The area places RV travelers within a short drive of Rothrock State Forest, Bald Eagle State Forest, and several small mountain lakes and trout streams. Lewistown, the county seat, is minutes away along US 322 and provides fuel, groceries, and hospital services for campers passing through.
Options within a reasonable drive include Waterside Campground and RV Park in the Lewistown area, Hartman Center Campground, Seven Mountains Campground near Spring Mills, the state-run campground at Greenwood Furnace State Park, and Hemlock Acres Camping Area near Penns Creek. The mix covers full-hookup private parks, a state park loop with mostly electric sites, and rustic wooded settings closer to fishing water.
The location works well as a base for exploring central Pennsylvania, with State College and Penn State roughly forty-five minutes to the northwest and the Amish community around Belleville just over the ridge.
Things to do near Burnham
Outdoor recreation drives most trips. Greenwood Furnace State Park covers 423 acres and includes a six-acre lake with swimming beach, trout fishing, hiking, and a restored 19th-century ironmaking historic district, and it borders the 80,000-acre Rothrock State Forest for longer hikes and mountain biking. Penns Creek, near Hemlock Acres Camping Area, is one of the state's best-known trout streams.
Seven Mountains Campground puts guests within reach of Poe Valley State Park, Bald Eagle State Park, and Penn State's arboretum. Waterside Campground and RV Park sits on the Juniata River and the historic Pennsylvania Canal, with a heated pool, pontoon canal rides, catch-and-release fishing, and themed weekends aimed at families.
Belleville hosts a large Wednesday Amish sale and market a short drive west, and State College adds college-town restaurants, museums, and Penn State football on fall Saturdays.

How to book

Sites can be booked up to 11 months in advance, with new dates released at noon Eastern time, and popular summer and fall weekends fill early. First-come, first-served sites are also available when open. The maximum stay is 14 nights between Memorial Day and Labor Day and 21 nights the rest of the year, with a 48-hour gap required between stays.
Private campgrounds handle their own bookings.
