Campgrounds near Sherburne, New York
Sherburne sits in Chenango County in central New York, roughly midway between Utica and Binghamton along Route 12. The surrounding area is a mix of dairy farmland, hardwood forest, and small lakes, with easy access to state forests and the northern edge of the Susquehanna River watershed. RV renters use Sherburne as a base for quiet, tree-covered camping rather than resort-style crowds.
Options within short driving distance include Lebanon Reservoir Campground and Cider House Campground, both close to the village, plus Cedar Valley Campsite for private-park amenities. For a full state-park experience with a swimming lake and marked trails, Bowman Lake State Park sits west of Oxford in the town of McDonough. Families heading toward Cooperstown and the Baseball Hall of Fame typically book Adventure Bound Camping Resorts - Cooperstown.
Most sites in the region accept standard travel trailers and Class C motorhomes, though a few older state park loops have tight turns and limited big-rig pull-throughs.
Things to do near Sherburne
The Rogers Environmental Education Center in Sherburne offers free trails, boardwalks, and wildlife programming that work well for younger children. Anglers fish the Chenango River and stocked ponds in nearby state forests, and paddlers launch on Lebanon Reservoir for flat-water kayaking.
Bowman Lake State Park adds a sandy swim beach, a nine-hole disc golf course, and over thirteen miles of hiking and multi-use trails. Day trips reach the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, the Farmers' Museum, and Glimmerglass State Park on Otsego Lake, all within about an hour by RV.
Cider House Campground and Cedar Valley Campsite are useful bases for cycling quiet county roads and visiting local farm stands during harvest season.

The camping season in central New York runs roughly from mid-May through mid-October. New York State Parks, including Bowman Lake State Park, open most campsites and cabins for the warm-weather season, with the park office keeping extended hours between Memorial Day weekend and Labor Day. Private parks such as Cider House Campground and Cedar Valley Campsite generally follow a similar window, though exact opening dates vary year to year.
July and August bring the warmest, driest camping weather and the highest demand. Weekends around Independence Day and Labor Day fill first, especially at lakefront sites. Late June and early September offer nearly identical weather with fewer crowds and easier last-minute booking.
Shoulder-season trips in May and October can be rewarding for fall foliage and trout fishing, but overnight lows often drop near freezing. Winter access is limited to day-use activities such as snowmobiling and cross-country skiing on designated trails at Bowman Lake State Park; overnight RV camping is not offered at most area parks during that period.
How to book campgrounds near Sherburne
State-park sites in the region, including Bowman Lake State Park, are booked through the New York State Parks ReserveAmerica portal, either online or by phone. The reservation window extends up to nine months in advance of the arrival date, so summer weekends should be booked as early as possible after the window opens.
Private campgrounds, including Cider House Campground, Cedar Valley Campsite, Lebanon Reservoir Campground, and Adventure Bound Camping Resorts - Cooperstown, are reserved directly through each property's website or phone line. A two-night minimum stay is standard on weekends, and holiday weekends often require three nights.
RV renters should confirm site length, hookup type, and slide-out clearance when booking, particularly at older wooded loops.
What to expect on-site
Sites near Sherburne tend to be wooded, level enough for standard trailers, and spaced for reasonable privacy. Bowman Lake State Park spreads 150 campsites and rustic cabins across roughly 967 acres, with tree-covered loops and two shower buildings.
Hookup availability varies. State-park loops commonly provide limited hookups, so an onboard fresh-water tank and a plan for the dump station are useful. Private parks such as Cedar Valley Campsite and Adventure Bound Camping Resorts - Cooperstown more often include water and electric at the site, with some full-hookup options.
Cell service is inconsistent in the surrounding hills, black bears are present in area forests, and New York prohibits moving untreated firewood more than 50 miles from its source, so plan to buy firewood locally or bring certified heat-treated bundles.

dmv.ny.gov/registration/register-trailerHow do payment and the security deposit work?
Payment is simple and secure: you pay through the RVezy platform when you book, never directly to the host in cash. Your nightly rate, protection plan, taxes, and any add-ons are itemized clearly before you confirm. A refundable security deposit is held separately from your booking payment (typically $500 to $1,500 depending on the rig) and released after the host confirms the RV is returned in good shape. To avoid deposit issues, do a thorough walk-around video at pickup with your host, return the RV with the same fuel and propane levels, and dump the tanks if required by the listing. Keep gas receipts from local Norwich or Sherburne stations as proof of refueling.
