Campgrounds and RV parks near Abbottstown, PA

Gettysburg National Military Park is the anchor attraction, roughly 20 minutes west, with an auto tour, visitor center, and ranger programs. Hanover, immediately south, offers factory tours at Utz and Snyder's of Hanover, plus the Codorus State Park recreation area on Lake Marburg. Lake Marburg is the main on-water draw. The 1,275-acre lake has 26 miles of shoreline and is popular with sailboaters and motorboaters, with seven boat launch ramps around the lake. Motor size is limited to 20 horsepower. On-land options at Codorus include hiking, biking, disc golf, a swimming pool with sprayground, and equestrian trails. Winter visitors use the park for sledding, cross-country skiing, ice skating, and snowmobiling. Families staying at Gettysburg Farm RV Campground can add farm-animal feeding, mini-golf, and organized activities on-site.

The main camping season in this part of south-central Pennsylvania runs from mid-April through late October. Gettysburg Farm RV Campground operates on a mid-April to late-October window, and Codorus State Park's overnight areas run a similar spring-through-fall schedule. Cedar Lake Resort advertises year-round camping, but most private parks in the area close by early November. Summer is the peak window. Weekends around Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Labor Day book heavily at Codorus, and the Codorus swimming pool follows a staged schedule: weekends only from Memorial Day weekend, daily from the second week of June through mid-August, then weekends only through Labor Day. Lake Marburg water levels can drop over 20 feet during summer because the reservoir supplies a paper mill and the town of Spring Grove. Spring and fall bring cooler nights, lighter crowds, and reliable foliage color from late September into mid-October. September is historically the wettest month in the Hanover area, averaging over 110 millimeters of rain, so pack for occasional heavy downpours.

Codorus State Park's campground has roughly 192 sites laid out in four loops (A through D), with about 78 modern electric sites, 31 full-hookup sites, 58 modern non-electric sites, 15 tent-only sites, three camping cottages, and one yurt. Amenities include potable water, flush toilets, hot-water showers, a dump station, an amphitheater, a boat launch, and a pet-walking area. Loops A and B tend to be more wooded; Loop D opens into grassier terrain. Cell service can be spotty, so download the park map before arriving. Gettysburg Farm RV Campground spreads over 120 acres, with roughly 60 percent full-hookup and the remainder water-and-electric along the creek. About half of the full-hookup sites are 50-amp, and the rest are 30-amp. Roads and pads are mostly gravel and generally well maintained. Sites accommodate rigs up to about 35 feet, and on-site amenities include a pool, mini-golf, playground, and a country store. Expect a family-oriented atmosphere at the private parks, with scheduled weekend activities in season.
