Camping near Boiling Springs, Pennsylvania
Boiling Springs sits in Cumberland County's Cumberland Valley, roughly 20 miles southwest of Harrisburg and at the foot of South Mountain. The village is best known for spring-fed Children's Lake, the Appalachian Trail Conservancy Mid-Atlantic Regional Office, and Yellow Breeches Creek, a limestone stream regarded as one of the country's premier fly-fishing waters.
RV travelers use Boiling Springs as a base for a mix of state park land and private full-hookup parks. Pine Grove Furnace State Park lies about 15 miles southwest, within Michaux State Forest, and is the historic midpoint of the Appalachian Trail. Private options within easy driving distance include Deer Run Campgrounds, Western Village RV Park Inc, King's Campground, Walmar Manor Campground, and Mountain Creek Camp Ground.
Access is straightforward from Interstate 81 and Interstate 76 (the Pennsylvania Turnpike), which makes the area a practical stop for travelers routing through south-central Pennsylvania between Gettysburg, Hershey, and the Blue Ridge.
Things to do around Boiling Springs
Fishing drives much of the visitor traffic. The Yellow Breeches offers over 30 miles of open water, with a good mix of wild and stocked trout and plenty of fishing access. The creek's most popular section for anglers is a one-mile, catch-and-release stretch running from Boiling Springs downstream to the Allenberry Resort. Children's Lake is spring-fed and stocked with trout, and a section near the Appalachian Trail crossing is designated for young anglers during early trout season.
Hikers can pick up the Appalachian Trail directly in the village. Pine Grove Furnace State Park, surrounded by Michaux State Forest, sits at the historic midpoint of the roughly 2,190-mile Appalachian Trail. The park also holds the Appalachian Trail Museum, swimming at Fuller and Laurel lakes, and the Pole Steeple overlook.
Families use Children's Lake for stroller-friendly walks, paddling, and duck-feeding, with cafes and a fly shop within a short walk.

The RV season in this part of Pennsylvania is broadly late March through mid-December. At Pine Grove Furnace State Park, roughly seventy tent and trailer sites are available from late March to mid-December. Private parks near Boiling Springs generally follow a similar April-to-October pattern, with limited winter operations.
Spring brings the heaviest early-season demand from anglers. Opening day of trout season, historically in early April, draws many anglers to the area. Summer is peak family camping, with warm, humid days and frequent afternoon thunderstorms. Late August is notable for the White Fly hatch on the Yellow Breeches, which crowds the catch-and-release water.
Fall offers cooler nights, foliage across South Mountain, and lighter campground pressure. Winter is quiet: state park campgrounds close, snow and freezing rain are possible, and most private parks either winterize or restrict to a small number of hardy sites.

Sandy went above and beyond. Leading up to the rental dates she was in communication, making sure we were on the same page. I opted for delivery rather than pickup, and she made sure the rv was delivered early so we could fully enjoy the rental dates. We had a normal issue w the AC (the unit froze) but she was very communicative and helpful until the problem was solved (she suggested to turn it to fan in case the unit was frozen, and it quickly thawed). Always very sweet and courteous, always responsive. My four year old son loved the trailer, was very upset to understand that we had to give it back 😂. Thanks, Sandy!

Sandy went out of her way to make sure my family was well accommodated during our use of her camper!

Booking a campsite near Boiling Springs
Pennsylvania state parks, including Pine Grove Furnace, use a central reservation system. Campers can book online through the Pennsylvania State Parks and Forests Reservations website or by calling the reservation center at 888-PA-PARKS (888-727-2757), Monday through Saturday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Most campsites can be reserved up to 11 months in advance to noon of the day of arrival, and summer weekends fill early.
Private parks such as Deer Run Campgrounds, Western Village RV Park Inc, King's Campground, Walmar Manor Campground, and Mountain Creek Camp Ground take reservations directly by phone or website. Holiday weekends from Memorial Day through Labor Day should be booked several months out, especially for pull-through and full-hookup sites.
What to expect on the ground
State park camping at Pine Grove Furnace is modern but rustic by RV standards. Most sites offer electric service but no individual water hookups, a sanitary dump station is provided near the campground entrance, and modern restrooms with warm showers are on-site. Each campsite has a picnic table and fire ring, pets are permitted on designated sites for a fee, and a seasonal camp store is one quarter-mile from the campground.
Private parks in the surrounding valley generally offer full hookups, longer pull-throughs suited to larger Class A and fifth-wheel rigs, laundry, and Wi-Fi of varying quality. Terrain is rolling farm country with wooded ridges, so sites vary from open and sunny to shaded under mature hardwoods. Cell coverage is reliable in the valley and spotty to non-existent inside Michaux State Forest and at Pine Grove Furnace.

rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Boiling%20Springs%2C%20PennsylvaniaDo I need a special license to rent an RV in Boiling Springs?
Good news: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Pennsylvania for the vast majority of rigs on RVezy. Pennsylvania only requires a non-commercial Class A or B license for vehicles over 26,000 pounds Gross Vehicle Weight Rating, and nearly every campervan, Class C motorhome, and travel trailer on the platform falls well under that. You'll need to be 25 or older with a valid license, and we verify your identity through the booking process. Visiting from abroad? Bring an International Driving Permit along with your home license. Most first-timers are pleasantly surprised by how simple the requirements really are.

You choose your protection level at checkout, and each plan helps cover damage to the RV during your trip. If you get a flat on PA Route 174 or need a jump at Pine Grove Furnace State Park, one call gets help dispatched. This isn't traditional auto insurance, but it provides meaningful financial protection and live support before, during, and after your trip. First time renting an RV in Boiling Springs? Booking is low-risk. RVezy sets a standardized cancellation policy that applies to every reservation, including a grace period after you book during which you can cancel for a full refund. That means you can lock in your dates for a Yellow Breeches Creek fly-fishing weekend or a Carlisle Car Show trip with confidence. The refund amount depends on how far in advance you cancel. Because RVezy (not the host) manages the cancellation policy, you get consistent, fair treatment whichever rig you book. Pro tip: reserve early to secure the best rigs near Children's Lake, then finalize your plans knowing the policy is built in.

Children's Lake has a one-mile walking loop perfect for morning strolls with your pup. Most hosts charge a small pet fee (typically $25 to $75) to cover extra cleaning. Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm pet rules and ask about local off-leash spots like nearby Letort Spring Run trails.
pa.gov/agencies/dcnr/recreation/where-to-go/state-parks/find-a-park/pine-grove-furnace-state-park/stayCan the RV be delivered to my campground in Boiling Springs?
Yes, RV delivery in Boiling Springs is a popular option on RVezy, especially for first-timers. Many local hosts will drive the RV directly to Pine Grove Furnace State Park, Gifford Pinchot State Park, or your driveway in the Cumberland Valley, level it, hook up water and power, and walk you through every system before they leave. This is ideal if you're nervous about towing a trailer through Boiling Springs' narrow historic streets or backing into a tight site. Delivery fees are typically $2 to $4 per mile from the host's location. Pro tip: ask about a stationary setup package that includes a propane top-off and a generator demo so you can just show up and relax.

Boiling Springs has a true four-season climate, and the sweet spot for RV camping runs from late April through late October. Spring brings 50 to 70 degree days and trout stocking on Yellow Breeches Creek. Summer (June to August) averages 75 to 87 degrees, ideal for swimming at Fuller Lake. Mid-September to late October is the local insider pick: leaf-peeping along the Appalachian Trail near Center Point Knob with crisp 55 to 70 degree afternoons and fewer crowds. Winters dip to 20 to 40 degrees, but heated rigs are available year-round. Pro tip: target the second weekend of October for peak fall color in Michaux State Forest.
weather.gov/ctp/I've never rented an RV before. How does the pickup process work?
You're going to do great, and you won't be left to figure anything out alone. Every RVezy host provides a hands-on orientation at pickup that typically takes 45 to 90 minutes, walking you through propane, slide-outs, awnings, the generator, holding tanks, and the dump procedure. You can also message your host days before pickup with questions, and many Boiling Springs hosts share walkthrough videos in advance. Worried about driving? Choose a Class B campervan or small Class C, both of which handle like a large van on PA Route 174 and Interstate 81. Pro tip: take notes or short videos during your orientation so you can reference everything later from your campsite at Pine Grove Furnace.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/categories/360002255794-For-rentersWhat happens if I have a breakdown or issue during my trip?
Help is one call away, 24/7. Every RVezy booking includes round-the-clock roadside assistance, so whether you have a dead battery at Pine Grove Furnace State Park or a flat tire on Interstate 81 near Carlisle, dispatch can send a technician directly to you. For mechanical questions, your host is your first text (they know their rig inside-out), and RVezy support is available before, during, and after your trip by phone, chat, and email. The Cumberland Valley has a strong network of RV-friendly mechanics in Carlisle if a repair is needed. Pro tip: save the roadside number to your phone before pulling out of the host's driveway.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Boiling Springs RV rental on a multi-state road trip?
Yes, interstate travel within the United States is allowed with most RVezy rentals, making Boiling Springs an incredible launch pad. Popular routes include the Civil War Trail south through Gettysburg (30 miles) into Maryland and Virginia, the Appalachian Mountain loop through Shenandoah National Park (175 miles), and the Brandywine Valley to Philadelphia (130 miles east). Travel to Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals due to insurance restrictions. Cross-border trips to Canada may be allowed by some hosts, so confirm with yours before booking if that's your plan. Pro tip: the Pennsylvania Turnpike (Interstate 76) runs just 10 miles north of Boiling Springs and is the fastest route to Pittsburgh, Cleveland, or New York City.
nps.gov/shen/index.htmWhat kind of fuel mileage should I expect, and how do I budget for fuel?
Fuel is usually the second-biggest line item after the rental itself, but it's predictable. Class B campervans average 18 to 22 miles per gallon (MPG), Class C motorhomes get 10 to 14 MPG, and large Class A rigs come in around 7 to 10 MPG. Travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle. Pennsylvania gas prices typically run a bit above the national average (often $3.50 to $3.90 per gallon in the Carlisle area). For a 4-day, 400-mile loop from Boiling Springs to Gettysburg and back in a Class C, budget around $130 to $160 in fuel. Pro tip: fill up at the Pilot Travel Center off Interstate 81 Exit 52 in Carlisle for the best diesel prices.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Boiling Springs?
For the best campgrounds near Boiling Springs, the earlier the better, but you have options. Pennsylvania state parks like Pine Grove Furnace and Gifford Pinchot accept reservations up to 11 months ahead through the DCNR reservation system at pa.gov, and prime fall foliage weekends (late September to late October) book up months in advance. For summer weekends, aim for at least 6 to 8 weeks of lead time. Private campgrounds like Western Village RV Park and Deer Run typically have more last-minute availability. Pro tip: midweek arrivals (Sunday through Wednesday) are often wide open even in peak season, and Pine Grove Furnace's pet-friendly loop tends to sell out first.
pa.gov/agencies/dcnr/recreation/where-to-go/state-parks/find-a-park/pine-grove-furnace-state-park/stayWhat are the driving conditions like around Boiling Springs?
Driving around Boiling Springs is genuinely easy compared to most RV destinations. The town sits in the gentle Cumberland Valley between South Mountain and Blue Mountain at about 500 feet of elevation, so you won't face any white-knuckle climbs nearby. Interstate 81 and Interstate 76 (Pennsylvania Turnpike) are both within 10 miles for fast travel. Watch for tight turns on PA Route 174 through the historic village center, narrow shoulders on rural roads near Yellow Breeches Creek, and occasional deer crossings at dawn and dusk. Winter brings occasional snow from December to March. Pro tip: avoid downtown Carlisle during Carlisle Car Show weekends (April, July, October) when traffic gets heavy, and take Bernheisel Bridge Road as a quieter alternate.
penndot.pa.gov/TravelInPA/Pages/default.aspxWhat amenities will I find at local campgrounds near Boiling Springs?
You'll find solid amenities at most campgrounds in the Cumberland Valley. Pine Grove Furnace State Park offers electric hookups (no water/sewer at site), modern restrooms with warm showers, a sanitary dump station near the campground entrance, and a seasonal camp store one-quarter mile away. Gifford Pinchot State Park has electric sites with lakeside views and a swimming beach. Private parks like Western Village RV Park in Carlisle and Mountain Creek Campground offer full hookups (water, sewer, 30/50 amp electric), Wi-Fi, and laundry. Cell service is spotty inside Michaux State Forest, so download maps ahead. Pro tip: top off fresh water in Boiling Springs before heading into Pine Grove Furnace since most sites are electric-only.
pa.gov/agencies/dcnr/recreation/where-to-go/state-parks/find-a-park/pine-grove-furnace-state-park/stayWhat's included inside the RV itself?
Motorhome and campervan rentals in Boiling Springs on RVezy come fully equipped to live in from day one. Expect a real bed (queen or king in most Class C and Class A rigs), a kitchen with a stove, microwave, fridge, and freezer, an indoor bathroom with hot shower and toilet, air conditioning, a furnace for chilly Cumberland Valley nights, and seatbelted seating for your group. Most rigs include a TV, and many hosts add Wi-Fi hotspots, outdoor speakers, generators for boondocking, and starter kits with linens, dishes, and toilet chemicals. Pro tip: filter listings by the specific amenities you need (pet-friendly, generator, bike rack) to narrow down the perfect rig.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Boiling%20Springs%2C%20PennsylvaniaWhat add-ons and features can I request from my host?
Hosts in Boiling Springs offer genuinely useful add-ons that make trip planning easy. Common options include camping chairs and outdoor tables ($10 to $20 per trip), bedding and linen packages ($25 to $50), generators for off-grid stays in Michaux State Forest, bike racks for the Cumberland Valley Rail Trail, kayaks or stand-up paddleboards for Children's Lake, and propane fire pits. Pickup is usually at the host's home in the greater Carlisle and Boiling Springs area, with delivery available for an additional per-mile fee. Mileage policies vary, with 100 to 150 free miles per night being common. Pro tip: bundle delivery, setup, and a stocked-kitchen package to turn your first RV rental into a turnkey vacation.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Boiling%20Springs%2C%20PennsylvaniaHow does payment and the security deposit work?
Payment is simple and secure. You pay your full rental cost through the RVezy platform when you book (never directly to the host), which protects both sides. A separate refundable security deposit is held or pre-authorized before pickup, typically ranging from $500 to $1,500 depending on the rig. As long as you return the RV in the same condition (clean, fueled, tanks emptied per host instructions), the deposit is released back to you, usually within a few days of trip end. Pro tip: take time-stamped photos of the RV inside and out at pickup and drop-off. It's the single best way to avoid any deposit issues on your Boiling Springs RV trip.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksAre RVs available year-round in Boiling Springs, including winter?
Yes, winter RV rental in Boiling Springs is available, and some of the best Cumberland Valley experiences happen between November and March. Many RVezy hosts offer four-season rigs with heated holding tanks, propane furnaces, and shore-power capability so you stay warm when temps drop into the 20s and 30s Fahrenheit. Pine Grove Furnace State Park's campground closes for the winter, but several private parks stay open year-round with winter hookups. Picture quiet snowy hikes on the Appalachian Trail or fly-fishing the Yellow Breeches, a year-round trout stream. Pro tip: confirm with your host that the rig has been winterized for use (not storage) and ask about a heated water hose to prevent overnight freeze-ups.
