Campgrounds near Nyack
Nyack sits on the west bank of the Hudson River in Rockland County, roughly 25 miles north of the George Washington Bridge. The location puts RV travelers within easy reach of two very different camping worlds: the wooded state parks of the lower Hudson Valley to the north and west, and the urban RV parks that serve as basecamps for New York City.
The closest state-park option is Beaver Pond Campground inside Harriman State Park, a roughly 46,000-acre park in Rockland County with 125 sites, some able to accommodate trailers or RVs up to 30 feet. Further north in Putnam County, Clarence Fahnestock State Park has a campground on the western side of Pelton Pond, though the main campground is temporarily closed for bathhouse construction and only the Group Wilderness Campground is operating. Camp Wyanokie offers a rustic option across the state line in the New Jersey Highlands.
For RVers who want to sleep near Manhattan, Liberty Harbor RV Park in Jersey City is the closest full-service RV park to New York City and caters to all RV types with electric and water hookups. Floyd Bennett Field, part of Gateway National Recreation Area, adds a National Park Service option inside Brooklyn when its campground is operating.
Things to do near Nyack
Harriman State Park is the main outdoor draw. The park has more than 200 miles of trails ranging from easy to strenuous, 31 lakes, two beaches, and lake activities including swimming, fishing, paddling, boating, ice fishing, and ice skating. Lake Welch has a swimming beach within walking distance of Beaver Pond Campground.
At Clarence Fahnestock, a section of the Appalachian Trail passes through the park, and Canopus Lake has a sandy beach, boat rentals, and a summer concession stand, with fishing for bass, pickerel, perch, and trout, plus a trail network that includes the 1.5-mile Pelton Pond loop.
From Liberty Harbor, ferries and the PATH train reach lower Manhattan in minutes. At Floyd Bennett Field, visitors can bike the flat runways, tour historic hangars, and paddle Jamaica Bay.

Camping season in the surrounding state parks runs spring through fall. Beaver Pond opens in April for walk-in camping only, then runs its regular reservation season from early May through mid-October. The main Pelton Pond campground at Clarence Fahnestock is currently closed for bathhouse construction, while the Group Wilderness Campground operates by phone reservation through the park office; in normal seasons the drive-in campground runs from mid-May through early November with a 40-foot RV length limit. Camp Gateway Brooklyn at Floyd Bennett Field, when operating, typically opens from mid-May through mid-October, but has had recent seasonal closures, so travelers should confirm status on recreation.gov before planning around it.
Summer weekends fill first. Harriman is a favored weekend getaway for New Yorkers, so weekend bookings should be made as far in advance as possible. September and early October bring cooler nights, fewer bugs, and Hudson Valley fall color, and remain a strong window for RV trips.
Winter narrows the options. Most state-park campgrounds close, though Liberty Harbor RV Park is open year-round and accepts late check-ins, giving continuous access to the metro area. Fahnestock Winter Park offers groomed trails for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing, plus a sledding area and warming lodge.

Here’s the updated version with the host included: RV Trip Review We just got back from our trip and had a great experience with this RV. The vehicle was clean, comfortable, and ran really well throughout the entire trip. It had plenty of space for the family and made traveling together easy and enjoyable. Everything worked as expected, and we felt comfortable and confident on the road. The host was also incredibly supportive, friendly, and easy to communicate with. They made the whole rental experience smooth and stress-free. It was a great RV for a family trip(5 people), and we would definitely rent from this host again!

How to book campgrounds near Nyack
New York State Park sites are booked through the state's Reserve America portal. Reservations can be made up to nine months in advance, with sites opening at the nine-month window at 8 AM on weekdays and 9 AM on weekends between March 15 and Labor Day. From mid-May to early October, same-day reservations are permitted only until 3 PM, and walk-ins are not allowed at Harriman. Fahnestock's Group Wilderness Campground is reserved by calling the park office directly.
Floyd Bennett Field's Camp Gateway Brooklyn uses the federal system when open, with reservations at recreation.gov up to six months in advance and a 14-night maximum stay.
Liberty Harbor RV Park takes reservations directly by phone or through its website. Weekend and holiday windows sell out earliest across every option in the area, so lock in dates as soon as booking windows open.
What to expect
Expect a mix of primitive state-park sites and urban hookup lots. Beaver Pond is primitive with no hookups and is best suited to tent campers, but can accommodate smaller RVs, trailers, and campervans up to 30 feet. It has full-service bathrooms with showers, laundry, and a dump station, but no electrical hookups. Pets are not permitted, and only one vehicle is allowed at each campsite.
Clarence Fahnestock has been a primitive campground as well, with no electric, water, or sewer hookups and no dump station, and RVs need to be self-contained. Liberty Harbor is a basic but practical option with a prime location, essentially a paved lot with hookups rather than a traditional campground, with sites close together and minimal privacy.
Black bears live in Harriman and Bear Mountain, so food should be stored properly, and deer ticks are present on trails from spring through fall.

How much does it cost to rent an RV in Nyack?
RV rental in Nyack is more affordable than many Hudson Valley travelers expect. On RVezy, travel trailers typically start around $90 to $150 per night, campervans run $150 to $250, and larger Class A or Class C motorhomes range from $200 to $400 per night, depending on age, season, and amenities. You can save by booking midweek, traveling in May or late September, and choosing a host who offers delivery so you skip the rental car shuffle. Hosts based in nearby Rockland or Westchester County often offer competitive nightly rates. Use the price filter on RVezy to find a cheap RV rental Nyack travelers can book with confidence.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Nyack%2C%20New%20YorkWhat license do I need to rent an RV in Nyack, NY?
Great news for first-time renters: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Nyack, NY. New York State does not require a special RV license or a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) for any motorhome or trailer available on RVezy, including Class A coaches. You'll need to be 25 or older, and RVezy verifies your ID securely through the platform during booking, so there's no extra DMV paperwork. Visiting from outside the United States? Grab an International Driving Permit (IDP) from your home country's auto association before you fly, and you're ready to roll across the Hudson Valley.
dmv.ny.gov/driver-license/driver-licensesIs RV rental in Nyack covered by insurance and roadside assistance?
Yes, and this is one of the best reasons to book through RVezy. Every RV rental in Nyack comes with a renter protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance included, so you are covered from pickup to drop-off. You choose your protection level during checkout (not the host), so you can match coverage to your trip. If you get a flat on Route 9W or need a jump at Bear Mountain, one call dispatches a technician. It removes the biggest worry first-time renters have when they rent an RV in Nyack.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat is the cancellation policy if my Nyack RV trip changes?
Booking is low-risk. RVezy (not the individual host) sets the cancellation policy, which includes a money-back grace period right after you book so you can lock in your dates with confidence. The exact refund amount after that depends on how far in advance you cancel, and there are additional protections for situations like host cancellations. Policy details are handled at the platform level rather than on individual listings. If plans shift, log into your RVezy account or message support and they will walk you through your options.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in Nyack?
Yes, and the Hudson Valley is a dream for dogs. Filter for a pet-friendly RV rental in Nyack on RVezy to see hosts who welcome four-legged guests, and message them about any size or breed preferences. Once you are rolling, take your pup to Nyack Beach State Park on the Hudson (leashed dogs welcome on the riverfront path), or hit the trails at Hook Mountain and Rockland Lake State Park just minutes north. Heads up: Beaver Pond Campground inside Harriman State Park has limited pet-designated loops, so confirm a pet-friendly site at booking or consider Black Bear Campground in Florida, NY, or Croton Point Park across the river, both of which are dog-friendly.
parks.ny.gov/parks/nyackbeachCan the RV be delivered to me in Nyack?
Yes, RV delivery in Nyack is one of the smartest moves for first-time renters. Many RVezy hosts in Rockland and Westchester counties will deliver the RV directly to your campground, driveway, or marina parking lot, set it up, connect the hookups, and walk you through everything before they leave. That means no white-knuckle drive over the Mario Cuomo Bridge on day one. Use the Delivery filter when you search, then message the host to confirm the fee, which is usually based on mileage from their home base. Popular drop-off spots include Beaver Pond Campground at Harriman and Croton Point Park along the Hudson.
parks.ny.gov/parks/harrimanHow far can I travel on a Nyack RV trip?
You can cover serious ground from Nyack, and many hosts offer generous daily mileage allowances (some even list RV rental with unlimited mileage). From Nyack you're 35 miles to Manhattan, 90 miles to the Catskills, about 150 miles to the Pocono Mountains, roughly 220 miles to Niagara Falls country via the Thruway, and around 250 miles to Acadia-bound routes through New England. Each host sets their own mileage policy, so check the listing or message before you book if you're planning a long Nyack RV trip. Pro tip: if you're eyeing Lake Placid or the Finger Lakes, ask about a mileage bundle upfront, which is almost always cheaper than paying per-mile overage at return.
thruway.ny.gov/travelers/index.htmlWhere are the best campgrounds near Nyack?
You have great options nearby. The best campgrounds near Nyack include Beaver Pond Campground inside Harriman State Park (about 15 miles northwest, with sites that fit many RVs, no electric hookups, ideal for self-contained RV camping in Nyack), Sebago Cabin Camp on Lake Sebago for a rustic feel, Black Bear Campground in Florida, NY (about 35 miles out, with full hookups and a pool), Croton Point Park across the Hudson with year-round RV sites and river views, and the New York City North/Newburgh KOA in Plattekill area, with full hookups and easy Thruway access. Book Harriman well ahead, especially for summer weekends.
parks.ny.gov/parks/harrimanWhen is the best time of year to rent an RV in Nyack?
Late April through October is prime RV season in Nyack, with two standout windows. Spring (mid-April to early June) brings 55 to 75 degree Fahrenheit days, blooming dogwoods along Route 9W, and lighter campground crowds. Fall (mid-September to late October) is the showstopper: Hudson Valley foliage peaks in mid-October with crisp 50 to 65 degree days, and Nyack's Halloween Parade and Octoberfest draw huge crowds. Summer is hot and humid (80s with occasional thunderstorms) but perfect for swimming at Lake Welch. Winter rentals are available from a smaller pool of cold-weather-ready hosts, since most NY campgrounds close from November to April. Pro tip: book a fall foliage week by mid-summer; locals know this and rigs disappear fast.
weather.gov/okx/I'm a first-time RV renter. Will I be comfortable in Nyack?
Yes, and Nyack is actually a great place for first time renting an RV. Every RVezy host provides a hands-on orientation at pickup, walking you through the generator, leveling, slide-outs, water system, and dump procedures before you leave, and most hosts are reachable by text the entire trip if anything pops up. The roads around Nyack are well-marked and Route 9W gives you a low-stress drive north along the river, away from Manhattan congestion. If you're nervous about bridges or city driving, request delivery and start your trip already parked at a campground. RVezy's 24/7 support team is also a phone call away from your first night to your last.
dmv.ny.gov/more-info/drivers-manual-and-practice-testsWhat happens if something goes wrong on the road?
You're never on your own. Every RV rental in Nyack, NY includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection package, covering flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, fuel delivery, and towing if needed. One call gets a technician dispatched to your location, whether you're stuck on the Palisades Interstate Parkway, parked at Bear Mountain, or making your way up the Thruway. Your host is also a great first call for quick questions, like how to reset the inverter or troubleshoot the water pump. And RVezy's customer support team is reachable any hour of the day for booking issues, mechanical concerns, or just peace of mind.
thruway.ny.gov/travelers/index.htmlCan I take my Nyack RV rental into Canada or other states?
Multi-state RV road trip from Nyack is totally doable, and you can drive freely into New Jersey, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Vermont, and beyond with no special paperwork. Cross-border travel into Canada is sometimes allowed, but it depends on the host and the insurance terms on that specific rental, so message the host before booking if Quebec or Ontario is in your plans, and bring your passport. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on any RVezy rental because the insurance does not extend there. Popular interstate routes from Nyack include the Berkshires (90 miles), Cape Cod (250 miles), and Acadia via coastal Maine.
cbp.gov/travel/us-citizens/know-before-you-goWhat kind of fuel mileage and gas budget should I plan for?
Plan smart and the fuel cost won't surprise you. Class B campervans average 18 to 22 miles per gallon (mpg), Class C motorhomes get 10 to 14 mpg, travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle (usually 10 to 15 mpg), and Class A coaches run 7 to 10 mpg. New York gas prices typically run a bit higher than the national average, so budget around $4.00 per gallon for regular. For a 4-day Nyack-to-Catskills round trip (about 250 miles) in a Class C, expect roughly $90 to $110 in fuel. Pro tip: fill up in New Jersey on your way out if you're heading south; gas there is reliably cheaper, and attendants pump it for you.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Nyack?
Book early and you will have your pick. New York State Parks campgrounds like Beaver Pond and Sebago Cabin Camp accept reservations through ReserveAmerica, and summer weekends (especially July 4th and Labor Day) can sell out quickly after reservations open. Aim to book by February or March for any summer weekend trip. Private campgrounds like Black Bear Campground and the Newburgh KOA are slightly more flexible but still fill 2 to 3 months out for peak weekends. For fall foliage week in mid-October, book by July; it is one of the busiest non-summer windows in the Hudson Valley.
newyorkstateparks.reserveamerica.com/What are driving conditions like around Nyack?
Driving an RV in Nyack is manageable with a few smart choices. Route 9W along the Hudson is scenic and RV-friendly, and the New York State Thruway (I-87) is the easiest way to head north toward the Catskills or south to the city. Avoid the Palisades Interstate Parkway in motorhomes and trailers; it's a commercial-vehicle-restricted parkway and RVs are not permitted. Same goes for many NYC parkways like the Henry Hudson and Saw Mill, which have low clearances. Summer thunderstorms are common in July and August, and winter can bring icy patches on Route 9W's curves, so check the forecast. Pro tip: cross the Hudson via the Mario Cuomo Bridge (I-287), which has no RV restrictions.
dot.ny.gov/travelerWhat hookups and amenities do campgrounds near Nyack offer?
Local campgrounds range from rustic to fully loaded, so you can match your rental to the site. Beaver Pond Campground at Harriman has no electric or water hookups (a great match for self-contained campervans up to 30 feet), but offers a central dump station, flush bathrooms, and showers. Black Bear Campground and the Newburgh KOA both offer full 30/50-amp hookups, water, sewer, Wi-Fi, and on-site dump stations. Croton Point Park has electric and water at most sites plus a dump station. To refill fresh water or empty tanks on your way home, the KOA in Pomona welcomes drop-in dump fees. Pro tip: confirm hookup amps with your host so you bring the right adapter.
parks.ny.gov/visit/state-parks/beaver-pond-campgrounds-harriman-state-parkWhat is included inside a typical RV rental in Nyack?
More than you might expect. A typical motorhome rental in Nyack comes ready to camp with a full kitchen (fridge, stove, microwave, sink), a bathroom with shower and toilet, sleeping for 4 to 8 depending on size, climate control, a propane furnace, and seatbelts for every passenger that rides while driving. Many rentals include a TV, onboard generator, and solar setup for off-grid stays at Harriman. Wi-Fi is not always built in, but cellular coverage along the Hudson is strong, so a phone hotspot works well. Each host's listing lays out what is included, and many bundle kitchen kits, bedding, and outdoor chairs at no extra charge.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Nyack%2C%20New%20YorkWhat add-ons and pickup options should I know about?
RVezy hosts in Nyack offer a great mix of add-ons that make your trip smoother. Popular extras include kitchen kits, bedding and linen packages, camping chairs and outdoor rugs, generators (often included), bike racks, and stocked propane tanks. Many hosts also offer delivery and setup at your campground, which is a stress-free option for first-time renters. Each listing on RVezy shows the available add-ons and fees during checkout, so you can build the rental that fits your trip. Message the host before booking if you have a specific request, such as a child car seat, extra bedding, or a roof box for gear.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Nyack%2C%20New%20YorkHow does the security deposit and payment work?
Booking on RVezy is straightforward and secure. You pay through the RVezy platform with a credit or debit card (never directly to the host), so your payment is protected. A refundable security deposit is held on your card before your trip; the amount is shown clearly during checkout. As long as you return the RV in the agreed condition, with the agreed fuel and tank levels, the hold is released after your trip. To avoid issues, take time-stamped photos at pickup and drop-off, follow the host's dump and refuel instructions, and stay under your mileage cap or pre-purchase extra miles upfront.
