Camping near New Cassel, New York
New Cassel sits in central Nassau County on Long Island, roughly 25 miles east of Manhattan. There is no campground within the hamlet itself, so RV travelers base trips around the region's state parks, national seashore units, and private urban RV parks. Most drivable options fall along the south shore of Long Island, north of the city in the Hudson Highlands, or across the harbor in New Jersey.
The closest publicly managed camping is at Heckscher State Park on the Great South Bay, about 30 miles east in East Islip. Watch Hill Campground, on Fire Island, is reachable only by passenger ferry with gear, so it does not suit RV travelers. Beaver Pond Campground at Harriman State Park sits about an hour northwest and offers wooded sites near Lake Welch in the Lower Hudson Valley.
For travelers who want to stage an RV close to New York City sightseeing, Liberty Harbor RV Park in Jersey City and the seasonal Floyd Bennett Field campground within Gateway National Recreation Area are the two urban-adjacent choices.
Things to do near New Cassel
From a base at Heckscher State Park, visitors can swim at the park beach on the Great South Bay, launch kayaks and paddleboards, and use the paved multi-use trails that loop through the park. Picnicking and fishing are available all year, even when the campground is closed.
Harriman State Park, home to Beaver Pond Campground, offers hiking on sections of the Appalachian Trail, swimming at Lake Welch, and freshwater fishing. Watch Hill on Fire Island provides access to a lifeguarded ocean beach, salt-marsh boardwalks, and ranger programs during the summer season.
Urban-based campers at Floyd Bennett Field or Liberty Harbor RV Park use their site as a launch pad for Manhattan museums, Coney Island, Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge birding, and subway or PATH trips into the city.

The prime camping window in the New Cassel area runs from late spring through early fall. Heckscher State Park's campground operates on a defined seasonal schedule, currently listed as opening in late May and closing in early September, with a maximum stay of 14 consecutive nights. Beaver Pond at Harriman opens on the last Friday in April and closes after the Sunday of Columbus Day weekend, giving it a longer shoulder season than most Long Island options.
April, May, and October bring cooler nights and fewer bugs, but many campground amenities such as swimming areas, camp stores, and cottage rentals wind down after Labor Day. Fire Island's Watch Hill typically operates only during the warm-weather months tied to ferry service.
Winter camping options are very limited in the immediate metro area. Liberty Harbor RV Park in Jersey City is one of the few sites that operates year-round, which makes it the default choice for cold-season visits to the region.

We rented this RV from August 21–25, and from beginning to end, we had an absolutely wonderful experience. Charlie and Margaret were amazing hosts! Their communication was excellent, and they were always helpful, friendly, responsive, and very professional. They truly made the entire experience easy and enjoyable. The RV itself was beautiful, modern, extremely clean, and very well maintained. As soon as we walked inside, we were impressed. The lighting throughout the RV was fantastic—there were plenty of lights, which made the space feel bright, comfortable, and welcoming. The bathroom was extremely clean and surprisingly spacious. The bedroom was large, comfortable, and cozy, with plenty of storage space for clothes and personal belongings. We never felt cramped at all. The kitchen was one of our favorite features. It was beautiful and spacious, with a long countertop that gave us plenty of room to prepare meals. Charlie and Margaret really thought of everything. The cabinets and drawers were stocked with pots, pans, plates, utensils, and everything else we needed. They even provided plenty of cleaning supplies, including a broom, vacuum, Lysol wipes, and more. What impressed us most was how much this RV truly felt like a home away from home. We had everything we needed—and honestly, even more than we expected. You can tell Charlie and Margaret put a lot of thought and care into making sure their guests are comfortable and have a great experience. Whether you’re going camping, attending an outdoor event, or simply looking for a comfortable RV getaway, I would highly recommend renting from Charlie and Margaret. Beautiful RV, outstanding hosts, excellent communication, and a five-star experience all around. Thank you, Charlie and Margaret, for helping make our trip so comfortable and memorable! We would absolutely rent from you again! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

How to book campgrounds near New Cassel
Heckscher State Park and Beaver Pond both book through the New York State Parks portal on ReserveAmerica. Camping reservations can be made for today and up to nine months in advance on a rolling window. Same-day reservations are allowed until 3 p.m. on the day of arrival for campsites, reservations can be made online or through the ReserveAmerica call center, and walk-ins are permitted on campsites only.
Floyd Bennett Field and Watch Hill Campground are federal sites booked through Recreation.gov, and advance reservations are required. Liberty Harbor RV Park handles reservations directly through its own website and typically requires a deposit at the time of booking.
What to expect at campgrounds near New Cassel
Sites in the region skew rustic. Heckscher provides restrooms, showers, a dump station, and picnic tables, with hookup availability varying by site. Pets are not permitted at Heckscher campsites or cottages. Beaver Pond offers tent, platform, and a small number of RV sites without hookups, accommodating rigs up to about 30 feet in a wooded setting near Lake Welch.
For full hookups near the city, Liberty Harbor RV Park is the reliable choice, with paved sites in an industrial-urban marina setting rather than a natural one. Floyd Bennett Field has tent and RV parking sites on a concrete plaza with vault toilets and showers but no electric or water hookups.
Traffic on the Long Island Expressway and Belt Parkway is heavy on summer Fridays and Sunday evenings, so travelers should plan arrivals and departures midweek or off-peak when possible.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near New Cassel, NY
How much does it cost to rent an RV in New Cassel, NY?
RV rental in New Cassel is more affordable than most people expect, especially compared to Long Island hotel rates in peak season. On RVezy, you'll typically find travel trailers from around $90 to $175 per night, Class C motorhomes from $175 to $300, and larger Class A rigs higher up the scale. Hosts set their own pricing, mileage policies, and add-ons, so you can filter by budget to land a cheap RV rental in New Cassel that still has the comforts you want. Pro tip: midweek pickups in May or late September often shave 20-30% off summer rates, and bundling delivery with a 5-7 night stay usually unlocks the best per-night value.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=New%20Cassel%2C%20New%20YorkWhat license do I need to rent an RV in New Cassel?
Great news: a standard driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in New Cassel. New York does not require a commercial driver's license (CDL) or any special RV endorsement for the motorhomes and travel trailers you'll find on RVezy. Approved drivers are generally 25 or older, and your ID is verified through the RVezy platform during booking. Visiting from outside the U.S.? Pair your home license with an International Driving Permit (IDP) from your local auto association before your trip. Most first-time renters are surprised how smooth the process is, and your host walks you through the rig at pickup so you'll feel confident before driving off.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsIs RV rental in New Cassel protected if something goes wrong?
Yes, every RV rental in New Cassel booked through RVezy comes with a renter protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance built right into your reservation. The protection plan helps cover damage to the vehicle, giving you peace of mind without the hassle of arranging third-party coverage. During booking you'll choose the protection level that fits your trip, whether you're heading out for a weekend at Battle Row Campground or a longer Long Island RV trip. This lets you focus on enjoying the Hempstead Plains and Jones Beach instead of worrying about what-ifs. Renters consistently say this built-in coverage is what makes booking feel low-stress.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat if I need to cancel my New Cassel RV rental?
Booking feels low-risk because RVezy, not the individual host, manages the cancellation policy for every reservation. There's a money-back grace period right after you book, and beyond that, refund eligibility depends on how far out you are from your trip start date. You won't see a cancellation policy on the listing itself because it's handled centrally by RVezy, keeping things consistent and fair. If life gets in the way, reach out to RVezy support and they'll walk you through your options so you can rebook your New Cassel adventure with confidence.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in New Cassel?
Absolutely, pet-friendly RV rental in New Cassel is easy to find on RVezy. Toggle the Pet-Friendly filter when searching and you'll see listings from hosts who happily welcome dogs (and sometimes cats). Many local hosts provide bowls, blankets, or a small pet fee instead of a large deposit. Once you've got your rig, head to nearby Eisenhower Park, which has miles of leashed-dog-friendly paths just minutes from New Cassel, or drive east to Wildwood State Park in Wading River where leashed pets are allowed in designated campsites. Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm any pet rules and let them know your dog's size.
nassaucountyny.gov/1832/Eisenhower-ParkCan the RV be delivered to me in New Cassel?
Yes, RV delivery in New Cassel is one of the most popular options on RVezy, and it's a game-changer if you're nervous about navigating Long Island traffic or the Long Island Expressway in a big rig. Many local hosts will drive the RV directly to your home, to Battle Row Campground in Old Bethpage, or to other Long Island campgrounds, then handle the setup and walk you through every system on board. Filter by Delivery when searching, then message the host with your destination address for a custom quote. This is the smoothest way to start a first-time RV rental because you skip the driving stress entirely and step into a campsite that's already level, plugged in, and ready.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038984714-Delivery-options-for-your-rentalHow far can I travel on a New Cassel RV trip?
You've got incredible range from New Cassel because it sits in the middle of Long Island with easy access to the LIE and Northern State Parkway. Within about 2 hours you can reach Montauk Point (around 100 miles east) or the Hamptons beaches. Head north and you're roughly 3 hours from the Catskills or 4-5 hours from Lake George in the Adirondacks. Many RVezy hosts offer RV rental with unlimited mileage or generous daily allowances, so check the listing's mileage policy before booking. Pro tip: if you're planning a longer RV road trip from New Cassel, message hosts who offer unlimited miles, since an East End Long Island round trip can easily add 250+ miles.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=New%20Cassel%2C%20New%20YorkWhere can I camp near New Cassel with an RV?
You've got several great options for RV camping near New Cassel without driving far. Battle Row Campground in Old Bethpage (about 10 minutes away) is a Nassau County park with sites and water/electric hookups for RVs, making it the closest real RV campground. Heading east on the LIE, Wildwood State Park in Wading River (about an hour) offers hookups and Long Island Sound beach access. Hither Hills State Park in Montauk is the famous oceanfront pick (about 2 hours east), and Cedar Point County Park near East Hampton is another scenic Suffolk County option. For best campgrounds near New Cassel, book Battle Row through Nassau County Parks and state parks through ReserveAmerica.
nassaucountyny.gov/1811/CampgroundsWhen is the best time to rent an RV in New Cassel?
Late May through early October is prime time for RV camping in New Cassel, with the sweet spot being June and September when daytime highs sit in the comfortable 70s to low 80s and humidity is lower than the July-August peak. Summer (July-August) brings highs around 84F and is peak beach season at Jones Beach and Robert Moses, so book early. Fall foliage starts mid-October and is beautiful for a Long Island RV trip out to the North Fork wineries. Winter rentals are available from some hosts, but most Long Island campgrounds close after Columbus Day. Pro tip: target the second week of September for warm ocean water, fewer crowds, and noticeably lower nightly rates.
weather.gov/okx/I've never rented an RV before. Will I be okay in New Cassel?
You'll be in great shape, even if it's your first time renting an RV. Every RVezy host gives you a hands-on orientation at pickup, walking you through the generator, slide-outs, water systems, propane, and dump procedures so nothing feels mysterious. You can message the host with questions before you even book, and many New Cassel-area hosts offer delivery so you skip the city driving entirely. Once you're on the road, 24/7 roadside assistance included with your protection plan is just a phone call away. Pro tip for first-time renters in New Cassel: pick a smaller Class C motorhome or campervan rental in New Cassel for your first trip, and aim for Battle Row Campground nearby so you can practice setting up before tackling a longer journey.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/categories/360002180693-Renting-an-RVWhat happens if the RV breaks down during my trip?
You're never on your own. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, so if you get a flat, lose power, or have a mechanical issue anywhere from the LIE to Montauk Highway, one phone call gets help dispatched. Your host is typically just a text away for quick questions, like how to reset the generator or where the breaker box lives. New York has plentiful service centers along major routes (I-495, Route 27, the Northern State), so help is rarely far off. Pro tip: snap a quick photo of the RV's roadside assistance card and your host's number at pickup so they're saved on your phone before you leave New Cassel.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityCan I take a New Cassel RV rental into Canada or other states?
Cross-border and interstate travel is often possible, and New Cassel is well placed for it with the Canadian border at Niagara Falls or Lake Champlain roughly 6-7 hours away. Many RVezy hosts allow travel throughout the U.S. and into Canada, but confirm directly with the host before booking since coverage and host preferences vary by listing. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because the protection plan doesn't extend there. Popular interstate routes from New Cassel include New England fall foliage loops through Vermont and New Hampshire, the Jersey Shore, and Washington D.C. (about 4.5 hours south). Message the host to confirm your itinerary and you're set.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat kind of fuel mileage and budget should I plan for?
Plan smart and fuel costs won't blow up the budget. Class C motorhomes typically get 8-12 mpg, campervans 15-20 mpg, and travel trailers depend on the tow vehicle (usually 10-14 mpg combined). Long Island gas prices tend to run higher than the national average, so check current pump prices before your trip when budgeting. For a typical 300-mile weekend loop out to Montauk and back in a Class C, plan for roughly 25-35 gallons of fuel. Pro tip: fill up off-island in Pennsylvania or upstate New York when possible on a longer RV road trip from New Cassel, where gas is often noticeably cheaper than on Long Island.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far ahead should I book a campground near New Cassel?
For summer weekends on Long Island, book your campground as early as possible, ideally the day reservations open. New York State Parks like Wildwood and Hither Hills release sites 9 months in advance through ReserveAmerica, and prime July-August dates can sell out within minutes. Battle Row Campground bookings go through Nassau County Parks directly. For midweek stays or shoulder season (May, September, October), you can often book a few weeks out. Pro tip: if your first-choice site is taken, keep checking back, since campers cancel often and Long Island RV camping spots become available right up until your travel date.
newyorkstateparks.reserveamerica.com/What's it like driving an RV around New Cassel and Long Island?
It's very manageable with a little planning. New Cassel sits just off the Northern State Parkway, but here's the key: parkways on Long Island (Northern State, Southern State, Meadowbrook, Wantagh) ban commercial vehicles and most RVs due to low bridge clearances. Stick to the Long Island Expressway (I-495), Sunrise Highway (Route 27), and Route 25 for safe RV travel. Traffic is heaviest weekday rush hours and Friday summer afternoons heading east, so aim to roll out mid-morning or after 7 PM. Pro tip: pick up your RV in New Cassel, head straight to the LIE eastbound, and you'll be at Wildwood State Park in just over an hour with no parkway worries.
dot.ny.gov/What hookups and amenities will I find at campgrounds near New Cassel?
Long Island campgrounds are well-equipped for a smooth stay. Battle Row Campground (10 minutes from New Cassel) offers electric and water hookups at most of its sites, plus a dump station, restrooms, and showers. Wildwood State Park has hookups in its RV loop, and Hither Hills offers electric and water with a central dump station. You'll find potable water fill stations at all three, and most sites include a picnic table and fire ring. Pro tip: if your rental doesn't have a built-in fresh water hose or sewer hose, ask your host before pickup. Many include them as a free add-on, saving you a hardware store run on day one of your Long Island RV adventure.
parks.ny.gov/camping/What features and amenities come with a typical New Cassel RV rental?
Today's RVs are basically apartments on wheels. A typical motorhome rental in New Cassel includes a queen or king bed, full kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave, sink, a wet or dry bathroom with shower and toilet, dinette, climate control, and 30-amp shore power. Many also include a TV, Bluetooth speakers, generator, awning, and seatbelted passenger seats (always check the seatbelt count when traveling with kids). Wi-Fi is host-dependent, so confirm if you need to work on the road. Add-ons vary: bedding packages, camping chairs, bike racks, kayak mounts, and generator hours are common host extras. Pro tip: filter by sleeps count and message the host to confirm exactly which features come standard versus as paid add-ons before locking in your booking.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=New%20Cassel%2C%20New%20YorkWhat add-ons, pickup logistics, and mileage policies should I expect?
Hosts in New Cassel offer a lot of flexibility to customize your trip. Common add-ons include delivery (often a per-mile fee from the host's location), generator usage packages, kitchen kits, linens, outdoor gear like camp chairs and grills, and pet cleaning fees. Pickup is typically at the host's home or a nearby meet-up spot, with a 45-60 minute walkthrough included. Mileage policies vary: some hosts offer 100-150 free miles per night with a per-mile fee beyond that, while others include RV rental with unlimited mileage, which is ideal for a longer RV road trip from New Cassel out to Montauk or up to the Adirondacks. Pro tip: filter for Instant Book listings if you're booking last-minute so you don't wait on host approval.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/categories/360002180693-Renting-an-RVHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is straightforward and secure. When you book your RV rental in New Cassel through RVezy, you pay the full rental amount through the platform, so there's no cash changing hands with the host. A refundable security deposit is held separately from your booking payment, with the exact amount set per listing and typically ranging from a few hundred to a couple thousand dollars depending on the rig. As long as the RV is returned in the same condition with a full tank and clean interior, the deposit is released after your trip. Pro tip: take date-stamped photos of the RV inside and out at pickup and dropoff to make any deposit questions a non-issue.
