Campgrounds and RV parks near Beavertown, PA

The signature attraction is Woodward Cave, one of Pennsylvania's largest caverns, with guided tours through five rooms including the Hall of Statues and the Tower of Babel, the largest known stalagmite in the state. Guests staying at Woodward Cave and Campground can walk directly to the cave entrance. At Raymond B Winter State Park, families use the sand swimming beach on Halfway Lake, cast for stocked trout, and hike trails through oak and pine forest. The surrounding Bald Eagle State Forest adds miles of gravel roads, hunting areas, and remote overlooks. Shady Brook Campground and Boat Rental, LLC provides on-site boat rentals for local paddling. Day trips reach Penn State's campus in State College, Lewisburg's historic downtown, and the Susquehanna River for fishing and kayaking.

The primary RV season runs from mid-April through mid-December for the state park, and mid-April through mid-October for most private options. Raymond B Winter State Park's 61-site campground opens the second Friday in April and closes in mid-December, with most sites offering electric hookups. Woodward Cave and Campground operates a similar seasonal window, with camping from April 19 through October 19 and cave tours running from late May through early September. Summer is the peak booking window. July and August bring warm, humid days ideal for the swimming beach at Halfway Lake and evening campfires, but weekends and holiday periods fill early at both state and private parks. Bug pressure eases by late August. Fall delivers the region's strongest color show through October across the ridges of Bald Eagle State Forest, along with cooler nights and lighter crowds. Winter camping is limited: the state park itself stays open every day of the year, sunrise to sunset, but most campground loops and the cave tour program are closed.

Cell service is unreliable across much of Bald Eagle State Forest and the ridges around Beavertown, so downloading park maps and directions before leaving pavement is important. Raymond B Winter State Park lies in a shallow basin surrounded by rocky ridges covered with an oak and pine forest, which keeps summer nights cooler than valley towns. Roads into the state park via PA Route 192 are paved and manageable for larger rigs, though sites vary in length and levelness. Woodward Cave and Campground offers level grassy sites with electric and non-electric options, both seasonal and nightly, plus a camp store and shower house. Expect wildlife including deer, black bear, and turkey in the forested areas, so store food securely and follow posted bear-country practices. Due to the threat of spreading invasive insects, firewood should be purchased locally rather than transported in.
