Campgrounds near Richmondville, New York
Richmondville sits in Schoharie County in New York's Mohawk Valley region, just off Interstate 88 between Cobleskill and Oneonta. The village puts RV travelers within easy reach of the northern Catskills, the Schoharie Creek corridor, and a mix of state park and private campgrounds. Most sites in the area lie within a 20 to 30 minute drive.
Closer to town, Little Lake Campground, Twin Oaks Campground, and Hide-A-Way Campsites offer private-park amenities suited to family RV trips. South along Route 30 in the Schoharie Valley, Max V Shaul State Park is a small, quiet camping area with 30 wooded tent and trailer sites, shady picnic grounds, and playing fields. Further south in Gilboa, the Catskill Mountains/Gilboa KOA sits on 95 acres in the heart of the Gilboa Mountains along the Schoharie Creek.
The mix works for travelers who want either a simple state-park base for hiking and fishing or a full-hookup private park with a pool, activities, and organized weekends for kids.
Things to do near Richmondville
Fishing and paddling on Schoharie Creek is a common draw. At Max V Shaul State Park, there is a nature and hiking trail, and fishing is allowed in Panther and Schoharie Creeks, with a car-top boat access point to the creek. The park also connects to broader trail networks; hiking trails link with the Long Path, a 357-mile route running from New York City to the Albany area.
Day trips add variety. Mine Kill State Park, roughly nine miles south, offers an Olympic-size pool, wading pool, and diving pool at no additional cost to campers with a valid camping permit, plus hiking trails, boating by permit, and the Mine Kill Falls overlook.
Families staying at the Catskill Mountains/Gilboa KOA have on-site options including a pool, five water slides, gaga ball, basketball, and creek swimming and tubing on the Schoharie.

The camping season is short and weather-driven. Max V Shaul State Park is open seasonally, from May through October, and most private campgrounds in the Schoharie Valley follow a similar window, opening around Memorial Day weekend and closing in mid to late October. Winter camping options are limited; the state park shifts to day-use activities such as fishing, hiking, picnicking, and cross-country skiing.
Summer is peak. June through August is the busiest stretch for tourism in the Cobleskill area, and holiday weekends fill first at the KOA and other family parks. Booking several months ahead is standard for weekend arrivals in July and August.
Shoulder seasons are quieter and cooler. May can still see frost overnight, while September and October bring foliage traffic through the northern Catskills. Rain is spread through the year; August typically sees the most rain, with around 16 rainy days and roughly 85 mm of precipitation.
How to book campgrounds near Richmondville
State park sites use New York's central reservation system. For Max V Shaul, reservations can be made online or through the ReserveAmerica call center at 1-800-456-2267, and camping reservations can be made up to 9 months in advance. Same-day reservations are allowed until 3 p.m. on the day of arrival, and this applies to campsites only.
Private parks use their own systems. The Catskill Mountains/Gilboa KOA books through the KOA website or by phone, with a gated check-in process; check-in begins at 2:00 PM, and after-hours arrivals should coordinate with the campground office in advance. Little Lake Campground, Twin Oaks Campground, and Hide-A-Way Campsites accept direct reservations by phone or through their own websites, and summer weekends often require multi-night minimums.
What to expect on-site
Expect a mix of hookup levels. State park sites are basic; there is no dumping station at Max V Shaul, and small RVs are welcome at any of the sites in the campground, although hookups are not available. Most sites are back-in and on the smaller side, though a few sites have enough space to accommodate RVs up to 25 feet in length. Larger rigs are better suited to the KOA or other private parks.
Rules are consistent across parks. Quiet time is from 10 PM to 7 AM at the state park, and generator use is limited to 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM and 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM. Pets are generally welcome on leash, with a maximum of two pets per campsite. Cell coverage is spotty in the valleys, and firewood should be sourced locally to avoid moving pests.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Richmondville, NY
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Richmondville, NY?
An RV rental in Richmondville is one of the most affordable ways to explore Schoharie County and the Catskills. On RVezy, travel trailers typically start around $90 to $150 per night, Class C motorhomes range from about $175 to $275, and larger Class A rigs from $250 and up. Hosts set their own pricing, so shoulder-season trips in May or September generally cost less than peak summer weekends. To find a cheap RV rental in Richmondville, filter by travel trailers (they need a tow vehicle but cost less), book midweek, and watch for hosts offering weekly discounts. Booking 2 to 3 months ahead gives you the best mix of price and selection before Cooperstown baseball-season demand peaks.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Richmondville,%20New%20YorkWhat kind of driver's license do I need to rent an RV in Richmondville?
Great news for first-time renters: your regular Class D driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Richmondville for nearly every motorhome and trailer on RVezy. New York only requires an R endorsement for recreational vehicles with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) over 26,000 pounds, and rentals on the platform are almost always well under that threshold. You'll need to be at least 25 years old with a valid license, and ID confirmation happens securely through RVezy when you book. Visiting from abroad? An International Driving Permit paired with your home license works perfectly. That's really it, no CDL, no special training, just pick your rig and hit Interstate 88.
dmv.ny.gov/driver-license/new-york-state-learner-permit-and-driver-license-class-descriptionsIs RV rental in Richmondville covered by protection and roadside assistance?
Yes, every RV rental in Richmondville booked through RVezy includes a protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can hit the road with real peace of mind. At checkout you choose from protection plan tiers that cover most damage to the vehicle, giving you the level of coverage that fits your trip. If you get a flat on Interstate 88, lock the keys inside at Howe Caverns, or run into trouble on a rural Schoharie County road, one call gets help dispatched any hour of the day or night. It's serious financial protection paired with real human support, exactly what you want for a first-time motorhome rental in Richmondville.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat if I need to cancel my Richmondville RV rental?
Booking is low-risk. RVezy sets the cancellation policy for every reservation (not individual hosts), and there is a grace-period window after booking when you can cancel and get your money back. Beyond that window, your refund depends on how close you are to your trip start date, and RVezy also has provisions for unexpected situations, which is helpful in upstate New York where a surprise snowstorm or summer thunderstorm can roll through Schoharie County. The full details are explained on the RVezy Help Center before you confirm, so you can plan your Richmondville RV trip with confidence.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in Richmondville?
Absolutely, pet-friendly RV rental in Richmondville is easy to find: just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy and you'll see listings from hosts who welcome dogs. Schoharie County is fantastic for dogs, with hiking trails at Mine Kill State Park and walkable paths around the Schoharie Reservoir. One important New York rule: both state park campgrounds (OPRHP) and DEC campgrounds require a current paper rabies certificate at check-in, metal tags on the collar will not be accepted. State parks also limit you to 2 pets per site on a leash no longer than 6 feet. Grab a copy from your vet before leaving home, and your pup is all set for a Schoharie Valley adventure.
parks.ny.gov/camping/things-to-knowCan the RV be delivered to my campground or driveway in Richmondville?
Yes, RV delivery in Richmondville is one of the most popular options on RVezy, especially for first-time renters who would rather skip the drive. Many local hosts will deliver your motorhome or travel trailer directly to nearby campgrounds like Hi-View Campground, Cooperstown Beaver Valley, or to a private driveway in Schoharie County. The host arrives, levels the rig, connects to hookups, and walks you through every system: water pump, propane, slide-outs, and more. Delivery fees vary based on distance, so use the Delivery filter when searching and message the host to confirm your location. It turns your campervan rental in Richmondville into a true turnkey vacation: arrive, unpack, relax.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Richmondville,%20New%20YorkHow far can I drive on an RV road trip from Richmondville?
Plenty far. Richmondville sits at the crossroads of Interstate 88 and Route 7, making it an ideal launchpad for an RV road trip from Richmondville. Popular runs include Cooperstown and the Baseball Hall of Fame (about 45 minutes west), Howe Caverns (15 minutes east), Albany (about 40 miles east), Lake George in the Adirondacks (roughly 110 miles north), and the Catskills around Hunter Mountain (about 50 miles south). Hosts set their own mileage policies, and some offer RV rental with unlimited mileage. Check each listing's mileage details before booking, and message the host if you have a specific route in mind so there are no surprises.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Richmondville,%20New%20YorkWhere are the best campgrounds near Richmondville, NY?
You're spoiled for choice when it comes to RV camping Richmondville. Top picks include Hi-View Campground right in Richmondville on High View Road for a quiet local stay, Max V. Shaul State Park in nearby Fultonham (a peaceful Schoharie Valley state park with full hookups and seasonal sites), Cooperstown Beaver Valley Cabins & Campsites (about 40 minutes west, perfect for Baseball Hall of Fame trips), and Cooperstown KOA in Richfield Springs. For Catskills access, Devil's Tombstone and North-South Lake (DEC campgrounds about an hour south) are stunning. Book state park sites up to 9 months ahead at newyorkstateparks.reserveamerica.com, especially for July and August weekends. Pro tip: Max V. Shaul fills fast because of its trout-stocked creek and easy I-88 access.
parks.ny.gov/camping/campsites/default.aspxWhen is the best time to take a Richmondville RV trip?
Late May through mid-October is the sweet spot for a Richmondville RV trip, with each season offering something different. Summer (June to August) brings warm days averaging 75 to 82 degrees Fahrenheit and active campgrounds, perfect for swimming in the Schoharie Reservoir. September and early October are the local insider's secret: crisp 60-degree days, fewer bugs, and absolutely spectacular Catskill foliage that peaks around Columbus Day weekend. Spring (April to May) is quieter and cooler (40s to 60s) with great trout fishing. Winters here are genuinely cold (lows in the teens with snow), so most private campgrounds close November through April, though a few RVezy hosts still rent winterized rigs for ski trips to Windham Mountain just 30 minutes away.
weather.gov/aly/I've never rented an RV before, will I know what to do?
You're going to be fine. Renting an RV for the first time is easier than most people expect, and Richmondville is a gentle place to start. Every RVezy host gives you a full walkthrough at pickup (or at delivery if you choose that option), covering the generator, water systems, slide-outs, propane, and dump procedures. You can message the host with questions before you even book, and RVezy support is available throughout your trip. Many hosts also include a written cheat sheet. For a confidence-building first outing, book a Class C motorhome and stay close, somewhere like Hi-View Campground in Richmondville keeps you about 15 minutes from your starting point while you get comfortable with the rig.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/categories/360002374433-For-RentersWhat happens if the RV breaks down during my trip?
You're covered. Every RV rental in Richmondville booked on RVezy includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan. One phone call connects you to dispatch for flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, towing, or mechanical issues, anywhere from rural Schoharie County back roads to the heart of the Catskills. Your host is typically just a text away and often knows the rig better than anyone. Cell service can be spotty in pockets of the Schoharie Valley and Catskill Park, so download your route offline before you go. Tip: save the roadside assistance number from your RVezy booking confirmation in your phone's favorites.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Richmondville RV rental across state lines or into Canada?
Yes, interstate travel is welcome and easy from Richmondville. The Vermont border is about 90 miles east, Massachusetts is 90 miles southeast, and Pennsylvania is just a couple hours south, so multi-state RV road trips from Richmondville are very doable. Cross-border travel into Canada may be allowed depending on the host and the listing's specific insurance terms, so message the host directly through their listing before booking if you're planning a Montreal or Ontario trip. One firm rule: travel into Mexico is not permitted on any RVezy rental because insurance coverage doesn't extend there. Stick to the US and (with host approval) Canada, and you've got a world of road-trip options.
cbp.gov/travel/us-citizens/know-before-you-goHow much should I budget for fuel on a Richmondville RV trip?
Easier to budget than you might think. Class C motorhomes in this area typically get 8 to 12 miles per gallon (MPG), Class B campervans 16 to 20 MPG, and travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle. New York gas prices generally run a bit above the national average, so plan around $3.40 to $3.80 per gallon for regular. For a typical 4-day, 400-mile Schoharie County loop in a Class C, that's roughly $130 to $190 in fuel. Local tip: gas is noticeably cheaper at the Stewart's and Mirabito stations along Interstate 88 between Cobleskill and Oneonta than at the rest stops, fill up before you head into the Catskills where rural stations cost more.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far ahead should I book a campground near Richmondville?
For peak summer weekends, book early, New York State Park campgrounds open reservations up to 9 months in advance through newyorkstateparks.reserveamerica.com (the official ReserveAmerica portal), and lakefront sites can vanish within minutes when the window opens at 8 AM ET on weekdays. For Max V. Shaul or Mine Kill State Park in July and August, aim for 4 to 6 months out. Private campgrounds like Hi-View or Cooperstown KOA usually have more flexibility, especially midweek. Pro tip: if you're flexible on dates, you can grab same-day reservations at NY state parks until 3 PM, and weekday arrivals in June or September almost always have walk-up availability. Cancellation refunds are available with modest fees if your plans change.
parks.ny.gov/campingWhat are the driving conditions like around Richmondville?
Driving an RV around Richmondville is genuinely manageable, Interstate 88 is wide, well-maintained, and runs right past town with gentle grades. Route 7 and Route 10 are scenic two-lane state highways that handle motorhomes easily. Things to know: the Catskills to the south have steeper grades (especially Route 23 over Windham), so downshift and take it slow. Winter brings snow and lake-effect squalls between November and March, so most renters stick to May through October. Watch for deer at dawn and dusk, they're abundant in Schoharie County. Local insider tip: avoid the narrow, winding back roads through Middleburgh Cliffs in a big Class A, stick to numbered routes. Real-time conditions are available at 511ny.org.
511ny.org/What amenities do campgrounds near Richmondville offer?
Local campgrounds are well-equipped for RVers. Most private parks near Richmondville, including Hi-View Campground and Cooperstown KOA, offer full hookups (water, electric, sewer), Wi-Fi, hot showers, laundry, and propane refills on-site. New York State Park campgrounds like Max V. Shaul and Mine Kill typically provide electric and water at many RV sites, plus centralized dump stations and potable water fills, all sites include a picnic table and fire ring. For dumping between stops, the Mirabito truck stop in Cobleskill and several local campgrounds offer paid dump-and-fill services. Don't bring firewood across state lines, New York's firewood regulation prohibits importing untreated wood, but you can buy bundles at any campground store or the Stewart's Shops along I-88.
dec.ny.gov/things-to-do/camping/campground-rules-regulationsWhat's actually included inside the RV I'm renting in Richmondville?
More than you'd expect. Most RV rentals in Richmondville come fully equipped to live and travel in: real beds with mattresses, a kitchen with stove, microwave, fridge, and sink, a bathroom with toilet and shower, climate control (furnace and air conditioning), and DOT-approved seatbelts for travel passengers. Many Class C motorhomes and travel trailers also include a TV, awning, outdoor speakers, and a generator for off-grid use. Wi-Fi varies, some hosts provide a mobile hotspot, others don't, so check the listing's amenities tab. Each listing on RVezy shows exactly what's included with photos, and you can message the host to confirm specifics like bedding, towels, or a coffee maker before booking your motorhome rental Richmondville.
fmcsa.dot.gov/regulations/title49/section/393.93What add-ons and options can I get when I rent an RV in Richmondville?
Hosts in Richmondville typically offer a menu of useful add-ons to customize your trip. Common options include linens and towel packages, kitchen kits with cookware and dishes, camp chairs and outdoor rugs, generators, bike racks, propane fills, and pet cleaning fees. Delivery and setup is one of the most popular add-ons, especially for a family RV trip in Richmondville to nearby campgrounds. Pickup and dropoff times are set by the host and shown on the listing, typically within a 2-hour window. Mileage allowances vary, and many hosts offer 100 to 150 free miles per day with per-mile fees beyond that. Use the listing's add-on section at checkout to lock everything in upfront.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Richmondville,%20New%20YorkHow does payment and the security deposit work?
Payment is straightforward and secure. When you book on RVezy, you pay through the platform with a credit or debit card, never directly to the host, which keeps everything protected. A refundable security deposit is placed on your card before the trip (the amount varies by listing) and is released after the rig is returned in the same condition. To avoid issues, take time-stamped photos and video at pickup and dropoff, follow the host's mileage and generator-hour policies, and return the RV with the same fuel and propane level you received it with. Add-ons and any host-approved extras are billed through RVezy as well, so you have one clean record of every charge from your Richmondville RV rental.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksCan I rent an RV in Richmondville for winter or ski trips?
Yes, winter RV camping is possible around Richmondville and opens up some great adventures. A handful of RVezy hosts in the area rent four-season motorhomes with heated holding tanks, enclosed underbellies, and reliable furnaces, ideal for ski trips to Windham Mountain (about 30 minutes south) or Belleayre in the Catskills. Most state park and private campgrounds close from November through April, but a few private parks offer winter hookups with shore power, and many hosts will deliver to a private property with electric. Expect temperatures dipping into the teens and snow, so dress in layers, carry traction aids, and ask your host about winter prep at the walkthrough. It's a quiet, scenic way to see Schoharie County under fresh snow.
