Camping near Cheyney University
Cheyney University sits in the rolling countryside of Chester County, Pennsylvania, roughly 25 miles west of Philadelphia and near West Chester, Downingtown, and the Brandywine Valley. RV travelers use the area as a base for day trips into Philadelphia, Valley Forge, Longwood Gardens, and Amish Country around Lancaster, while staying in a rural setting rather than an urban parking lot.
Most campgrounds in the area are privately owned RV parks along creeks and back roads. Closer options include Camp Country Center and the Philadelphia / West Chester KOA Holiday in Coatesville, which sits along the banks of the Brandywine River in a rural setting near many attractions. Brandywine Creek Campground and Birchview Farm Campground are also within Chester County. For travelers approaching from the south side of Philadelphia, Philadelphia South / Clarksboro KOA Holiday is across the river in New Jersey.
These parks skew toward family stays with full-hookup RV sites, pools, and weekend activity programming rather than backcountry camping.
Things to do near Cheyney University
The Brandywine Valley is the main draw. The region is known as America's Garden Capital, with the mansions and gardens of Longwood, Winterthur, Hagley, and Nemours all within a short drive. Valley Forge National Historical Park is about 20 miles northeast, and central Philadelphia is reachable by car or by SEPTA regional rail from Downingtown or Exton.
On the water, Marsh Creek State Park has boat rentals, fishing, and miles of hiking and biking trails. Brandywine Creek Campground borders Marsh Creek State Park, granting direct access to those trails and fishing spots, and canoe and kayak rentals are available at the Philadelphia / West Chester KOA Holiday's canoe landing, with river day trips through Northbrook Canoe Company.
Families traveling with kids often add Dutch Wonderland in Lancaster, Hershey, and the Philadelphia Zoo to the itinerary.

Brandywine Creek Campground operates seasonally from April 1 to November 1, and Birchview Farm Campground runs a mid-April to mid-October season.
Summer is peak season and the hottest, most humid stretch. Weekends around Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Labor Day sell out well in advance at the KOA properties and family parks. Spring and early fall bring cooler nights, lighter crowds, and easier last-minute booking.
Fall foliage in the Brandywine Valley typically peaks in late October. Winter travelers should plan on state park day-use only or look at year-round parks further afield, since most local private campgrounds are closed and Pennsylvania winters bring regular freezing temperatures and snow.

How to book campgrounds near Cheyney University
Private campgrounds in the area are reserved directly through their own websites, by phone, or through booking platforms such as Campspot and KOA.com. KOA Rewards members receive a discount at check-in, and the KOA Holiday properties allow saving sites to a cart before checkout, though sites saved in the shopping cart are not guaranteed and are sold on a first-come, first-served basis.
Check-in windows vary. At the Philadelphia / West Chester KOA Holiday, check-in for RV and tent sites is 2:00 PM and check-in for cabins is 3:00 PM. What to expect at Cheyney University campgrounds
Expect small to mid-sized private campgrounds with a mix of transient RV travelers and long-term seasonal residents. A large share of sites at parks like Brandywine Creek Campground and Birchview Farm Campground are held by seasonal tenants, with shorter-stay visitors concentrated in dedicated transient loops. Sites at the Philadelphia / West Chester KOA Holiday and Brandywine Creek Campground include full hookups with pull-throughs available, and the KOA accommodates rigs up to 90 feet.
Amenities typically include a pool open Memorial Day through Labor Day, a camp store, laundry, a playground, and weekend activities. Access roads through Chester County can be narrow, tree-lined, and winding, so allow extra time on approach and consider a daylight arrival with a larger rig. SEPTA rail from Downingtown into Philadelphia makes it practical to leave the RV parked and travel into the city for the day.
