Greene camping overview
Greene sits in the Chenango River valley in central New York, in Chenango County, roughly midway between Binghamton and Norwich. The area offers a mix of state-park campgrounds with lakes, beaches, and hiking, and privately run RV parks with full hookups. Most sites lie within a 30 to 45 minute drive of town along Route 12, Route 7, or Interstate 88.
Chenango County Cook Park is a small county-run option close to Greene. Farther south near Chenango Forks, Chenango Valley State Park is located adjacent to the Chenango River, in Broome County, with two glacial kettle lakes. To the west, Bowman Lake State Park is located west of Oxford in the town of McDonough, in Chenango County.
Private options include Belden Hill Campgrounds near Harpursville off I-88 and Lighthouse Landing Campground, giving RV travelers a choice between hookup-equipped parks and more rustic state-run sites.
Things to do near Greene
Water activities anchor most trips. Fishermen will find trout, bass, perch, and bullhead in Chenango Lake at Chenango Valley State Park, which also has a beach, boat rentals, and an 18-hole golf course. The lake at Bowman Lake State Park is regularly stocked with trout, and birdwatchers can spot as many as 103 species of birds. There are over 13 miles of scenic trails for hiking as well as marked snowmobile and cross-country trails for winter enjoyment.
Hikers can access the Finger Lakes Trail, which passes through Bowman Lake State Park and links to the Berry Hill Fire Tower. Families staying at Belden Hill Campgrounds have a heated swimming pool, stocked ponds, and a golf course across the road. The Chenango River itself is popular for paddling and smallmouth bass fishing. Off-site, Animal Adventure Park in Harpursville and the village of Oxford draw day trips.

The camping season in this part of New York is short. Chenango Valley State Park has 184 campsites, and camping at the park is available from mid May to Mid-October. Bowman Lake State Park follows a similar window, and Belden Hill runs roughly April through October.
Summer, from late June through August, is peak season. Weekends fill quickly, especially sites with electric hookups, and beaches and boat rentals are fully staffed. At Chenango Valley, the boating season runs April 15 to October 15, and no vessels are permitted on the lake before or after those dates.
Late spring and early fall bring cooler temperatures, fewer bugs, and easier reservations, though swimming beaches may be unstaffed. In winter, snowmobilers and cross-country skiers enjoy outstanding scenery on 13 miles of designated trails at Bowman Lake, and ice fishing is permitted when the lake freezes solidly. State-park campgrounds close for winter camping, so cold-weather trips rely on private parks or day use.

Perfect RV to rent for our family of 5. Plenty of sleeping space. Very clean RV!!! I chose the delivery option, which made it so easy. Alex showed up exactly when he said and set everything up for us. He was very thorough showing us how everything works, etc. I would 100 percent recommend this RV. We will be renting from him again in the future!

Anthony was excellent to communicate with. The Koala trailer filled out needs at the Pocano race weekend. Good mechanical, no leaks, hauled well behind my 1500 Denali. I'll look this one up again if we go to Pocano or The Glen.

How to book campsites near Greene
New York State Parks use a single reservation system. Same-day reservations are allowed until 3 p.m. on day of arrival; this applies to campsites only. Reservations can be made online or through the ReserveAmerica Call Center. Walk-ins are permitted on campsites only. Campsite reservations must be made 1 day ahead of arrival and can be made up to 9 months in advance, so summer weekends should be booked as early as possible.
A camping party and their equipment may occupy a site for a maximum of 14 continuous nights, after which the party must leave the facility before registering again.
Private campgrounds such as Belden Hill Campgrounds and Lighthouse Landing Campground book directly through their own websites or third-party platforms and often have more flexible cancellation windows than the state system.
What to expect at Greene campgrounds
State-park sites in this region are wooded and spacious but often rustic. Bowman Lake offers dry camping only, with no water, electric, or sewer hookups at individual sites. However, the park does provide flush toilets, hot showers, and a dump station. Sites can accommodate RVs up to 40 feet. Chenango Valley has some electric sites and both parks accept larger rigs.
Private parks fill the hookup gap. Belden Hill has Big Rig-friendly sites with 50-amp service and full hookups, including water, sewer, and electricity, with 80-foot pull-through sites.
This is bear country, so food, garbage, coolers, and other containers should not be left unattended. Cell service is spotty in the more remote state parks.

How much does it cost to rent an RV in Greene, NY?
RV rental in Greene, NY is one of the more affordable ways to experience Central New York's Chenango Valley. On RVezy, travel trailers typically run about $80 to $175 per night, Class C motorhomes range from $175 to $295, and larger Class A coaches sit in the $250 to $400 range. Because Greene is a small Chenango County town rather than a big tourist hub, you can often find better rates here than in nearby Cooperstown or Binghamton. rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Greene%2C%20New%20YorkDo I need a special license to rent an RV in Greene, NY?
Good news: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Greene, NY. New York State does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) for any RV under 26,000 pounds, which covers essentially every motorhome and travel trailer on RVezy. RVezy's approved driver requirements generally ask renters to be at least 25 years old, and ID verification happens quickly through the platform when you book. Visiting from outside the U.S.? Bring an International Driving Permit (IDP) along with your home license and you're set. Most first-time renters are surprised how straightforward it is to get on the road toward Chenango Valley State Park.

Every RVezy booking in Greene includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can hit the back roads of Chenango County with real peace of mind. You choose your coverage level (not the host) during checkout, picking the plan that fits your comfort, and the protection package covers most damage to the vehicle during your trip. While it isn't traditional auto insurance, it provides meaningful financial protection in the rare event something goes wrong. That means if you're parked at Cook Park and discover a small ding the next morning, you're not on the hook for the full repair cost. Book with confidence and focus on the adventure ahead.

Winter rentals are limited here since temperatures regularly drop into the teens with significant snowfall, so most hosts open their calendars from April through October.
weather.gov/bgm/I've never driven an RV before. Will I be okay around Greene?
You're going to do great, and Greene, NY is one of the friendlier places in the Northeast for first time renting an RV. Traffic is light, Route 12 and Route 206 are wide two-lane roads with gentle grades, and you won't encounter the steep mountain passes you'd face in the Adirondacks or Catskills. Every RVezy host gives a hands-on orientation at pickup, walking you through the generator, slide-outs, tanks, hookups, and propane before you drive off. You can also message hosts beforehand with any questions through the RVezy app. Pro tip: practice a few low-speed turns and parking maneuvers in a spacious lot before heading to your campsite. By night two you'll feel confident behind the wheel.

Roadside assistance covers things like flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, and towing to the nearest qualified service location. Your host is also a direct resource through the RVezy app and usually knows local mechanics. The roadside number is provided in your booking confirmation, so save it to your phone before you leave the driveway and you'll never feel stranded in rural Chenango County.

Travel into Mexico is not permitted on any RVezy rental due to insurance limitations. Popular multi-state loops from Greene include Cooperstown to Lake Placid (about 5 hours), the Finger Lakes wine trail (around 2 hours west), and a Catskills foliage run (roughly 3 hours east).

eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book campgrounds near Greene?

help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106274-Your-pickup-walkthroughHow do payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment and deposits on RVezy are straightforward and secure. You pay the full booking amount through the RVezy platform when you reserve, never directly to the host, which keeps everything tracked and protected. A refundable security deposit (set by the host, typically a few hundred to a few thousand dollars for a Greene, NY rental) is pre-authorized on your card before your trip starts and released after drop-off, assuming the RV comes back in the same condition. To avoid any holds on your deposit, take time-stamped photos at pickup and drop-off, refill propane and fuel as agreed, and dump the tanks at the campground before returning.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksAre RV rentals in Greene available in winter, and how do they handle the cold?
Winter RV rentals in Greene, NY are available but limited, since many hosts winterize their rigs from late October through April when overnight lows regularly drop into the teens and single digits. If you're chasing a snowy adventure, search early and message hosts directly, asking about heated holding tanks, enclosed underbellies, a working furnace, and shore power capability for staying warm. Some Chenango County RV parks stay open year-round for hardy campers, and Chenango Valley State Park is gorgeous under fresh snow for cross-country skiing. Pro tip: if you're new to cold-weather RVing, book a host who specializes in four-season rigs and ask them to demo the heated water system at pickup.
