Collingdale camping overview
Collingdale is a small borough in Delaware County, just southwest of Philadelphia and only a few minutes from Philadelphia International Airport. RV travelers use it as a launch point for Center City sightseeing, day trips across the Delaware River into South Jersey, and outings to state parks in southeastern Pennsylvania. The borough itself has no campgrounds, so RVers stage from parks across the river in Gloucester and Salem counties, or from Pennsylvania state parks to the north and west.
The closest full-service RV park is Philadelphia South / Clarksboro KOA Holiday, located across the river in Clarksboro, New Jersey, roughly 20 minutes from downtown Philadelphia. Other nearby options include Lake Kandle, Old Cedar Campground, Four Seasons Campgrounds, and Village Scene Park, all in South Jersey within about a 45-minute drive of Collingdale.
For a more traditional forested experience, French Creek State Park sits about 50 miles northwest of Philadelphia and offers a large campground with modern and full-hookup sites, making it the most common public-land alternative for RVers based in the Collingdale area.
Things to do near Collingdale
Center City Philadelphia is the main draw. Independence National Historical Park, the Liberty Bell, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, and Citizens Bank Park are all within a short drive or SEPTA ride from Collingdale. Families often pair a city day with the Philadelphia Zoo, the Franklin Institute, or the Please Touch Museum.
On the New Jersey side, campground guests frequently visit local wineries, the Cowtown Rodeo, and Bridgeport Speedway. Several South Jersey wineries sit between the Delaware Memorial Bridge and Commodore Barry Bridge, making an easy afternoon loop from any of the Gloucester County campgrounds.
For outdoor days, French Creek State Park has more than 35 miles of trails ranging from easy lakeside walks to challenging backcountry loops, with many trails also open to mountain biking, plus fishing and non-powered boating on Hopewell and Scotts Run lakes.

The Philadelphia area has a humid subtropical climate with four distinct seasons. Summers are hot and humid with regular afternoon thunderstorms, spring and fall are mild, and winters are cold with periodic snowfall. Late spring through early fall is the practical RV window, with the busiest weekends running Memorial Day through Labor Day.
Many private parks in the region operate on a seasonal calendar. Lake Kandle opens on the last Friday of April and closes on the first Sunday of October, and is closed during the off season. The Clarksboro KOA is open year-round, and the main campground at French Creek State Park is open from March through the first weekend in January, with cabins available all year.
Fall is often the sweet spot: cooler nights, fewer bugs, and foliage from mid-October into early November. Winter camping is limited to a small number of year-round parks and heated cabins, so RVers who need shoulder-season flexibility typically default to the KOA or French Creek.

How to book near Collingdale
For Pennsylvania state parks including French Creek, reservations run through the DCNR system on the Pennsylvania State Parks and Forests Reservations website, or by calling 888-PA-PARKS (888-727-2757), Monday through Saturday, 7:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. Most sites can be reserved up to 11 months in advance and must be booked at least a few days ahead of arrival, so summer weekends and fall foliage dates should be locked in several months out.
Private campgrounds each have their own systems. The Clarksboro KOA books through koa.com or by phone. Lake Kandle operates as a private campground and swim club accessible only by membership or a rented campsite, with strong demand for seasonal sites and very limited nightly availability. Old Cedar, Four Seasons, and Village Scene take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone.
What to expect near Collingdale
Most parks in this area are family-oriented private campgrounds rather than remote wilderness sites. Expect paved or gravel pads, 30 and 50 amp electric service, water and sewer hookups at full-hookup sites, WiFi of varying quality, pools, playgrounds, and organized weekend activities. The Clarksboro KOA runs typical KOA amenities including a Jumping Pillow, playground, catch-and-release pond, and an off-leash dog park.
Policies vary by property. Lake Kandle is strictly for RV, motorhome, and pop-up camping, with no tents and no pets permitted. The KOA and other private parks in the area are more traditional and accept a wider mix of rigs and leashed pets.
Traffic around Philadelphia is heavy on weekday mornings and Friday afternoons, so plan arrivals and city day trips accordingly. Big-rig drivers should confirm site length and low-clearance routes before rolling into the borough itself.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Collingdale, PA
How much does an RV rental in Collingdale cost, and how can I save?
An RV rental in Collingdale typically runs $75 to $175 per night for travel trailers, $125 to $225 for Class C motorhomes, and $200 to $400 for larger Class A coaches, with hosts in the Philadelphia metro area setting their own nightly rates. To find a cheap RV rental in Collingdale, book midweek (Sunday through Thursday), travel in April, May, or late September when Delaware County weather is still gorgeous but demand drops after Labor Day, and look for travel trailers if a host can deliver since you skip towing. Pro tip: filter for Instant Book listings near the 19023 ZIP code and message hosts about weekly discounts for stays of five nights or more.
visitpa.com/things-to-do/outdoor-recreation/campingDo I need a special license to rent an RV in Collingdale, PA?
Good news: a regular Pennsylvania Class C driver's license (or your equivalent home-state or international license) is all you need for almost every RV rental in Collingdale. PennDOT only requires a non-commercial Class B license if your motorhome's gross vehicle weight rating tops 26,000 pounds, and virtually every Class B campervan, Class C motorhome, and travel trailer on RVezy falls well under that threshold. You'll need to be 25 or older to book, and RVezy verifies your ID right inside the app during checkout, so there's no extra paperwork. Visiting from overseas? Grab an International Driving Permit from your home auto club before you fly into PHL and you're good to go.
pa.gov/agencies/dmv/driver-services/licenses-and-photo-ids/license-types-restrictionsWhat protection comes with my Collingdale RV rental?
Every RV rental in Collingdale, PA booked through RVezy automatically includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can pull out of the driveway with real peace of mind. The protection plan covers most damage to the vehicle and provides significant financial protection for renters (this is coverage, not traditional insurance). During checkout you will choose from multiple protection plan tiers, picking the level of coverage that fits your trip, your budget, and your comfort level. Hosts do not pick the tier, you do. Pro tip: if you are a first-time renter taking the RV through Philadelphia traffic on I-95, opt for a higher-tier plan for a few extra dollars a night and just enjoy the drive.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat if I need to cancel my Collingdale RV trip?
You are not locked in. RVezy sets the cancellation policy for every booking (hosts do not), and it includes a grace period after booking where you can cancel for a full refund, plus tiered refunds depending on how far in advance you cancel. If a host cancels on you, RVezy refunds you in full or offers travel credit so your Collingdale RV trip can stay on track. Because the policy depends on timing and circumstances, the exact refund details are shown at checkout and in the RVezy Help Center. Pro tip: book early to lock in the rig you want for a Phillies weekend or fall foliage trip, knowing you have room to adjust if plans change.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in Collingdale?
Absolutely, a pet-friendly RV rental in Collingdale is easy to find. Just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy and you will see motorhomes and trailers within a short drive of Delaware County where dogs (and sometimes cats) are welcome. Many hosts ask for a small pet fee or a refundable deposit, which is shown right on the listing. Once you are on the road, Ridley Creek State Park in Newtown Square and French Creek State Park near Elverson both allow leashed dogs on trails, and Pennsylvania state park campgrounds have designated pet-friendly sites. Pro tip: pack a tie-out and a collapsible bowl, and stop at Smedley Park just a few minutes from Collingdale for a pre-trip walk.
dcnr.pa.gov/StateParks/Pages/Pets.aspxCan the RV be delivered to me in Collingdale?
Yes, RV delivery in Collingdale is one of the most popular options on RVezy, especially for first-timers who would rather skip driving a 28-foot rig through Delaware County's tight streets. Many local hosts will deliver and set up your motorhome or travel trailer right at your campsite, driveway, or event location, often within a 30 to 100 mile radius for a per-mile fee shown on the listing. They will level the rig, hook up water and power, walk you through every system, and come back to pick it up when you are done. Pro tip: filter by Delivery on RVezy and message the host with your campground name (like French Creek State Park or Philadelphia/West Chester KOA) for an exact quote.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Collingdale%2C%20PennsylvaniaHow does mileage work, and how far can I realistically drive from Collingdale?
Most hosts in the Philadelphia area include 100 to 150 free miles per night, with extra miles priced around $0.30 to $0.45 each, and some listings offer RV rental with unlimited mileage, perfect for a longer road trip. From Collingdale, you can reach Cape May, NJ in about 90 miles, Lancaster's Amish Country in 65 miles, the Pocono Mountains in roughly 110 miles, Washington, D.C. in 140 miles, and Shenandoah National Park in around 220 miles, all comfortable single-day drives. Pro tip: if you are planning a multi-state loop, filter for unlimited-mileage listings or buy a mileage package upfront, which is almost always cheaper than paying overages on return.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Collingdale%2C%20PennsylvaniaWhere are the best campgrounds near Collingdale for my RV trip?
You have great options within an easy drive of Collingdale. French Creek State Park in Elverson (about 45 miles northwest) offers RV-friendly sites with electric hookups and access to Hopewell Lake for swimming and kayaking. Philadelphia/West Chester KOA Holiday in Coatesville (about 35 miles) provides full-hookup pull-throughs, a pool, and family-friendly amenities. Ridley Creek State Park is a nearby day-use favorite, and Fort Washington State Park has a campground accessible for tent and small RV camping near Collingdale. Pro tip: French Creek's full-hookup sites book out fastest, so reserve through the Pennsylvania State Parks reservation system as early as possible, especially for summer weekends and fall foliage dates.
dcnr.pa.gov/StateParks/FindAPark/FrenchCreekStatePark/Pages/default.aspxWhen is the best time of year for an RV trip from Collingdale?
Late April through mid-June and September through late October are the sweet spots for a Collingdale RV trip. Spring brings 60 to 75 degree days, blooming dogwoods at Longwood Gardens, and lighter campground crowds. Summer (July to August) is warm and humid with highs in the mid-80s and frequent afternoon thunderstorms, great for lake swimming at French Creek but plan for shore power and strong AC. Fall is the local insider favorite, with crisp 50 to 70 degree days and brilliant foliage along the Brandywine Valley and Pocono foothills. Winter rentals are available too for cozy heated trips, just confirm the rig has a winterized water system. Pro tip: book your fall foliage week by mid-July.
weather.gov/phi/I have never rented an RV before, what should I expect?
First time renting an RV? You are in great hands. Every RVezy host gives you a hands-on walkthrough at pickup (or at delivery, if you choose that option), covering propane, water, slide-outs, the generator, dumping, and how to hook up at a campground. You can message your host before booking with any question, no matter how basic, and 24/7 roadside assistance is included with your protection plan on every Collingdale RV rental. For your first trip, pick a Class C motorhome or a small travel trailer, both are easy to drive and park. Pro tip: book two nights at French Creek State Park to combine full amenities with ranger help just down the road.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat happens if I have a breakdown or problem on the road?
You are never stranded. Every RV rental in Collingdale, PA includes 24/7 roadside assistance through your RVezy protection plan, covering flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, towing, and mechanical issues anywhere in the US and Canada. One phone call gets help dispatched to your location, whether you are on I-476, the Pennsylvania Turnpike, or a Pocono backroad. You can also message your host directly through the app for quick help with quirks like how a specific awning retracts, and the RVezy support team is available before, during, and after your trip. Pro tip: save the roadside number to your phone before you leave Collingdale, and snap a photo of the RV's VIN and plate for faster service.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Collingdale RV rental across state lines or into Canada?
Yes, your Collingdale RV rental is built for a road trip. You are free to cross into New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, New York, Virginia, and beyond, no extra paperwork required, which makes a Jersey Shore run or a Shenandoah loop totally doable. Cross-border travel into Canada may be allowed depending on the host and your protection plan, so message the host before booking to confirm and discuss your route (Niagara Falls is a popular one from Philly, about 380 miles). Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because insurance coverage does not extend there. Pro tip: a Collingdale-to-Acadia National Park road trip is about 530 miles and one of the most scenic Northeast routes.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat kind of fuel mileage should I budget for, and what about gas prices?
Plan on 8 to 10 mpg for a Class A motorhome, 10 to 14 mpg for a Class C, 15 to 20 mpg for a Class B campervan, and 12 to 16 mpg for your tow vehicle pulling a travel trailer. Pennsylvania gas prices typically run a bit above the national average (currently around $3.40 to $3.70 per gallon in the Philadelphia metro), and diesel is roughly $0.30 more. For a 300-mile weekend loop from Collingdale to Lancaster County and back in a Class C, budget about $90 to $110 in fuel. Pro tip: fill up in Delaware on your way south (no sales tax on gas and often $0.20 cheaper per gallon) before crossing back into PA.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground for my Collingdale RV trip?
For Pennsylvania state parks like French Creek, Ridley Creek, and Fort Washington, you can reserve sites up to 11 months in advance through the official Pennsylvania State Parks reservation system, and that is exactly what you should do for summer weekends and fall foliage dates, which sell out fast. Private parks like Philadelphia/West Chester KOA usually book 2 to 4 months out for peak season. For midweek or shoulder-season trips, two to three weeks ahead is often plenty. Pro tip: set a calendar reminder for the date 11 months before Memorial Day weekend to grab a French Creek full-hookup site, then build your Collingdale RV trip around it.
pennsylvaniastateparks.reserveamerica.com/What are the driving conditions like around Collingdale?
Collingdale sits in dense Delaware County just southwest of Philadelphia, so you'll want to plan your route to avoid the worst of I-95, I-476 (the Blue Route), and the Schuylkill Expressway during weekday rush hours (roughly 7 to 9 a.m. and 4 to 6:30 p.m.). Once you're past the metro, roads open up nicely: US-1 toward Chadds Ford and US-30 west into Lancaster County are smooth, scenic, and RV-friendly. Watch for low bridges in older Philly neighborhoods (many are under 12 feet) and tight turns in historic towns like Media. Pro tip: choose a host who offers RV delivery in Collingdale if city driving makes you nervous, you'll skip the urban gauntlet entirely.
penndot.pa.gov/TravelInPA/Pages/default.aspxWhat amenities will I find at campgrounds near Collingdale?
Campgrounds in the Philadelphia region are well equipped for RV camping near Collingdale. French Creek State Park's Loop C offers full hookups (water, electric, sewer), with Loops B and D providing electric-only and a centralized dump station and potable water fill near the campground entrance. Philadelphia/West Chester KOA has 30/50-amp full hookups, a pool, laundry, Wi-Fi, and a camp store. State park bathhouses include flush toilets and hot showers in the warmer months. Fresh water fills are usually free at your site or at the dump station. Pro tip: if your rig doesn't have a full sewer hookup at your site, save 10 minutes by emptying tanks at the French Creek dump station on your way out, not on arrival.
pa.gov/agencies/dcnr/recreation/where-to-go/state-parks/find-a-park/french-creek-state-parkWhat's actually inside a typical RV rental in Collingdale?
Most motorhome and campervan rentals in Collingdale come fully equipped to live comfortably: a real bed (or two), a kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave, sink, and cookware, a bathroom with toilet and shower, dinette seating with seatbelts for travel, air conditioning, furnace heat, and a TV. Larger Class A and Class C motorhomes often add an onboard generator, outdoor speakers, and a power awning. Wi-Fi is sometimes included via a host-provided hotspot, but Verizon and AT&T coverage is strong throughout Delaware County and most of southeastern PA. Each listing shows exactly what's included and how many people can sleep and ride safely. Pro tip: confirm seatbelt count matches your group size before booking, especially for a family RV trip Collingdale weekend.
nhtsa.gov/road-safety/recreational-vehicle-safetyWhat add-ons and pickup logistics should I know about?
Most Collingdale hosts offer handy add-ons during checkout: linens and towel packages ($25 to $75), camping kits with chairs and a grill ($30 to $60), generator use ($3 to $5 per hour for Class A), bike racks, kayak racks, and even pre-stocked propane tanks. Pickup is usually at the host's home in or near Collingdale between 1 and 4 p.m., with return by 11 a.m. (your host sets the exact windows on the listing). Many hosts also offer RV delivery in Collingdale for a per-mile fee. Pro tip: book the linen package on your first trip so you can show up with just a duffel bag, then bring your own gear next time once you know what you actually use.
pa.gov/agencies/dcnr/recreation/what-to-do/stay-overnight/rv-and-tent-campsitesHow does payment and the security deposit work?
Payment is simple and secure: RVezy charges your credit or debit card during booking, with the schedule shown clearly at checkout. A refundable security deposit, separate from your booking payment, is pre-authorized on your card before pickup (not actually charged) and released back to you after the host inspects the RV on return. To avoid issues, take date-stamped photos of the interior and exterior at pickup and return, fill the fuel and propane to the levels noted on your agreement, and dump the tanks before returning (unless your host says otherwise). Pro tip: use a credit card with a high limit so the deposit hold does not crowd your vacation spending.
