Campgrounds and RV parks near Browntown, PA

Browntown sits in Lackawanna County in northeastern Pennsylvania, within short drives of several state parks and private campgrounds that suit RV travelers. The surrounding landscape is the forested edge of the Endless Mountains region, with lakes, river gorges, and multi-use trails typical of the Poconos to the south. The closest public land with camping is Frances Slocum State Park, which consists of 1,035 acres in Luzerne County and centers on a horseshoe-shaped, 165-acre lake popular for boating and fishing. To the north, the 1,445-acre Lackawanna State Park sits ten miles north of Scranton, with 198-acre Lackawanna Lake surrounded by picnic areas and multi-use trails winding through forest, supporting boating, fishing, mountain biking, and swimming. For Pocono access, RV travelers can head south to Lehigh Gorge Campground, a private park with full-hookup sites near White Haven, or consider Highland Campgrounds as a base. Lehigh Gorge State Park itself has no in-park camping, so private campgrounds in the corridor are the practical choice for RVs.

Pennsylvania state park sites use a single centralized reservation system. Most campsites in Pennsylvania state parks can be reserved up to 11 months in advance to noon of the day of arrival. Online reservations can also be made by calling toll-free 888-PA-PARKS (888-727-2757), from 7:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M., Monday to Saturday. Organized group tent sites at both Frances Slocum and Lackawanna carry a different rule: reservations must be made 3 days ahead of arrival and can be made up to 11 months in advance. Campers without a reservation arriving after noon should check near the campground entrance for instructions on any first-come, first-served availability. Private campgrounds such as Lehigh Gorge Campground and Highland Campgrounds book directly through their own websites or phone lines and generally accept longer stays and full-hookup RVs outside the state-park calendar.
