Stottville camping overview
Stottville sits in Columbia County in New York's Hudson Valley, a few miles north of the city of Hudson and within reach of the Catskills, the Taconic ridgeline, and the Berkshires across the state line. RV travelers use it as a base for exploring farm country, river towns, and hiking trails without straying far from major routes like the Taconic State Parkway and Interstate 87.
Campground options in the surrounding area split between private RV parks and a state park. Treetopia Campground is a private Hudson Valley property offering RV sites, cabins, and glamping accommodations. Lake Taghkanic State Park sits in Columbia County right off the Taconic State Parkway, about 11 miles southeast of Hudson, with tent and trailer sites plus cabins and cottages. Brook-n-Wood Family Campground, Copake Camping Resort, and Waubeeka Family Campground round out the nearby private options for families and larger rigs.
Most sites are within a thirty to sixty minute drive of Stottville, which keeps day trips to Hudson, Kaaterskill Falls, and the Taconic hills manageable.
Things to do near Stottville
Lake Taghkanic State Park offers beach swimming at two beaches, boat launches, rowboat, paddleboat and kayak rentals, hiking, fishing, playgrounds, and a recreation hall in the warm months. In winter the park supports ice fishing, ice skating, sledding, snowmobiling, snowshoeing, and cross-country skiing when conditions allow.
From Treetopia Campground and other Catskill-side sites, the Kaaterskill Wild Forest and Kaaterskill Falls are a short drive west, and Olana State Historic Site and Clermont State Historic Site sit nearby. Copake Camping Resort puts the Taconic State Park Copake Falls Area, Bash Bish Falls, and the Harlem Valley Rail Trail within reach.
The city of Hudson adds antique shops, restaurants, and Amtrak access. Farm stands, cideries, and orchards line the back roads through Columbia and Greene counties.

How to book campsites near Stottville
Lake Taghkanic State Park is operated by New York State Parks and uses the ReserveAmerica system. Reservations can be made online or through the ReserveAmerica Call Center at 1-800-456-2267. Reservations must be made at least one day ahead of arrival and can be made up to nine months in advance. Same-day reservations are allowed until 3 p.m. on the day of arrival for campsites, and walk-ins are permitted on campsites only.
Cabins at Lake Taghkanic require 7 or 14 night reservations from the end of June to the end of August, Saturday to Saturday only, while cottages follow the same length rules Friday to Friday. A camping party may occupy a site for a maximum of 14 continuous nights, after which the party must leave the facility for 48 hours before registering again.
Private campgrounds including Treetopia Campground, Brook-n-Wood Family Campground, Copake Camping Resort, and Waubeeka Family Campground take direct bookings through their own websites and typically release peak summer weekends months ahead.
What to expect on the ground
Expect a mix of wooded and open sites. Lake Taghkanic State Park offers tent and trailer campsites along with cabin and cottage lodging, plus two swimming beaches, boat launch sites, boat rentals, playgrounds, playing fields, a rentable pavilion, a recreation hall, and hot showers with flush toilets. Large trucks, RVs, and campers enter from the Route 82 entrance. Each site allows for two vehicles, with quiet hours from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m.
Private resorts nearby fill the full-hookup gap that state park sites do not always provide. Amenities across the family campgrounds commonly include pools, camp stores, game rooms, pavilions, and playgrounds.
Cell coverage in the surrounding hills can be spotty. Bring firewood from local vendors, since transporting untreated firewood long distances is restricted in New York.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Stottville, NY
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Stottville, NY?
Good news: RV rental in Stottville, NY is one of the more affordable ways to explore the Hudson Valley. On RVezy, you'll typically see travel trailers starting around $90 to $150 per night, Class C motorhomes from about $175 to $275 per night, and larger Class A motorhomes from $225 to $400 per night. Because hosts are local owners in Columbia County (not a corporate fleet), you'll often find better value than traditional rental agencies. Pro tip: book midweek in May or September to score the cheap RV rental Stottville sweet spot, before the leaf-peeping crowd rolls in. Use the price filter on the search page to set your budget and watch the savings stack up.
columbiacountytourism.org/Do I need a special license to rent an RV in Stottville?
Great news for first-time renters: a regular Class D driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Stottville and drive almost anything on the RVezy platform. New York only requires an 'R' endorsement for recreational vehicles with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) over 26,000 pounds, which excludes the vast majority of campervans, Class C motorhomes, and travel trailers listed locally. You'll need to be 25 or older with a valid license, and RVezy verifies your ID right inside the platform during booking. Visiting from abroad? Bring an International Driving Permit (IDP) alongside your home license and you're set to roll through the Hudson Valley.
dmv.ny.gov/driver-license/new-york-state-learner-permit-and-driver-license-class-descriptionsWhat kind of protection is included when I rent an RV in Stottville?
You're covered from day one. Every RV rental in Stottville booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so help is just a phone call away whether you're parked at Lake Taghkanic or cruising the Taconic State Parkway. The protection plan covers damage to the vehicle during your trip, and during checkout you choose the level of coverage that matches your comfort zone. It is not traditional auto insurance, but it gives renters real financial peace of mind so you can focus on enjoying your motorhome rental in Stottville.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat happens if I need to cancel my Stottville RV rental?
Booking is low-risk so you can plan with confidence. RVezy sets the cancellation policy at the platform level (not the individual host), and it includes a money-back grace period after booking so you have breathing room if plans shift. Refund outcomes depend on how far out from your trip start date you cancel, and special circumstances like natural disasters are reviewed by the support team. Because the policy is platform-wide, you will not see different cancellation rules on different listings. If a host cancels on you, RVezy will help rebook or refund. Customer support is available before, during, and after your trip.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in Stottville?
Absolutely, your pup is welcome on the adventure. Plenty of hosts offer a pet-friendly RV rental Stottville option, and you can filter for 'Pet-Friendly' right on the search page to see only those listings. Lake Taghkanic State Park, just 20 minutes south, allows up to two leashed pets per campsite with proof of rabies inoculation, and Taconic State Park at Copake Falls has dog-friendly loops too. Stick to a 6-foot leash, pack the vaccination paperwork, and you're good to go. Insider tip: the Harlem Valley Rail Trail near Copake Falls is a flat, scenic walk that dogs love after a day cooped up in the car.
parks.ny.gov/visit/state-parks/lake-taghkanic-state-parkCan the RV be delivered to my campground near Stottville?
Yes, and it is the easiest way to start your trip. Many Stottville-area hosts offer RV delivery, meaning they will drive the RV to your campground, set up the awning, level it, connect hookups, and walk you through every system before handing over the keys. Popular drop-off spots include Lake Taghkanic State Park (about 20 minutes south), Copake Falls in Taconic State Park (about 45 minutes southeast), and private parks in nearby Austerlitz and Ghent. Use the delivery filter on the listing search to find hosts who offer it. Delivery fees are typically based on mileage from the host's home base, so booking a rig close to Columbia County keeps costs down.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Stottville%2C%20New%20YorkHow far can I travel on a Stottville RV trip, and is there unlimited mileage?
You have plenty of options for a Stottville RV trip, and an RV rental with unlimited mileage is often available. Each host sets their own mileage policy on RVezy: many include 100-150 free miles per night, while others advertise unlimited mileage right in the listing details. From Stottville, popular round trips include Lake George (about 90 miles north), the Catskills via Saugerties (about 35 miles southwest), Lake Placid (around 165 miles north), and a Niagara Falls run (roughly 300 miles west). Check the mileage section on any listing before booking, and message the host directly if you are planning a bigger loop, they are often flexible.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Stottville%2C%20New%20YorkWhere are the best campgrounds near Stottville for RV camping?
You are spoiled for choice. The best campgrounds near Stottville for RV camping include Lake Taghkanic State Park in Gallatin (about 20 minutes south, with trailer sites, two beaches, and boat rentals), Taconic State Park at Copake Falls (about 45 minutes southeast, gateway to Bash Bish Falls and the Harlem Valley Rail Trail), Schodack Island State Park (about 30 minutes north on the Hudson, great for bald eagle sightings), and Brook n Wood Family Campground in Elizaville (full hookups, pool, family-friendly). Book New York State Park sites through ReserveAmerica up to 9 months ahead, especially for July and August weekends, which sell out fast in the Hudson Valley.
parks.ny.gov/camping/When is the best time to rent an RV in Stottville, NY?
Late spring through mid-fall is prime time. The sweet spot for RV camping Stottville runs from late May to mid-October, when daytime highs sit between 67°F and 85°F and Hudson Valley orchards, farm stands, and trails are in full swing. July is the warmest month (highs around 81-85°F), and late September into mid-October delivers stunning fall foliage in the Taconic Mountains, arguably the best week of the year here. Winters are freezing (January lows near 17°F with 33+ inches of annual snowfall), so most campgrounds close from late October to mid-May. Local tip: book a Columbus Day weekend rig early, leaf-peeping demand makes it the busiest week of fall.
parks.ny.gov/campingI'm first time renting an RV. Will the host help me figure it out?
Yes, and that's one of the best parts of booking with RVezy. Every host provides a hands-on orientation at pickup, walking you through the generator, awning, slide-outs, water systems, propane, and dump procedures, so first time renting an RV doesn't mean figuring it out alone. Many Columbia County hosts even send a pre-trip video or checklist so you arrive prepared. You can also message any host directly from their listing page before booking to ask questions about driving the rig on local roads like the winding Taconic State Parkway. Pro tip: book a Class B campervan or small Class C for your first trip, they drive much more like a large SUV.
dmv.ny.gov/driver-license/new-york-state-learner-permit-and-driver-license-class-descriptionsWhat happens if the RV breaks down during my trip?
You are never stranded. Every Stottville RV rental booked on RVezy includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, so a flat tire on Route 9G, a dead battery at Olana, or a generator hiccup at Lake Taghkanic is just one phone call away from being handled. The roadside team can arrange tire service, jump starts, fuel delivery, lockout help, and towing to the nearest qualified shop. Your host is also a direct line for quick troubleshooting since they know their rig inside out. Save the RVezy support number in your phone before you leave Stottville and keep your booking confirmation handy in the glove box.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Stottville RV rental into Canada or another state?
A multi-state RV road trip from Stottville is absolutely doable and you are perfectly positioned for it. Most hosts allow travel throughout the continental US, so popular routes from Stottville include the Berkshires in Massachusetts (about 40 minutes east), Vermont's Green Mountains (under 2 hours north), the Maine coast, and Niagara Falls. Cross-border travel into Canada may be allowed depending on the host and insurance coverage, so message the host directly through the listing to confirm and request a cross-border letter before your trip. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals. Confirm your route in writing with your host before booking to keep everything smooth.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat's the fuel budget for an RV road trip from Stottville?
Easier to plan than you think. New York gas prices typically run a bit above the national average, hovering around $3.30 to $3.80 per gallon in the Hudson Valley region. Class B campervans average 18-22 MPG, Class C motorhomes 8-12 MPG, and Class A motorhomes 6-10 MPG. For a 300-mile RV road trip from Stottville to Lake Placid and back in a Class C, budget roughly $150-$200 in fuel. Diesel rigs go further per gallon but cost more per fill-up. Pro tip: fill up at the Stewart's Shops in Hudson or Valatie before heading north, prices climb noticeably once you cross into the Adirondacks.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Stottville?
Sooner is better, but you have flexibility. New York State Parks like Lake Taghkanic and Taconic State Park accept reservations up to 9 months ahead through ReserveAmerica, and prime summer weekends often fill within hours of opening. For July, August, and fall foliage weekends, aim to book 4-6 months out. Shoulder-season trips in May, June, and late September are easier, and you can often grab sites 2-4 weeks ahead. Same-day reservations are accepted online at most state park campgrounds. Insider move: walk-ins are sometimes available at Lake Taghkanic midweek, a handy backup if your plans come together last minute.
parks.ny.gov/camping/What's driving an RV around Stottville actually like?
More relaxed than you might expect. Stottville sits in rural Columbia County with quiet two-lane roads, and most routes to nearby attractions follow well-maintained highways like Route 9, Route 23, and the Taconic State Parkway. Heads up on the Taconic: it is a scenic parkway with no commercial vehicles allowed, but RVs and motorhomes used for personal travel are permitted. There are low bridges in some sections, so check your rig's clearance (most rentals are under 11 feet). Watch for deer at dawn and dusk on country roads, and avoid the Rip Van Winkle Bridge in heavy fog. Winter visitors: book a 4-season RV and ask the host about snow tires.
dot.ny.gov/divisions/operating/oom/transportation-systems/repository/RV_HV_Restrictions.pdfWhat amenities will I find at campgrounds near Stottville?
You will find a great mix. Most campgrounds near Stottville offer the essentials and more. Lake Taghkanic State Park has hot showers, flush toilets, a dump station, and trailer sites suited for RVs up to 40 feet, plus a swimming beach and boat rentals on the lake. Taconic State Park at Copake Falls offers electric hookups at many trailer sites, showers, and a dump station. Private parks like Brook n Wood in Elizaville add full hookups (water, electric, sewer), Wi-Fi, and a pool. For potable water fills and dump stations between trips, Lake Taghkanic's entrance area is the most central option around Stottville. Bring a 25-foot drinking-water hose and an extra sewer elbow, they always come in handy.
parks.ny.gov/visit/state-parks/lake-taghkanic-state-parkWhat's actually inside the RVs available in Stottville?
More than enough to feel at home. Most RV rental in Stottville listings come fully equipped: a real bed (queen or king in most rigs), a kitchen with stove, fridge, microwave, sink, and cookware, an indoor bathroom with toilet and shower, dinette seating with seatbelts for travel, climate control (AC and furnace), and many include a TV, Bluetooth speaker, and outdoor awning. Campervan rentals in Stottville are more compact but still pack a kitchenette and sleeping area into a drivable footprint. Wi-Fi and onboard generators are common in Class C and Class A motorhomes, check the amenities tab on each listing to confirm. Many hosts also include camp chairs, linens, and a starter kit of paper goods.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Stottville%2C%20New%20YorkWhat add-ons and options can I get with my Stottville RV rental?
Hosts make it easy to customize your trip. Popular add-ons for a family RV trip in Stottville include linen and bedding packages, kitchen kits, generator hours, bike racks, outdoor grills, kayaks and SUPs, and pet cleaning fees if you are bringing the dog. Delivery and setup is the most popular upgrade, especially to Lake Taghkanic or Copake Falls. Pickup is typically at the host's home in or near Stottville, check the listing for exact location and times. Mileage policies vary by host (some offer unlimited miles, others 100-150 per night), and any extra-mile fees are spelled out clearly before booking. Tip: bundle delivery with the linen pack so you can drive straight to your campsite and settle in.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Stottville%2C%20New%20YorkHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
It is straightforward and secure. When you book your RV rental in Stottville through RVezy, you pay through the platform with a credit or debit card, no cash or off-platform transfers (and never agree to that, it is against policy). A security deposit is authorized separately from your booking payment and released after the trip ends, assuming the RV comes back in the condition it left. To avoid issues, take date-stamped photos of the interior, exterior, mileage, and generator hours at pickup and dropoff, and follow the host's dump and cleaning instructions. Have a question mid-trip? RVezy support is reachable 24/7, before, during, and after your booking.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksCan I rent an RV in Stottville during winter?
Yes, winter RVing here is an underrated adventure. While most Stottville-area campgrounds close from late October through mid-May, a handful of hosts offer 4-season rigs with heated holding tanks, enclosed underbellies, and strong furnaces built for upstate New York winters (think January lows near 17F and 30 plus inches of annual snow). Use the search filters and message hosts directly to confirm winter availability. Pair your rental with a private RV park that stays open year-round, or park near the Catskills ski areas, Catamount and Hunter Mountain are both under 45 minutes away. Pro tip: ask the host about shore power, antifreeze in the lines, and tire chains before you book a snowy-weekend trip.
