Camping near Chestnut Hill, Pennsylvania
Chestnut Hill is an unincorporated community in Forks Township, Northampton County, sitting on the eastern edge of the Lehigh Valley just north of Easton and bordered on the east by the Delaware River, which forms the Pennsylvania-New Jersey line. The location puts RV travelers within reach of two distinct camping corridors: the Delaware River valley running north toward the Delaware Water Gap, and the wooded hills of upper Bucks County to the south.
Most private campgrounds in the area are family-run and cluster along river access points and rural roads off Route 611 and Route 32. Closer-in options include Mountainview Campground and Evergreen Lake Campground, while Ringing Rocks Family Campground and Colonial Woods Family Resort sit in Bucks County to the south. Driftstone on the Delaware occupies riverfront land north of Chestnut Hill near Mount Bethel.
The region blends river recreation, state park hiking, and small historic towns, making it a practical base for families who want short driving days between the campsite and the next activity.
Things to do near Chestnut Hill
The Delaware River is the primary draw. Tubing, kayaking, canoeing, and fishing are standard summer activities, with several liveries operating between Portland and the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area. Driftstone on the Delaware sits directly on the river and offers on-site launching and boat access for paddlers.
Inland, Ringing Rocks County Park is known for its boulder field and short waterfall hike, and it sits close to Ringing Rocks Family Campground. Delaware Canal State Park runs parallel to the river with a flat, family-friendly towpath for walking and biking.
Downtown Easton adds a rainy-day option with the Crayola Experience, the State Theatre, and the Easton Public Market. Colonial Woods Family Resort and other private parks in the area typically add pools, mini-golf, and scheduled weekend activities for kids.

- winter
December - February
37° / 23°F 80 mmCold with snow and ice; most private campgrounds closed.
The private camping season in this part of eastern Pennsylvania is short. Most parks open in mid-spring and close in mid-fall. Driftstone on the Delaware operates from mid-May to mid-October, and Ringing Rocks Family Campground runs from early April to late October. Winter RV camping options are limited, and travelers should confirm season dates before booking.
Summer is peak, with hot, humid days, frequent afternoon thunderstorms, and the highest demand for riverfront sites. Delaware River campgrounds enforce weekly minimums on riverbank sites through peak summer, and three-night minimums apply on many weekends from July through Labor Day. Booking eight to twelve weeks ahead is prudent for July and August weekends.
Spring brings variable weather and higher river flows from snowmelt and rain, which affects tubing safety. Fall is quieter, with cooler nights and foliage color through mid- to late October. Winter is cold with periodic snow and ice, and Lehigh Valley receives about 33 inches of snowfall in an average year, so most private campgrounds are closed.

Great weekend getaway!
Kami A. - Nov 2024
Great vehicle and friendly owners. This compact camper has a lot of creature comforts while allowing one to maneuver and park in regular parking lots. The van is really easy to drive and handles really nice. The beds were comfortable and IMO accommodate 2 adults (top bed) and 1 adult or 2 kids in the lower bed. We were able to use the bike rack, too, and that worked great for a road bike and mountain bike (I think 2 mountain bikes might not fit unless the handle bars were turned on 1 of them). We didn't use the, generator, heater, hot water, shower, sink, microwave or toilet so I can't comment on them but I wish we rented it longer so we could've taken advantage of all this van has to offer. We would absolutely rent again.

Great holiday weekend in Dalton's camper! He was an amazing host, and everything was as described. We had the camper delivered and picked up by Mike, who was also awesome! Thanks for a great weekend!
Stephanie H. - Sep 2026
Dalton's Jayco is the perfect option for a small family. There's plenty of sleeping options for the kids, and the tub is a great bonus for bath time. The camper is well maintained and everything was functional. Delivery and pick up to the site went smoothly. We're hoping it's available next year too!

How to book campgrounds in the area
Reservation systems vary by park. Some campgrounds, such as Ringing Rocks Family Campground, use online booking through Campspot. Others take reservations only by phone or in person: Driftstone on the Delaware, for instance, does not offer online booking and accepts bookings by phone or in person during posted office hours, with a one-night deposit required to hold the site.
Seasonal sites at Delaware River campgrounds often fill well in advance, and short-term riverbank sites at Driftstone require a minimum one-week stay from late June through Labor Day. For state park camping in the wider region, Pennsylvania State Parks use the state's central reservation system, which opens bookings up to eleven months ahead at noon Eastern time.
Call directly before arrival to confirm site length, hookup type, and any big-rig routing notes, since some river-road approaches are unsuitable for large motorhomes and trailers.
What to expect on the ground
Most private campgrounds near Chestnut Hill are mid-sized, family-owned parks with a mix of seasonal residents and short-stay guests. Expect water and electric hookups at most RV sites, with sewer hookups less common; several parks, including Driftstone on the Delaware, provide a dump station instead of on-site sewer. Cable television is available at some Delaware River parks.
Amenities typically include a pool, a camp store, a playground, and weekend activities such as hayrides, themed weekends, and organized games. Sites range from open and grassy to wooded and shaded, and pad length and levelness vary, so ask when booking a larger rig.
Road access is the main planning concern. Several river-road approaches include narrow bridges with weight limits and sharp turns; follow the campground's posted directions rather than default GPS routing when arriving with a trailer or motorhome.
