How to book campsites near Forman
North Dakota state parks use a single reservation system. Campsites and seasonal lodging can be booked 95 days in advance from the date of stay, reservations can be made online or by calling 800-807-4723, and check-in is at 4:00 pm with checkout at 3:00 pm. This covers Westside - Fort Ransom State Park.
South Dakota state parks operate a separate system. For Fort Sisseton and Roy Lake, reservations can be made online or by calling 1.800.710.2267. Book well ahead for summer weekends and holidays, when sites at lakeside parks fill quickly.

What to expect at Forman campgrounds
Sites in this area range from full-service to primitive. Dead Colt Creek features partial 20/30/50 amp hookups with sewage dump sites and bath houses along with tent sites. At Fort Ransom, the main campground sits in open terrain near the road, while primitive sites occupy wooded areas across the river bridge, with electric hookups available in the modern loop.
Wind is a real factor on the plains. Sites in the open field face North Dakota's persistent winds, while the primitive area offers more shelter, with sites all in the trees and secluded. Pack for temperature swings, since nights can be cool even in July.
Bring bug spray for early summer, plan a dump-station stop between parks, and expect limited cell service in some river-valley sites.
