RV camping near Berwick, Pennsylvania
Berwick is a small borough in Columbia County along the North Branch of the Susquehanna River in Northeastern Pennsylvania, roughly a 45-minute drive southwest of Wilkes-Barre. The area sits between the Endless Mountains and the Poconos, giving RV travelers access to river-valley campgrounds, forested private parks, and several state parks within an hour's drive.
Private campgrounds close to town include Bodnarosa Campground and Council Cup Campground, both within easy reach of Berwick for full-hookup stays. Red Ridge Lake Campgrounds, Whispering Pines Camping Estates, and Moyers Grove Campground extend options into the surrounding wooded ridges and lake country, with a mix of pull-through and back-in sites suited to travel trailers and larger motorhomes.
Ricketts Glen State Park to the north and Nescopeck State Park to the east are the two big public draws for day trips. Both offer trail networks and quiet forest scenery, though Ricketts Glen's campground fills quickly in summer and is best combined with a private-park base near Berwick.
Things to do around Berwick
Ricketts Glen State Park is the headline attraction. Its Falls Trail passes 21 named waterfalls along Kitchen Creek and is one of the most photographed hikes in Pennsylvania. Trail sections are steep and rocky, so families with small children usually stick to the upper loop.
Closer to town, the Susquehanna River supports kayaking, fishing for smallmouth bass, and flatwater paddling. Council Cup Scenic Overlook gives a wide view of the river bend at Wapwallopen, and the Susquehanna Warrior Trail rail-trail runs along the river for cyclists and walkers.
Knoebels Amusement Resort in Elysburg, about a half-hour drive, is a free-admission classic amusement park popular with RV families. Nescopeck State Park adds easy interpretive trails and a lake for shore fishing.

The private campgrounds around Berwick generally operate from mid-April through mid- to late October, with peak demand from Memorial Day through Labor Day. July and August are the warmest and busiest months, and holiday weekends at parks like Bodnarosa Campground and Whispering Pines Camping Estates typically sell out well in advance.
Spring brings high water on Kitchen Creek, which makes the Ricketts Glen waterfalls especially impressive, though the Falls Trail can be muddy and slippery into May. Late September and early October are prime for fall foliage across the Endless Mountains, and cooler nights mean quieter campgrounds and better availability at Council Cup Campground, Red Ridge Lake Campgrounds, and Moyers Grove Campground.
Winter closures are the norm for private parks in this region. Nescopeck State Park remains open for day use year-round, and Ricketts Glen's Falls Trail is closed to hikers without ice-climbing gear and proper equipment during the icy months.

This was our family’s first time renting an RV after years of tent camping, and it was a great experience overall. Michael was an excellent host. He delivered the RV to our campsite, had everything set up and ready to go, and took the time to explain how everything worked. As first-time RV renters, that made the experience stress-free and much less intimidating. The RV itself was exactly what we needed for our family of four. It was spacious enough to sleep comfortably, kept us cool during the hot weather, kept us dry through the rain, and everything worked as expected. We spent most of our time outdoors and primarily used the RV for sleeping, and it was perfect for that. The only reason I’m mentioning this is so future renters know what to expect. When we first arrived, there was a noticeable odor inside the RV. As the trip went on, it seemed to be coming from the bathroom/holding tank area. When I mentioned it to Michael at pickup, he was very open about it and explained that it’s something he has to deep clean every few rentals to eliminate the smell. I appreciated his honesty, but since it’s a known issue rather than a one-time occurrence, I think it’s fair for future renters to be aware of it. Other than that, we had a fantastic experience. Michael was friendly, responsive, and easy to work with, and I wouldn’t hesitate to rent from him again

How to book campgrounds near Berwick
Pennsylvania state park campsites and cabins, including those at Ricketts Glen and Nescopeck, are reserved through the Pennsylvania State Parks reservation system at pennsylvaniastateparks.reserveamerica.com or by calling 888-PA-PARKS. Bookings open up to 11 months ahead, and popular summer weekends at Ricketts Glen usually book out the day the window opens.
Private parks near Berwick take reservations directly by phone or through their own websites. For summer weekends and holidays, contact Bodnarosa Campground, Council Cup Campground, Whispering Pines Camping Estates, Red Ridge Lake Campgrounds, or Moyers Grove Campground several weeks ahead. Weekly and seasonal sites are common, so nightly transient availability can be limited.
Confirm rig length limits, hookup type, and pet policies at the time of booking, since older private parks in the region often have shaded sites with tight approaches.
What to expect on an RV trip to Berwick
Terrain around Berwick is rolling to hilly, and access roads to some campgrounds involve narrow secondary routes with tree canopy. Drivers of larger Class A motorhomes and long fifth-wheels should map the final approach in advance and avoid shortcut routes through the mountains north of town. The road into Ricketts Glen from the south climbs a steep grade that challenges longer rigs.
Cell service is generally reliable in Berwick itself and thinner in the state parks and ridge-top campgrounds. Grocery, propane, and dump-station services are available in Berwick and nearby Bloomsburg. Firewood is typically sold on-site at private parks, and moving firewood long distances is discouraged due to spotted lanternfly and emerald ash borer quarantines.
Black bears are present in the surrounding forests, so standard food-storage practices apply.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Berwick, PA
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Berwick, PA?
RV rental in Berwick is one of the more affordable ways to explore northeastern Pennsylvania. Expect motorhomes to average around $200 per night and travel trailers around $125 per night, with many hosts offering weekly or monthly discounts. For a cheap RV rental Berwick families love, target shoulder season (May or September) when nightly rates dip and Ricketts Glen is at its scenic best. Pro tip: choose a travel trailer if you already have a capable tow vehicle, or pick a Class C motorhome for a turn-key family RV trip Berwick weekend. Booking 6-8 weeks ahead of Knoebels season locks in the best prices and biggest selection.

There is no special RV endorsement or Commercial Driver's License (CDL) required in Pennsylvania for personal-use motorhomes or travel trailers you'll find on RVezy. Most first-time renters are surprised how simple the paperwork is, leaving more time to plan that Pocono detour.

dcnr.pa.gov/StateParks/FindAPark/RickettsGlenStatePark/Pages/default.aspxCan the RV be delivered to my campground in Berwick?
Yes, RV delivery Berwick is offered by many hosts on RVezy, which makes life dramatically easier if you're new to towing or just want a turn-key setup. Filter for Delivery on the search page and you'll find owners who will drive the RV directly to Bodnarosa Campground, Moyers Grove, Knoebels Lake Glory, or even a private driveway in town. They'll level the rig, connect water and electric hookups, walk you through every system, and pick it up at the end. Delivery fees usually scale with distance from Berwick, so closer campgrounds (within 15 miles) tend to cost less. Pro tip: book delivery if it's your first time renting an RV, you'll start your trip relaxed, not stressed.

For a quieter vibe, try Whispering Pines Camping Estates in Stillwater (about 10 miles). Pro tip: state park sites at Ricketts Glen book up months early for summer weekends, so reserve early through the official Pennsylvania DCNR portal.
dcnr.pa.gov/StateParks/FindAPark/RickettsGlenStatePark/Pages/default.aspxWhen is the best time to rent an RV in Berwick, PA?
Berwick has a true four-season climate, and late spring through early fall is prime time for RV camping Berwick. June through August brings warm days (highs of 80-85°F) and the full Knoebels season, while September and early October deliver Pennsylvania's famous fall foliage with daytime temps in the 60s-70s and far fewer bugs. Winters get cold (lows in the teens to 20s°F) with occasional snow, so plan accordingly. Local insider tip: the third weekend of September around the Bloomsburg Fair (just 10 miles away) is electric, but campgrounds fill fast. Mid-October leaf-peeping along the Susquehanna River near Council Cup Scenic Overlook is the best-kept secret of the region.
weather.gov/ctp/I've never rented an RV before. Is renting in Berwick beginner-friendly?
Berwick is a great place for first time renting an RV. The roads are quieter than Philadelphia or NYC suburbs, campgrounds are well-spaced, and most rural highways like Route 11 and Route 93 are easy to navigate. Every RVezy host provides a hands-on orientation at pickup, walking you through the generator, slide-outs, holding tanks, propane, and driving tips, so you never leave the lot confused. If you'd rather skip driving entirely, choose a host who offers delivery and setup at your campground. Pro tip: pick a Class C motorhome or smaller travel trailer (under 25 feet) for your first trip, they handle a lot like an oversized van on Berwick's rolling terrain.
penndot.pa.gov/TravelInPA/Safety/Pages/default.aspxWhat happens if the RV breaks down during my trip?
You're not on your own. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance through the renter protection plan, so a flat tire on Interstate 80, a dead battery at Ricketts Glen, or a lockout at Bodnarosa Campground is one phone call away from help. Roadside will dispatch a service provider to your exact location, whether you're in downtown Berwick or deep in the Loyalsock State Forest. For mechanical issues, contact your host first (they know the rig best) and RVezy support second to coordinate next steps. Pro tip: snap a photo of your RV's VIN and the roadside number at pickup and save it to your phone so you can call from anywhere with no fumbling.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Berwick RV rental across state lines or into Canada?
Yes, an RV road trip from Berwick across state lines is welcome on RVezy, and you're perfectly positioned for it. New York's Finger Lakes are about 3 hours north, New Jersey shore points are 3-4 hours east, and Washington, D.C. is roughly 4 hours south, all within easy reach. Cross-border travel into Canada may be allowed on some rentals depending on the host and your protection coverage, so confirm directly with the owner before booking and review RVezy's insurance coverage validity page. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on any RVezy rental. Pro tip: if Niagara Falls is on your wishlist, message hosts upfront to confirm Canadian travel approval and budget for currency exchange at the border.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityHow much should I budget for fuel on an RV trip from Berwick?
Fuel is easy to plan for in Berwick because Pennsylvania has competitive pump prices and plenty of truck-friendly gas stations along Route 11, Interstate 80, and Interstate 81. Class C motorhomes typically get 8-12 MPG, Class A's around 6-10 MPG, and travel trailers add 2-4 MPG of drag to your tow vehicle. For a 200-mile round trip to Ricketts Glen and back, budget roughly $60-$90 in fuel for a typical Class C. Local insider tip: the Pilot Travel Center off I-80 Exit 236 in Mifflinville (5 miles from Berwick) is the easiest big-rig fill-up nearby with diesel lanes and high clearance. Filling up before heading into the Poconos saves money since prices climb toward the resorts.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Berwick?
Booking early pays off, especially for the best campgrounds near Berwick. Ricketts Glen State Park accepts reservations up to 11 months in advance through the Pennsylvania DCNR reservation system, and summer weekends genuinely sell out by March. Private campgrounds like Bodnarosa, Moyers Grove, and Knoebels Lake Glory open their books in winter and fill up by late spring for July-August stays. For shoulder-season trips in May or late September, you can often score a site 2-3 weeks out. Pro tip: if Ricketts Glen is full, set up basecamp at Moyers Grove or Whispering Pines and day-trip to the waterfalls, the drive is under 30 minutes and parking at the trailhead is free.
pennsylvaniastateparks.reserveamerica.com/What are driving conditions like around Berwick, PA?
Driving an RV in and around Berwick is very manageable. The town sits on the Susquehanna River with mostly flat downtown streets, and you'll spend most highway miles on Route 11 (a wide, RV-friendly corridor) or Interstate 80 nearby. The biggest challenge is the climb into the Pocono and Endless Mountains, where grades hit 6-8% on routes like PA-487 toward Ricketts Glen, so downshift early and use engine braking on descents. Winter brings snow and ice from December through March, so check PennDOT's 511PA road conditions before any cold-season trip. Local insider tip: avoid the narrow PA-93 shortcut over the mountain with anything over 28 feet, stick to Route 11 to Bloomsburg and head north on PA-487 instead.
511pa.com/What amenities can I expect at campgrounds near Berwick?
Campgrounds near Berwick offer a great mix of services to keep your trip smooth. Most private parks like Bodnarosa, Moyers Grove, and Knoebels Lake Glory have full hookups (water, 30/50-amp electric, and sewer), Wi-Fi, hot showers, laundry, and on-site dump stations. State park sites at Ricketts Glen typically offer electric hookups with shared water spigots and a central dump station near the contact station. Potable water fills are easy to find at most private parks, and propane is available at Bodnarosa and several Bloomsburg-area RV dealers. Pro tip: pack a 25-foot water hose and a sewer hose extension, a few Berwick-area sites have spread-out hookups, and that little bit of extra reach makes setup effortless.
dcnr.pa.gov/StateParks/Pages/Camping.aspxWhat's included inside a typical RV rental in Berwick?
Berwick-area RVs come fully equipped to make your trip comfortable from night one. Most listings include real beds (queen master plus convertible dinettes and bunks), a full kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave, and cookware, a bathroom with hot-water shower, climate control with air conditioning and furnace, seatbelts for all listed sleep counts, and house batteries to keep lights on between hookups. Many motorhomes also include a generator, outdoor speakers, and a TV. Wi-Fi is sometimes offered, but cellular hotspots are more reliable in the wooded ridges near Ricketts Glen. Pro tip: check each listing's amenities list and message the host before booking if you need specifics like a CPAP-friendly outlet or a coffee maker, hosts are usually happy to confirm.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Berwick%2C%20PennsylvaniaWhat add-ons and pickup options are available for Berwick RV rentals?
Berwick hosts offer a wide menu of add-ons to customize your trip. Common extras include linen and bedding packages, kitchen kits, outdoor chairs and tables, generators (if not built in), bike racks, and even kayak or stand-up paddleboard rentals for the Susquehanna River. Pickup typically happens at the host's home in or near Berwick, but many offer delivery to local campgrounds like Bodnarosa or Knoebels Lake Glory for a flat fee. Mileage policies usually fall between 100-200 miles per day included, with overage fees that vary by listing, and some hosts advertise unlimited mileage. Pro tip: bundle delivery, linens, and a generator at booking, hosts often discount the combo, and you'll arrive to a fully set-up rig.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Berwick%2C%20PennsylvaniaHow does payment and the security deposit work for a Berwick RV rental?
Payment is straightforward and secure on RVezy. You pay through the platform with a credit or debit card, never directly to the host, which keeps your booking protected. A refundable security deposit is held separately from your booking payment before pickup and released after the trip once the host confirms there's no damage or excessive cleaning needed. To avoid any deposit issues, do a thorough walk-around with the host at pickup, snap timestamped photos of any existing dings, and return the RV with fuel and tanks per the listing instructions. Pro tip: hosts appreciate a clean return, a quick sweep and trash-out before drop-off keeps your deposit refund moving fast.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksCan I rent an RV in Berwick during winter?
Yes, winter RV rentals in Berwick are available and can be a magical way to experience the snowy Endless Mountains. Many hosts keep four-season rigs on the platform with heated holding tanks, enclosed underbellies, and reliable propane furnaces, so you stay warm even when temperatures drop into the teens. Most winter campers use shore power at year-round parks like Bodnarosa or set up in driveways with hookups. Activities ramp up too: ice fishing at Lake Jean in Ricketts Glen, skiing at Montage Mountain (45 minutes east), and frozen-waterfall hikes along the Falls Trail. Pro tip: filter for RVs labeled four-season or message hosts to confirm tank heaters, then bring a heated water hose and you're set for a cozy winter adventure.
