wi-Fi.
Pet rules vary. Pets are not permitted at Heckscher campsites or cottages, and pets are not permitted in Beaver Pond Campground or Lake Welch. Liberty Harbor allows leashed pets.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near East Meadow, NY
How much does an RV rental in East Meadow cost per night?
RV rental in East Meadow is more affordable than many expect for the New York metro area. Nightly prices typically start around $150 for compact travel trailers, $200 for Class C motorhomes, and $300+ for larger Class A coaches, with averages near $210 per night. To find a cheap RV rental East Meadow travelers love, book midweek pickups, target shoulder season (April or late September), and use the price filter to sort listings. Trailers are usually the lowest-priced option, but if you do not own a tow vehicle, a drivable Class B campervan rental East Meadow hosts deliver to your driveway can actually cost less once you factor in delivery versus towing setup.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=East%20Meadow,%20New%20YorkWhat license do I need to rent an RV in East Meadow, NY?
Great news for first-timers: your regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in East Meadow for nearly every rig on RVezy. New York issues a standard Class D license, which legally covers any motorhome or trailer combo with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) of 26,000 pounds or less, and that includes virtually every Class B campervan, Class C motorhome, and travel trailer on the platform. You'll need to be 25 or older, and RVezy verifies your ID right inside the booking flow, so there's no extra DMV trip. Visiting from abroad? An International Driving Permit (IDP) paired with your home country license works perfectly for your New York RV trip.
dmv.ny.gov/driver-license/driver-license-class-descriptionsIs the RV protected if something happens during my trip?
Every booking on RVezy comes with a renter protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance built in, so you are covered before you even pull out of the driveway. During checkout you choose your coverage level, and the plan covers most damages to the vehicle, giving you real financial protection beyond a typical car rental. While it is not traditional auto insurance, it is specifically designed for peer-to-peer RV rentals and the kind of trips Long Island renters actually take. Pick a higher-tier plan if you are a first-time renter heading to busy spots like Jones Beach or Robert Moses State Park, as it lowers your out-of-pocket responsibility and lets you focus on the fun.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat happens if I need to cancel my East Meadow RV rental?
Booking is low-risk: RVezy sets a standardized cancellation policy across the platform (hosts do not set their own), and it includes a full money-back grace period right after you book so you can lock in dates with confidence. After the grace period, refund amounts depend on how far out from your trip start date you cancel. If plans shift, open your booking and start the cancellation from your dashboard, and RVezy support is reachable to walk you through it. Most travelers find it far more flexible than a typical hotel or car rental.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in East Meadow?
Yes, plenty of Long Island hosts welcome four-legged co-pilots, so a pet-friendly RV rental East Meadow families love is just a filter away. Switch on the Pet-Friendly filter when you search, and you will see listings whose owners are happy to host dogs (and sometimes cats), often with a small pet fee disclosed upfront. Once you are on the road, Eisenhower Park in East Meadow has a dedicated dog run, and Jones Beach State Park allows leashed dogs on the boardwalk during the off-season. Message the host before booking to confirm breed or size details, and ask if they leave a pet bed or bowls in the RV.
parks.ny.gov/parks/10/details.aspxCan the RV be delivered to me in East Meadow instead of picking it up?
Yes, RV delivery East Meadow renters love is widely available, and it is a game-changer if you are a first-timer or just do not want to drive a big rig through Nassau County traffic. Many hosts on RVezy will bring the motorhome or trailer right to your driveway or a local campground, set it up, level it, hook up power and water if available, and walk you through every system before they leave. Filter by Delivery when searching to see hosts who offer this service, and check each listing for the per-mile delivery fee. Delivery to nearby campgrounds like Battle Row in Old Bethpage (about 6 miles away) is often a flat fee and removes the driving stress entirely.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038818393-RV-deliveryHow many miles can I drive on my East Meadow RV rental?
You will have plenty of road ahead of you: most East Meadow hosts include generous mileage allowances, and some even offer RV rental with unlimited mileage, perfect for a longer RV road trip from East Meadow up to the Adirondacks or down the Jersey Shore. Each listing shows the exact daily mileage included (commonly 100 to 150 miles per day) plus the per-mile rate for any overage, all visible before you confirm. If you are planning a big loop, message the host to ask about a mileage package add-on, which is almost always cheaper than paying overage rates at the end. Most Long Island weekend trips stay well under standard limits, so unlimited mileage is really a bonus for cross-state adventures.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=East%20Meadow,%20New%20YorkWhere can I camp with my RV near East Meadow?
You have real options within a short drive, even though East Meadow itself is suburban. The closest full-hookup spot is Battle Row Campground in Old Bethpage (about 15 minutes away), a Nassau County park with electric and water hookups and a dump station. Heckscher State Park in East Islip (about 30 minutes east) has RV sites with electric near the Great South Bay. For oceanfront RV camping East Meadow weekenders love, Wildwood State Park in Wading River (about an hour east) offers wooded sites near the Long Island Sound bluffs. Liberty Harbor RV Park in Jersey City (about 35 miles) is the go-to if you want skyline views and a ferry into Manhattan. Book Nassau and New York State sites early through the official reservation systems.
parks.ny.gov/camping/When is the best time of year for an RV trip from East Meadow?
Late May through mid-October is the sweet spot for RV camping East Meadow travelers swear by, with daytime highs from the 70s to mid-80s Fahrenheit and warm enough nights for beach bonfires. June and September are the smartest months: campgrounds at Jones Beach, Hither Hills, and Wildwood are open, humidity dips, and prices are noticeably lower than peak July and August. October brings fall foliage along the Long Island Wine Trail and up the Hudson Valley, with cooler nights (40s to 50s Fahrenheit) that an RV furnace handles easily. Winters are cold with January lows in the 20s Fahrenheit, so most local rentals slow down December through March. Book June trips by March to lock in the best rigs.
weather.gov/okx/I have never driven an RV before, will I be okay?
You will be in great shape, and you are in good company since many East Meadow renters are first-timers too. Every RVezy booking includes a hands-on walkthrough at pickup where the host shows you every system: the dashboard, awning, propane, slide-outs, water tanks, and how to dump. Hosts also stay reachable by phone or message throughout your trip, and 24/7 roadside assistance is included with your protection plan if you ever feel stuck. For first time renting an RV, choose a smaller Class C (22 to 26 feet) or a Class B campervan, both of which drive much like a large van. Do your first drive during off-peak hours (avoid 7 to 9 a.m. and 4 to 7 p.m.) to build confidence before hitting busier roads.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat if I break down or have an issue during my trip?
You are never on your own. Every RV rental in East Meadow through RVezy includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, covering tows, flat tires, jump starts, lockouts, and fuel delivery anywhere in the US and Canada. If something mechanical comes up, you call the dedicated roadside line first, and they dispatch help to your location, whether that is the LIE shoulder or a campground in the Catskills. Your host is also a phone call away for quick questions like how to reset the inverter, and RVezy customer support is available for anything else. Snap a photo of the roadside number on the dashboard sticker at pickup so you have it ready before you ever need it.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat are the best road trips I can take from East Meadow?
East Meadow's location on Long Island gives you launch points in every direction. Drive about 95 miles east to Montauk for surf-side camping at Hither Hills State Park. Head 130 miles north into the Hudson Valley for fall foliage, wineries, and Bear Mountain. The Catskills are about 145 miles northwest with hiking, swimming holes, and North/South Lake Campground. Cape Cod is roughly 240 miles northeast, an iconic New England summer run. Cross into New Jersey and the Pocono Mountains are around 115 miles. Canada trips are allowed with most hosts (confirm before booking), but Mexico travel is not permitted on RVezy rentals due to insurance coverage limits. Leave Long Island before 6 a.m. on Fridays to dodge bridge traffic.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityHow much should I budget for fuel on my East Meadow RV trip?
Fuel is one of the bigger trip costs, but it is easy to plan for. Class B campervans get roughly 18 to 22 mpg, Class C motorhomes average 10 to 14 mpg, and Class A coaches run 7 to 10 mpg, while a tow vehicle with a travel trailer lands around 10 to 13 mpg loaded. Long Island gas prices tend to run above the national average, so budget on the higher end when planning. Fuel up off-island in places like Riverhead or just over in New Jersey where prices can drop noticeably, and use a fuel-finder app to compare stations along the LIE before your run.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near East Meadow?
For New York State parks like Heckscher, Wildwood, and Hither Hills, book as soon as your dates are firm, ideally 4 to 6 months ahead for summer weekends, since the New York State reservation system opens a 9-month booking window. Nassau County campgrounds like Battle Row use the county's own reservation system and tend to open bookings about 6 months out. Holiday weekends (Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day) at oceanfront parks fill within minutes of release. If you strike out on a Saturday night, book Sunday through Thursday instead, you will often have your pick of waterfront sites at half the demand, and that is when many RVezy travelers score the best East Meadow RV trip experiences.
newyorkstateparks.reserveamerica.com/What are the driving conditions like around East Meadow?
Long Island driving is manageable in an RV with a little planning. East Meadow sits between the Northern State Parkway and Southern State Parkway, but parkways on Long Island prohibit commercial vehicles and most RVs because of low bridge clearances. Stick to the Long Island Expressway (I-495), avoid the Meadowbrook Parkway in an RV, and use Sunrise Highway (Route 27) heading east. Summer Friday afternoons on the LIE eastbound can crawl, so aim for early morning or post-9 p.m. departures. Winter brings nor'easters with snow and ice from December to March. Program your GPS to RV or truck mode using apps like RV Trip Wizard to automatically route you around low bridges.
511ny.org/What amenities will I find at campgrounds near East Meadow?
Long Island and nearby campgrounds offer a solid range. Battle Row Campground in Old Bethpage has electric and water hookups at every site, hot showers, a dump station, and laundry. Heckscher State Park has electric hookups, restrooms with showers, a dump station near the entrance, and potable water fill stations. Hither Hills in Montauk offers oceanfront sites but no individual hookups, just centralized water, showers, and a dump station, so it is a great spot to test light boondocking. Liberty Harbor RV Park in Jersey City has full hookups (water, sewer, 30/50 amp) and Wi-Fi. Most New York State parks have potable water fill spigots near the entrance and a single dump station, so fill up and dump on your way in and out to avoid the morning checkout line.
parks.ny.gov/camping/What is typically included inside an RVezy rental in East Meadow?
East Meadow rentals come ready to camp. Expect comfortable beds (queen master, convertible dinette, bunk options in family rigs), a full kitchen with stove, microwave, fridge/freezer, sink, cookware, dishes, and utensils, plus a bathroom with toilet, sink, and shower in most Class B, C, and A motorhomes. Air conditioning and a furnace are standard, and most rigs include a stereo and seatbelted seating for everyone you are traveling with. Many hosts also provide bedding, towels, outdoor chairs, and a portable Wi-Fi hotspot or generator. Check the What's Included section on each listing carefully, and message the host to confirm essentials like a backup camera, leveling blocks, or an outdoor shower if those matter for your trip.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=East%20Meadow,%20New%20YorkWhat add-ons and pickup options can I add to my booking?
Most East Meadow hosts offer practical add-ons that make your trip easier. Common ones include delivery and setup (priced per mile or as a flat fee to local campgrounds), generator use packages, portable propane fire pits, bedding and linen kits, bike racks, kayak racks, camping chairs and tables, and Starlink or hotspot Wi-Fi. Mileage policies vary by listing (typically 100 to 150 miles per day included), and you can often buy a larger mileage package upfront at a discount. Pickup is usually at the host's location somewhere in Nassau or Suffolk County, with some offering after-hours pickup for an extra fee. Bundle your add-ons in the original booking rather than after, and your motorhome rental East Meadow trip will be locked in stress-free.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=East%20Meadow,%20New%20YorkHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is straightforward and secure. When you book a rent an RV in East Meadow listing on RVezy, you pay the full rental cost (nightly rate plus fees, taxes, protection plan, and any add-ons) through the platform using a credit or debit card, with no cash changing hands with the host. A refundable security deposit is also placed as a hold on your card before pickup (the exact amount is set per listing), and it is released back to you after return if there is no damage or extra cleaning needed. To avoid issues, do a thorough walkaround at pickup, take date-stamped photos and a quick video, return the RV with fuel and tanks per the agreement, and message your host through RVezy (not text) so there is a record. Clean dishes and take out trash before drop-off, that one step alone protects most of the deposit.
