Campgrounds near Arcadia University
Arcadia University sits in Glenside, a suburb of Philadelphia in Montgomery County, roughly eleven miles from Center City. The area is densely developed, so RV campgrounds cluster in the outer suburbs of Bucks and Montgomery counties, in South Jersey across the Delaware River, and along the historic Delaware corridor. Renters visiting campus, attending a graduation, or using Glenside as a base for Philadelphia sightseeing have several practical options within a 30 to 45 minute drive.
Closest to campus is Village Scene Park in Hatfield, a small RV area attached to a manufactured-home community with paved, level sites. Oak Grove Park and Sales sits nearby in the same suburban corridor, and Homestead Family Campgrounds in Bucks County offers a more traditional wooded setting north of the city.
Across the river, Philadelphia South / Clarksboro KOA Holiday in New Jersey offers a country camping experience just 20 minutes from downtown Philadelphia and Camden, making it the main full-service RV option for visitors to the region. Farther north along the Delaware, Washington Crossing State Park, NJ provides historic-site access, though its camping facilities are limited to organized groups and are not set up for RVs.
Things to do near Arcadia University
Glenside puts renters within easy reach of central Philadelphia. Historic attractions include Independence Hall, the Liberty Bell, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, and the Reading Terminal Market. Families typically add the Please Touch Museum, the Franklin Institute, and the Philadelphia Zoo. The SEPTA regional rail line runs through Glenside station and reaches Center City directly, which makes leaving the RV parked and taking the train a common tactic.
Outdoor options are close as well. Wissahickon Valley Park in Fairmount Park offers wooded hiking and cycling trails minutes from campus. Farther afield, Washington Crossing Historic Park on the Pennsylvania side of the Delaware, Tyler State Park, and Peace Valley Park in Bucks County add river access, picnicking, and paddling. Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square is a common day trip to the west.

The greater Philadelphia area has a humid subtropical climate with four distinct seasons. Peak camping runs from late April through October, and reservations at private parks fill quickly around Memorial Day, July 4, Labor Day, and Arcadia University commencement and move-in weekends. Late spring and early fall generally offer the most comfortable temperatures for RV travel.
Summer is hot and humid, with afternoon thunderstorms common and rainfall spread across the warm months. Full-hookup sites with 30 and 50 amp service are worth prioritizing so air conditioning can run through the heat. Fall brings cooler nights, lower humidity, and foliage color through October into early November.
From December to March, Philadelphia can remain below freezing all day long in cold snaps, and many area campgrounds either close or operate on a reduced basis in winter. Confirm operating status directly with each park before arriving in the cold months. Group campsites at Washington Crossing State Park, NJ are limited and not RV-oriented, so plan around that if the site is on your itinerary.

How to book campgrounds near Arcadia University
Private parks in the region take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone. Philadelphia South / Clarksboro KOA Holiday takes bookings through the KOA reservation system, and KOA Rewards members can hold sites farther in advance. Homestead Family Campgrounds, Village Scene Park, and Oak Grove Park and Sales take reservations by phone or through their own booking pages, and repeat seasonal renters mean weekends fill early.
For state-park facilities, Pennsylvania and New Jersey use separate systems. Most campsites in Pennsylvania state parks can be reserved 11 months in advance to noon of the day of arrival through the Pennsylvania State Parks and Forests Reservations portal. New Jersey uses a state reservation system at camping.nj.gov, with bookings available up to 12 months in advance for prime locations. Book major holiday weekends and Arcadia graduation dates several months out.
What to expect
This is a metro-area destination, not a wilderness one. Sites near Arcadia tend to be compact, level, and paved or gravel, with full hookups and 30 or 50 amp service at the larger parks. Traffic and toll roads are part of the trip: the Pennsylvania Turnpike, I-95, and I-295 across the river all see heavy commuter volume, and big rigs should plan arrivals outside rush hour.
Expect a suburban feel at the closer parks. Village Scene Park sits within a suburban neighborhood northwest of Philadelphia and combines manufactured homes with RV sites. The Clarksboro KOA sits just half a mile off I-295, one of the region's primary transit corridors, which keeps access simple for larger rigs. At New Jersey state parks, water, electric and sewer hook-ups are not provided except at select Water and Electric Hook-up sites at Spruce Run Recreation Area, and no sewer hook-ups are available at those sites, so Washington Crossing State Park, NJ works better as a day trip than an overnight RV base.
